I never did make any bowls or anything like that myself, but I know it must be hard to get them interesting/good looking. Most of the bowls I see are either terribly plain, or became ugly in an attempt to make them beautifull...
You did a good job in finding a balance. Its also nice to see how they are all different, yet they are a clear set.

are you using references for these anatomy scetches?
I think you should....
One way I used to practice anatomy (not a lot though) is to reference skeletons, and then add the flesh/muscle skin to it yourself... this helped me a lot.

not saying im a master myself... I dont draw full bodied humans that much

So, anyone know what's going on here?

I dont know corel painter, but I see a little check box in your image that says "preserve transparancy"... I think that might do the trick

Hmm, Getting back from a two day absence really helps you see the mess this place has become...
It might not be the popular thing to do, but I agree with Cap`n ben on this one...
Sure you can talk about something else then art once in a while, but dont have three full pages of nonsense (almost all of it) in one day. Make a funny remark, poeple laugh (behind their computers, whithout making a post about how they laughed), end of story.

Im not going to browse back through three pages to quote the posts I will address

As for the replying to ignorant threads, jonny kind of touched on my vision on that, but I`ll state it here too. You CAN NOT SEE from how he started one thread wether or not someone will be a good addition to the art forum, either now or in the future. In general poeple come to the art portal looking for a cool art-focused community where they can get some feedback and stuff. I think we should welcome those poeple with open arms.
That means, helping them along! So, never post "read the rules", but post a link to where they can find them and tell them that we like poeple to start new threads with a piece of their own original art. thank them for their interest suggest a place they can visit to get an answer for their question.
I think if you just post "READ THE RULZ!!" a lot of poeple will say Fckit, I dont want to belong to this community. If you explain to them what they have done wrong they will feel sorry and try extra hard to fit in.

As for the whats with the anime/manga shit conversation:
Obviously that is an appealing "style" to a large group of youngsters... and I will admit that I have traced my share of DBZ in my day. Rather than ignoring them or telling them anime is not art. answer their question and as an addition remark that you dont think it smart to focus on learning one single style, that you think its better to keep an open view. And after all, you dont go around bashing CypressDahlia because he does anime right? What it comes down to in the end is that poeple can choose what they want to draw, whether you like it or not. And I think that most poeple can not hear from someones description of a drawing whether or not they will like it.

As for the Collab suggestion thing;
That sort of thing is really cluttering this thread. If you want to host a collab think of an idea, pm some poeple, or hit them up over msn to ask if they would like it, and start it. Discussing what would or would not make good art collabs is as I said cluttering this thread (IMO).
I actually thought we had a thread for art collab suggestions, but it turned out to be for art contests..
Maybe there should be such a thread for collabs? I dont know, but I certainly dont think it should be in here. (at least not that elaborate).

As for BMK being sick,
GET WELL SOO KRAIG! you are being sincerely missed.

I was wondering why he didnt comment on my portrait of him....

I think that wraps it up, long post... I hope I didnt bore you to bits

I`d like to add that although you may not actually learn anything from those art classes, they can make you more open to it...
My skills didnt really improve during the highschool art classes I had, but It did make more clear to me that that was an opportunity.
I had nowhere near the skills I have now back then, but If it wasnt for those classes, I might very well have always been doodling in sidelines and stuff without making more of it.

a) It's all individual; only you know your influences and creativity, not a supervisor. They can only push you.

Meaning they can also push you in a certain direction... I think that could be the only difference between schooled and unschooled artists...
Of course this depends on your teachers, because whereas they can push you in a certain direction, they can also push you to explore different things/widen your horizon.

But as with any education in our current information age, I think if you would not go to an art school you could still acces the resources on the interwebs... you can get critiques from poeple here on the art forum, or on deviantart or conceptart or any other community... If youre motivated enough, whether or not you went to art school should really matter.

I`m self taught, pick up some stuff from tutorials, but my experience is that I will not pick up anything usefull from a tutorial unless I was on the brink of finding that out myself... They dont really seem to have that much influence on my skills... and I like drawing without a tutorial way better. you really get that sense of acheivement when you figure something out.
