I don't know why nobody else has mentioned this but I don't see how this makes any sense... you are the buyer, you should just state a fixed amount or a maximum; a minimum is no good especially if it's that low.
Ugh I was a bit late commenting to that one eh?....

The original ending involved him being a mangled corpse at the bottom with a trampoline off to the side, and a small child with ice cream being scarred at the situation, but the teacher did not approve.
This looks really cool, well executed; but it doesn't read at all to me. It's very hard to understand what's going on, I don't think I would have figured it out without the description of the trampoline and stuff. Also: the scan/picture seems a bit fuzzy, making the small text hard to read.

I like this idea; but you should prolly make the important text a bit bigger as well as colored so that it pops even more. Besides that there is still quite some empty space at the sides; maybe you could spice things up a bit by moving the character to the left and moving the speach bubble down a bit, maybe make it a double cloud with the last sentence (entrance fee) in a second bubble... see pic.

That's cool, I recognized him before looking at the references, so that's a good thing. I like the newspaper background on the shaded pencil one! What you did though, is make the same drawing 4 times with different techniques/materials, which to me seems different from how you described the assignment. As you mentioned yourself it's more of an abstraction than a caricature, That's cool though; I'm not a big fan of caricatures.

adding on to what kinsei and ashman said:
f5 is the shortcut to bring up the brush settings
make sure you edit the brush settings while having the eraser selected (e). Photoshop sees the eraser as a negative brush; so you can basically make it behave anyway you could have your brush behave.
also: I don't think the sun should bloom so much....

There is of course a sort of middle ground that takes the best of both where the transitions are smooth like in the left one but the contrast is still there. I had to teach myself to not want to oversmoothen everything, and it's still something I sometimes struggle with. Oftentimes showing brushstrokes actually works better than smoothing everything.

I'd say a fair amount of the amazing work is done in photoshop or corel painter; GIMP is a good free alternative for those programs, and I'm sure most of these artists could make the same stuff in gimp instead of corel painter.
How long it takes varies a lot. With experience and skill comes speed, but it also depends on the level of detail in a drawing and a bit on "luck". Sometimes I can work on a drawing for 4 hours and it still looks like shit, whereas other times I can get the same result in 15 minutes. I'd say 3-10 hours (of actual work) is prolly the usual range.

I dunno if the picture you took is from an angle or is stretched, but if it's not the face looks too elongated.
I suggest you get some reference pictures of clouds (or look out your window) and study what clouds actually look like. They arer sometimes a bit fluffy, but generally not as much as you drew them... I'm looking at some clouds while I type this, and whiles there are some soft edges, they definitely stand out from the sky.
I've never found clouds easy to draw either, but getting yourself a reference will probably help.
Glad I could be part of the winning game, even if my own art didn't win anything!

I didn't realize that you dd the shading with dithering, that's great.
You could prolly make it three if you dithered the sky as the dark blue and pale orange... maybe gradient it to make it a sunset
If this is gonna be a space invaders collab I'm willing to code it
torrent bra sounds so cool...

I like this idea better than the other one, furthermore I like the right one better than the left one. The colors in both are quite muted though, I think you could make them a bit more saturated.

400 wide, 500 high. If you just add empty space above him I will not accept it, either reconfigure the arm/hand or draw the body.

I used flockprint, which allows you to use any color you want as well as gradients and stuff, however solid areas of color arent really solid (see pic); I was really impressed by the quality. I must have worn and washed it a couple dozen times now, and flock prints sometimes tend to let loose or break, but this one hasnt.
also, cant they then sell your design?
I dont think they can, not sure though. If you make a shop for yourself, you can set the price for your shirts. Spreadshirt will then take a fixed amount of that (regardless of the prize) for manufacturing and shipping etc.
I'm not entirely sure though, you'd have to check.
and finally: im working on a self portrait for your collab friend.
Awesome!

I got a shirt printed viaSpreadshirt; good quality print, decent size. If you set up a shop and then sell your shirt to yourself you can get it cheaper than if you just order it.

I'm pretty sure that opinions expressed by liljim back then don't really reflect the general opinion. During the robot day broadcast tom and mindchamber were actually applauding how the art community always cranks out so much stuff for ng-days.

Coming out really well, most of the shading you have in place seems allright but it could be strengthened a bit. The nose appears to be coming along very well, but the mouth needs some work... My experience with (especially male) mouths is to not give them too much definition; they tend to kind of blend in with the skin.
