From what I can gather, the reviews are to be deleted then the ban is lifted. This can only be done by an administrator currently. I think Wade handles most of that. Review mods do the banning however.

Just to update, I went into the cable company office and modernized the meaning of "raising bloody hell" and had a technician come out yesterday and completely go thru everything. After lunch he returned to check and see if the connection was stable. The stream has been flawless as snice and while he was here I was able to type out a complete set up and record it to documents and burn it to cd in case I decide to upgrade my computers again soon.

There are 2 computers on my network; one desktop which came with XP service pack 1 and I downloaded service pack2 at the first of this year for said desktop.
There is also a laptop bought this year with service pack 2 already installed from factory.
Both machines came with ethernet cards onboard. The ethernet boards are both broadcom 10/100 adapters. No firmware has been installed and no updated drivers have become available from update pages for either network adapter. For either machine. The disconnect issue got so bad just now I had to undo the router and go directly from my desktop to the modem. At least I seem to be staying online for the moment.
I looked up the DOS commands you gave and without the whole network being running I don't think I'll get the required information. I get a physical addy for the network card in the formatt you mentioned however. I'm pretty sure I have a network configuration problem just not sure where.
The network configuration wizard for XP hasn't been helpful either.
And I tried your AIM name on your profile just now James and you aren't on.
While we're discussing this subject of router's does James or Denvish {or anyone I am desperate} know anything about the 'for home use', linksys fast ethernet BEFSR41 router?
I keep having nasty connectivity issues where periods of lag occur and my 3meg per second dowload speed reminds me of 28K dial-up.
This requires a complete reboot of modem router and pcs. This problem occurs at least daily and sometimes several times daily. Sometimes signal is lost completely and and requires complete reboot as well.
After loading the installation disk that came with the router, the disk could not detect my internet connection even though I was looking at pages on the internet and trouble shooting pages from linksys at the time.
For install I had to resort to the old stand by of turning off power to everything and after connecting proper cables I powered up in order of modem, router and lastly pc's. This has worked always, but the aforementioned problems arose after this set up.
My last home set up was with a cheap router that worked well for about a year before qutting completely one day. Which lead me to this linksys router.
I have tried phone techs thru the cable company which have offered no help, and linksys help and tech pages offer nothing I haven't already tried. E-mails to linksys have so far been unanswered but I retain hope on that end.
Good luck over there Pandora_Tranquil. And good luck with recording in the future. The high bandwidth version of Wilted Dreams really rocks over at garageband.

