thats cool, why don't you draw a self-portrait to show you're back in the game again?

I'd love to have some traditional art in this, just scan it or take a picture and resize it on your computer.
also is this a portrait from photo or from real life using mirror ?
It's from two photo's actually. I find it much easier to use a photo rather than a mirror cause you don't have to hold still.

In, you really are allowed to post as many as you like (well, unless you really start going crazy), especially if they are so different from each other like yours are.

I'm sorry dude, this is not in. I'm not saying you traced it, but I get that vibe of it like you didn;t really understand what you were drawing (why/where the darks and lights go). Considering this was one of your first times drawing in flash you really didnt do a terrible job, just keep practicing k? and try again some weeks from now when you have improved, or in another medium that you are more familiar with?
Wrapping it up: great stuff from everyone guys, glad everyone is excited about this!

It's pretty simple, but I like it, It's IN!
Other poeple can consider this about the simplest acceptable.

I'm sorry but that's not in. Too simple and generic.

Good question; you can do full body as well as only face or anything in between, or even faceless (nsfw link).
Hi, my name is J-qb.
That's right, I'm hosting a self-portrait collab. Submit your self-portraits to this thread.
RULES
+ Deadline: August 29th
+ Art has to be 400px wide by 500px tall,
+ Please submit a .png to the dump or art portal
+ A self-portrait is a piece of art that represents it's maker.
+ For the sake of this collab im gonna apply this definition quite leniently:
- Abstrahised paintings are just as acceptable as realistic or cartoonish ones
- Portraits of your online persona and stuff are acceptable.
+ Please don't sign your work, in the final collab your name will be shown alongside your work.
NOW GET DRAWING:
This might seem like a mean thing to say, but I think this drawing is unsalvagable.
The very basics (underlying facial structures, anatomy of the hand) are absent. I suggest you start anew by sketching out the head and location and size of eyes ears mouth nose etc. (see reference pic below).
Once you have that down you can start adding details and hair. Hair can be hard to draw, but using a reference can really help you see how hair is supposed to look (i.e. not all plucky).
Hands are difficult to draw but there is one big advantage to drawing hands: you always have your reference around. Look at your own hand, where are the wrinkles, where are the joints, what is a natural pose et cetera.
If the basic structure is bad, all the coloring and detail in the world isnt going to make it a good drawing, so don't be afraid to spend a lot of time sketching, finding out what looks good before your continue to coloring.

At 7/7/11 02:55 AM, BenKNG wrote: Thanks guys, i appreciate you trying to help. I just saw it at my local art store, and i have never seen rough toothed paper before, but i read that it gives a great look with charcoal.
Yeah, tooth is very important when working with charcoal; the problem is that you are using charcoal like it was an ordinary pencil. Charcoal can give you really cool results really quick when you know how to use it.
poeple gave me some usefull tips in here; in short:
MATERIALS: (these are the very basics you need)
paper with tooth (no need to buy anything really expensive yet. You will occasionally see pads with various kinds of paper in them; you can get one of those to get a feel of what works for you)
Charcoal (vine for smaller stuff & block for large deep areas & charcoal pencil for details. For starters you should be fine working with only vine charcoal)
there can be quite some difference in hardness of charcoal, again: experiment to see what you like
Kneaded eraser (for erasing duh!)
Shammy/tissue/feather (for blending stuff)
TECHNIQUE:
An easy and quick technique I like(d) to use is to start by making the entire paper a middle shade of grey. From there you can add darks and lights (using your eraser).
Poeple advised me to use an easel, cause the excess charcoal dust will just fall off your canvas instead of smudging et cetera. If you have acces to one I suggest you try it.
Use a reference: Charcoal is great for shading, but the human eye/brain isn`t really used to paying attention to shades as much as shapes.

The A-Bot picture was about 60% finished. I'll post what I have anyway.
I once spilled coffee on my tablet, and it stopped working. It regained full functionality once it had dried though.... plus now it smells slightly of coffee!
Really cool stuff, reminds me a bit of giacometti. It'd be cool if you could post the pics in this thread instead of just linking to them; and I'd love some higher resolution pics.

The signature in the bottom right says, I think, L.Parker. I've search for this dude on google and has returned only one possible result that had anything to do with what I was looking for. Though I'm pretty sure it's acrylic since the matter at which it blends. And it's measures at roughly 100cm x 60cm.
Could be Ian Parker?
So guys, any ideas?
You could have a professional appraiser have a look at it, although that might be pricey. Don't know if there is really anything else anyone here can do without looking at it. At least take a picture of it and post it here.

I really think that beer is overrated, it's all about the spirits and whiskeys. I just have a better time with a triple Jack and Coke then a pint of Boddingtons nowadays.
so... the guy that mixes whiskey thinks beer is overrated? I think you are underrating whiskey.
Besides, there is quite a difference between the beers they serve in england and those they serve in holland..
How does it work there you can buy a pint but if you ask for a shot they throw you out?
basically, except that they don't tend to serve in pints here. You can get beer and wine and some premixed stuff. More importantly you can get in bars and stuff once you are 16, once you are in getting stronger booze shouldnt be that much of a problem.
similarly; my elbow is at the same height as my belly button. Stuff like that can really help you get the basics down. You can apply the same technique to facial structures except you use some sort of measuring tool; i.e your thumbs width. i.e. my eyes are two thumbs wide and two thumbs apart. my nose is two thumbs wide, my mouth is four thumbs wide etc....

What helps me when I'm trying to figure out anatomy stuff is to reenact the pose myself. So; since your character is standing, stand in a similar pose yourself and see how far your arms reach... for me; my wrists reach to halfway down my thigh and my finger tips are at 1/3 or 1/4 to my knee.

Thats stupid. People didn't put in extra effort knowing that 32 would go through, they did so knowing that two thirds of the competitors would go through. It's not just the bad artists that dropped out.
