well I finally got 5000 saves. It was a long hard climb.

Well, I got my reviews up to 209 over the weekend but I just can't seem to bring myself to get review 210. I went thru the responding authors list reviewing to get responses up but only one author responded. Then again, the quality of my reviews has fallen off abit. Whats a guy to do?

Yeah, I'm pushing 90 b/p points as we speak and most of it was garbage. Somebody out there keeps submitting a video of a guy wacking off but I've personally blown the whistle on it 3 times today. I wonder how many whistle points that is.

I caught 4 of those things, the first was gone b4 I got to whistle it but I got 3 whistled myself. In fact, thanx Recon for helping me whistle it. It is good to know we were teammates on that one. Garbage, pure "T" shit it was. And ya, I got over 100 blams in about 6 hours crusing NG over the weekend and only 10 saves. Too much work around the house this weekend and helping out the neighbors wth there new store. And ya, I wonder how many whistle points that is myself.

Haha yes, I was looking at that a few hours ago, actually... and at the time it was working out at a rate of one sign-up per minute! But ofcourse this was between 8:50PM and 9:40PM in America, so I'm guessing that rate steadily falls and rises throughout the day.

I dunno M-A-R-C-U-S. I have visited that page at different times of the day during the past year, it usually works out to about 50 sign-ups per hour, per day, every day. For a long time I even kept a record on that stuff. I just find it unusual considering there are only 900,705 registered users and if every year is like that past year, thats 438,000 sign-ups a year. I guess I think too much.

I may be close Ivan but protection points aren't the easiest things to come by these days. I fully expected my blam points to hit 40k before my saves hit 20k. Still... for every two submissions I blam I save one. Hey check out the profile comment I left you on Retrogade. Topic: The Native American Thunderbird.

I agree on the protect points. After 11,700 blams I still have only 4200 saves. They are scarce those protects. A 3 to 1 blam to protect ratio for me :(

What hurts is one movie died with a score of 1.58 and the other 1.55 *sigh*

I was trying for 200 reviews this weekend. Dunno if I'll make it or not. As far as the response rate. I am about to give up on it. I haven't even gotten to 35% yet. I am sticking to new flash however to review.
As far as the discussion about what to put in a review, I think optimization is most important. Not everyone has a broadband connection and no one wants to load a 5 meg web page that is going to be over in 10 seconds. *For example* 'Nim's Winter Tale' is a 5.6 meg file, but, it is 8 minutes long and is worth the wait. Not only are the graphics professional but the movie tells a complete story. On the other hand, today's daily feature {01/15/2006}
'Enviormental' is 3.5 megs and is over in under a minute. The graphics are good but something in the file needs to be optimized. The file needs to be smaller. So, IOWs, its things like that I try to point out. Also lack of a scripted story and things like that. Also, I read over other reviews if possible. I figure there is no need to reinterate something 15 other people have already mentioned.
Also, as of late, I have made my reviews shorter and as much to the point as possible. Most authors don't even bother to read the longer reviews altho they do like pointing out details.
And lets not forget what happened to TC {Tiger Chick} when those guys posted a flash about her lengthy reviews. {I think someone posted about that back in this thread somewhere}
I've seen our guys in the office work for 6 weeks just to be told by the owner "naw, its all wrong start over". Thats a lot of work just to start from scratch again because, "the boss didn't like it". I try to get answers from our boss as to what he wants and what general direction he wants to go just to let our staff down a little easier. And so they don't get frustrated doing a lot of work and all for nothing.
As far as voting, oh man, it goes with the mood. A lot of stuff I like gets blammed, and a lot of stuff I think is mediocre winds up in the top 50. For review scores, if its something drawn, art is a skill and a gift so I am tolerate on that issue. Style is as individual as an author so they should develop what they are comfortable with. Violence I normally rate as it is. Interactivity, for a movie I like to see a preloader with status bar, easter eggs, and or a warp, the movie to stop at the end with a replay button and buttons to check credits and such. Without those elements I will usually vote low. For games, I vote interactivity on control response, and amount of controls. I can't cope with the complicated games with lots of controls but reviewing I will give them a 9 or 10 if they all work and respond well. For sound, if its optimized well and a respectable file size with still being able to hear it, I vote 10. If its a 4 meg MP3 on a 5 second loop of animation I vote 0. The overall score I have been more tolerate on lately. As I said earlier, I am reviewing new flashes only now and if the movie is good , and I think it has a shot at an award, {and deserving} I will usually vote 10. When reviewing a flash where an author wants advice and tips I will vote accordingly.
Bear in mind, this is just my opinion and how I do it. Its not a guideline. But I do enjoy the good disscusion.