Those are good quotes Recon. Most Native American cultures believed talking to the great spirit directly was not possible so, they communicated with him via the animal spirits. The animal life taught the Native Americans a great many things. Hunting and gathering as animals instictively know what berries and roots are good to eat, and which ones are posionous and, even which herbs offer medicine.
The coyote is credited with many stories. One books quotes the coyote as having as many tales about himself as there are stars in the sky.
Some lore credits him with the creation of Multnomah Falls; the second highest year-round waterfall in the nation. The water of the Falls drops 620 feet from its origin on Larch Mountain. Other sources credit the raven with that creation. The coyote was also credited with fighting monsters in some myths. He was credited with killing the Thunderbird, "the killer of people". So the story goes, it was done with much help from "The Great Chief" or "Great Spirit". The coyote fasted for 10 days prior to the fight.
Lots of good stories about all the animals from different myths.
And a big congrats about your 50,000 B/P's. Thats some feat. Seems like a couple weeks ago {or so} you were at 33,000. Thats fast.
I've never heard it put that way actually. Alot of Asian stories start with "year of the tiger" or "year of the dog" and so forth, so its possible. People who live in Asia have the benefit of hearing myths as they are passed down. Its possible their more modern versions say "when the tiger smoked" I would be curious as to what that really means. We have a lot of Asian people at work. I think I'll ask them. It would be an interesting story. :)
I have been looking for the rulers of the "3 heavens" in Taosim {Chinese religion} but other than some books on the subject the net is a little bare on the subject.
San-qing is the name of the 3 heavens.
Or, "The three pure ones", the name of the three Taoist heavens and the three deities inhabiting them. The first of these heavens is Yu-qing, the Heaven of Jade Purity, and is inhabited by Yuan-shi tian-zong. According to some sources, this first and highest heaven is also ruled by Yu-huang. The second heaven is called Shang-qing, the Heaven of Great Purity, and is reserved for Ling-bao tian-zong. The third heaven is Tai-qing, the Heaven of the Highest Purity. It is ruled by Tao-de tian-zong.
I found this tib-bit about Tao-de tian-zong who is the ruler of the 3rd heaven. The highest heaven and purest of the 3.
Tao-de tian-zong is "The Heavenly Venerable of the Tao and the Te". He is the ruler of the third heaven, called, Tai-qing, the Heaven of the Highest Purity. He reveals the Taoist teachings contained in the writing guarded by the Heavenly Venerable of the Magic Jewel (Ling-bao tian-zong). He will assume a great variety of forms to bring the people of the "world of dust" closer to the teachings of the Tao. Forms assumed will be animals quite often.
Ling-bao tian-zong is "The Heavenly Venerable of the Magic Jewel", ruler of the second Taoist heaven Shang-qing. He is sometimes called Dao-Jun, Lord of the Tao, and Tian-shang dao-jun, Supreme Master of the Tao. He is considered to be the guardian of magical writings (Ling-bao jing). He has existed since the beginning of the world and it is his task to calculate time, allocate it to the various epochs, and to regulate yin and yan. Ling-bao tian-zong is one of the so-called San-qing.
I especially like reading about yin and yan and ying and yang. The equate of the universe. Also sometimes referred to as negative and positive or good vs. bad, and if you're into physics, action vs. reaction. :)
Yuan-shi tian-zong seems to be the most important of the 3 rulers. His name means "The Celestial Venerable of the Primordial Beginning", one of the highest deities of religious Taoism. He is one of the pure ones, the so-called San-qing and resides in the Heaven of Jade Purity. It is believed that he came to being at the beginning of the universe as a result of the merging of pure breaths. He then created Heaven and Earth. Originally, he headed the administration of Heaven but -- like a wise ruler -- entrusted that task to his assistant Yu-huang. The importance of Yu-huang later came to exceed that of Yuan-shi tian-zong. At the beginning of each age or aeon he transmits the Ling-pao ching, the Scriptures of the Magic Jewel, to subordinate deities. Those in turn instruct mankind in the teachings of the Tao. Yuan-shi tian-zong is also believed to rescue souls caught in the various hells and sets them free.
Yuan-shi tian-zong is said to be without beginning and the most supreme of all beings, in fact, representative of the principle of all being. From him all things arose. He is eternal, limitless, and invisible. Yuan-shi tian-zong is also known as Tian-bao-jun, Lord of the Heavenly Jewel.
I also have some really good Korean myths, passed on by a girl from Korea who I work with. If anyone is interested. :)

Many a manga and anime artists have borrowed heavily from the different myths over the years. Demons and vampires seem to be the recurring theme however. Then again, cyborgs keep popping up in anime as well.
For a little more about Norse myths;
Frigg
t_The wife of Odin, Frigg is one of the foremost goddesses of Norse mythology. She is the patron of marriage and motherhood, and the goddess of love and fertility. In that aspect she shows many similarities with Freya, of whom she possibly is a different form. North American mythology creeps in here somewhat and I think that branch of the myths combined Frigg and Freya perhaps.
She has a reputation of knowing every person's destiny, but never unveils it. As the mother of Balder, she tried to prevent his death by extracting oaths from every object in nature, but neglected the mistletoe. It was such a fragile thing she thought it could not hurt anything. It was a dart of mistletoe that killed Baldor
I have never read that Frigg was sworn not to reveal a person's or a God's destiny but I have always assumed she was sworn to secrecy about this knowledge. However, what woman could resist helping her son if possible? Also, how did the God's know of the coming Ragnarok? And how did they know who would die and by who's hand? I think Frigg told some counts of different destinys. When it was concerned with someone she liked or loved.
Her hall in Asgard is Fensalir ("water halls"). Frigg's messenger is Gna, who rides through the sky on the horse Hofvarpnir.
And as for the "God's being players"... In some myths Frigg was rumored to have had love affairs with Odin's brothers Ve and Vili. It would appear however, the goddesses did not want the repretation of a slut with the other goddesses so things like this were kept hush, hush. :P
_After ragnarok, Asgard will be reborn. Only some of the gods will come back however. Or so it is told in the stories I read. I wonder who will be the new God of Asgard? I also wonder, why the Gods turn on each other? I can't remember reading about that one either.
Doing a ner search on ragnarok will get you 3 million results on Ragnarok the online game :P

Actually the story appeared in a old west type comic. Strange place for Thor to show up isn't it? Yes, in most instances, Loki and Thor were great friends. However, Loki was always playing tricks. In some stories, Loki got quite mean with his prankings as time went on. Which is how he supposedly led to the death of Baldor. Other stories cite Loki as just jealous of Baldor, which caused Loki to want him dead.
I remember another story where Loki gave humans honey {the socalled nectar of the Gods} and his winged sandals were taken away as punishment. That one I also never heard of. But it seems for whichever trouble Loki Causes he finds a way to twist it into something better. Perhaps due to the God's numerous punishments.
I would have to check on it truely. I don't even remember now where I read or heard it. I just remember it somehow. But yes, Loki seemed to help mankind somehow in his pranks, which seemed to be aimed towards the Gods. Perhaps his form of retribution for the Gods punishment. Afterall, everyone should be able to take a joke right? :) Whenever I hear a variation on a particular myth, I evaluate it for the story content. Whether it fits into the character's style or not and how good it reads. If it is a good version, I will pass it on. I really can't cite anything as set in stone. However, literature from certain areas that haven't been to tainted in translations I tend to stick to.
Husband to Sigyn, who stayed loyal to him, even when the gods punished him for the death of Balder.Actually I don't believe they never found out that it was Loki who did so, not atleast until the Lokisenna, I think. That's when Loki attened Odin's dinner party and got so drunk that he insulted all the Gods and then got tied to those boulders along with the poisin snake overhead.
I've read of that a couple times. Some poems dating from the Norse empire seem to indicate the former however. Either way, its a good read. The drunken dinner party fits Loki's style a bit more. More about this later.
Different sources cite Loki's wife Sigyn as mother to the 3 monsters and some cite Loki's mistress Angrboda, as their mother.Heh, yeah I've read Loki was quite the player.
I think all the Gods were players. In every mythology, the Gods had mistresses and lovers, and were busy seducing everybody under the heavens. The Goddesses seemed to suffer from fits of jealousy as well. And it seemed every one of them liked to get drunk.
:perhaps we should have themes for each week. Like Asian Myths one week, russian myths the next, and so on and so on. And everyone should at least post some information or a myth based on the current weeks theme.
Sounds like a plan. Where shall we go in time this week?
And for a bit about Baldor: {From; Encyclopedie van de Mythologie. Dr. A. van Reeth}
Baldar had been dreaming about his death, so Frigg, {Baldor's mother} extracted an oath from every creature, object and force in nature (snakes, metals, diseases, poisons, fire, etc.) that they would never harm Balder. All agreed that none of their kind would ever hurt or assist in hurting Balder. Thinking him invincible, the gods enjoyed themselves thereafter by using Balder as a target for knife-throwing and archery.
The malicious trickster, Loki, was jealous of Balder. {I have yet to read WHY he ws jealous} Loki changed his appearance and asked Frigg if there was absolutely nothing that could harm the god of light. Frigg, suspecting nothing, answered that there was just one thing: a small tree in the west that was called mistletoe. She had thought it was too small to ask for an oath. Loki immediately left for the west and returned with the mistletoe. He tricked Balder's blind twin brother Hod into throwing a mistletoe fig (dart) at Balder. Not knowing what he did, Hod threw the fig, guided by Loki's aim. Pierced through the heart, Balder fell dead.
While the gods were lamenting Balder's death, Odin sent his other son Hermod to Hel, the goddess of death, to plead for Balder's return. Hel agreed to send Balder back to the land of the living on one condition: everything in the world, dead or alive, must weep for him. And everything wept, except for Loki, who had disguised himself as the witch Thokk. And so Balder had to remain in the underworld.
The other Gods took the dead Baldor, dressed him in crimson cloth, and placed him on a funeral pyre aboard his ship Ringhorn, which passed for the largest in the world. Beside him they lay the body of his wife Nanna, who had died of a broken heart. Balder's horse and his treasures were also placed on the ship. The pyre was set on fire and the ship was sent to sea by the giantess Hyrrokin.
Loki did not escape punishment for his crime and Hod was put to death by Vali, son of Odin and Rind. Vali had been born for just that purpose. After the final conflict (Ragnarok), when a new world arises from its ashes, both Balder and Hod will be reborn.
In some versions it was Baldor's mother Frigg who had those disturbing dreams about his death.

I would enjoy any other Celtic Myths you can throw at me, but also I wouldn't mind any Loki myths. Though I'm not sure if I have read them all, al ready or not. Perhaps some Siegfried myths. Any would do.
I had a comic book from childhood where Loki stole Thor's hammer and Loki threw it to Earth. The Gods punished Thor, for letting Loki steal the hammer by reducing him to human size and forced Thor to search for the hammer. He eventually found his hammer being used by a man to make rain in exchange for money in drought stricken areas. Thor regained his hammer and the evil man perished.
I remember another story where Loki gave humans honey {the socalled nectar of the Gods} and his winged sandals were taken away as punishment.
Loki seems to appear in North American mythology as well as Norse.
Loki is the God of trickery and deceit in Norse mythology. He is a son of the giant Farbauti and the giantess Laufey. Loki's mistress is the giantess Angrboda, with whom he fathered three monsters, the gigantic wolf Fenrir, the Midgard Serpent Jormungand, and the goddess of the death, Hel. Husband to Sigyn, who stayed loyal to him, even when the gods punished him for the death of Balder. He was chained to three large boulders; one under his shoulders, one under his loins and one under his knees. A poisonous snake was placed above his head. The dripping venom that lands on him is caught by Sigyn in a bowl. But every now and then, when the bowl is filled to the brim, she has to leave him to empty it. Then the poison that falls on Loki's face and makes him twist in pain, causing earthquakes. On the day of Ragnarok, Loki's chains will break and he will lead the giants into battle against the gods.
Different sources cite Loki's wife Sigyn as mother to the 3 monsters and some cite Loki's mistress Angrboda, as their mother. Very little is written about Sigyn.
Still more stories can be found where Loki is cited as the God of Fire who resides in the house of Aesir. The house of Aesir is in Asgard, the highest of 9 levels of the Norse universe. Lokii is always being described as crafty and mischeivious however.

At 6/12/05 04:47 AM, -Cyber_Dragon- wrote: Ah Ivan, reading a good Banshee tale would be quite a treat. I would love any Celtic story you can throw at me, please do.
I remember watching a movie several years ago about a man who found a Leprechaun and was granted 3 wishes by the leprechaun. The man wisely mulled over his desecions as to what to wish for and eventually the leprechaun and man became great friends.
The man's daughter became very sick and when the Death Banshee came to take her the man used his last wish to take her place. The leprechaun got into the death wagon with the man and as they rode down the lane the leprechaun took the man's place.
It really was a good story with a pleasent mix of Irish and Scott myth mixed together.
I think in true Irish lore the Banshee is a fairy woman who wails to warn true Welsh families of impending danger or death.
Leprechauns, according to legend, are very small sprites who sometimes live in farmhouses or wine cellars. They are known to aid humans and perform small labors for them. Sometimes they ask humans for supplies and furniture, for which in return they give objects which bring luck and fortune. Leprechauns are called fairy cobblers, for they make shoes for elves (but always one shoe, never a pair). They are seen quite often by humans and are described as merry little fellows gaily dressed in old-fashioned clothes; green, with a red cap, leather apron, and buckled shoes.
When they finish their daily tasks, leprechauns like to organize wild feast, during which time they are referred to as cluricauns. These (often drunk) cluricauns can then be seen riding in moonlight on the back of a dog or a sheep. According to popular belief, a leprechaun possesses a treasure (usually a pot of gold) which a human may obtain if he succeeds in capturing one, which is extremely difficult. Even after capture, a person may not take his eyes off of him for an instant, for then he will vanish. Leprechauns are mainly found in Irish folklore. I really haven't found any historical references to the 3 wishes thing but have read plenty of stories and seen several movies where this was to have happened
.
In Irish folklore, the Banshee, or, (woman of the hills) is a spirit or fairy who foretell a death by wailing. She visits a household and by wailing she warns them that a member of their family is about to die. When a Banshee is caught, she is obliged to tell the name of the doomed. This concept is vouched for by the fact that the Morrigan, in a poem from the 8th century, is described as washing spoils and entrails. It was believed in County Clare that Richard the Clare, the Norman leader of the 12th century, had met a horrible beldame, washing armor and rich robes "until the red gore churned in her hands", who warned him of the destruction of his host.
The Banshee has long streaming hair and is dressed in a gray cloak over a green dress. Her eyes are fiery red from the constant weeping. When multiple Banshees wail together, it will herald the death of someone very great or holy. The Scottish version of the Banshee is the Bean Nighe. Also known as Bean Sidhe in Irish tales. Aiobhill is the banshee of the Dalcassians of North Munster, and Cliodna is the banshee of the MacCarthys and other families of South Munster.
Funk & Wagnalls Standard Dictionary of Folklore is a very rich source of folklore. and myths.

What topic of myths should we go for first? Vampires? Werewolfs? Greek myth is the best known. One of the few mythology tales to survive in tact over the centuries.
Another area I like is the Celtic folklore from Ireland and Scotland. Banshees and such.
I guess I would be Agenor
It seems he has not been taken.
The king of Tyros and a son of Poseidon. He is the father of Europa and Cadmus. When Europa was abducted by Zeus, he sent his sons in search of her.
Not much is found about Agenor in writings. More about Poseidon really.
Here is a cool Greek legend: Typhon
Typhon is the offspring of Gaia and Tartarus. His mate is Echidna and both were so fearful that when the gods saw them they changed into animals and fled in terror. Typhon's hundred, horrible heads touched the stars, venom dripped from his evil eyes, and lava and red-hot stones poured from his gaping mouths. Hissing like a hundred snakes and roaring like a hundred lions, he tore up whole mountains and threw them at the gods. Zeus soon regained his courage and turned, and when the other gods saw him taking his stand, they came back to help him fight the monster. A terrible battle raged, and hardly a living creature was left on Earth. But Zeus was fated to win, and as Typhon tore up huge Mount Aetna to hurl at the gods, Zeus struck it with a hundred well-aimed thunderbolts and the mountain fell back, pinning Typhon underneath. There the monster lies to this very day, belching fire, lava and smoke through the top of the mountain.
Echidna, his hideous mate, escaped destruction. She cowered in a cave, protecting Typhon's offspring, and Zeus let them live as a challenge to future heroes. Echidna and Typhon's children are the Nemean Lion, Cerberus, Ladon, the Chimera, the Sphinx, and the Hydra.
Its a great story as to why the volcano spews. :)
Id like to come by and post and would be happy to contribute to myths. Its a speciality of mine.
I like reading about mythical beasts and such mainly. I also love reading about different diety beliefs around the world.
I got around to reviewing Denvish's new game. He usually responds to the constructive reviews. I just wanted to review it tho. Its really a nice improvement from the last game. A worthwhile effort for a sequel.

Oh btw, who has got the book "Bulfinch's Mythology"? I haven't read it that much, because it's english, but I still find it very interesting.
Its interesting to see Samurai legend creeping into anime. I feel the anime is better if it sticks to the real Samurai codes. Its also interesting to note all countries had a code for their elite guard.
Samurai/Boushi was almost like a religion to those guys.
I am also glad to see people interested in myths. Always a favorite subject of mine. :)
