THAT'S NOT TRUE! There are others who also BLAM small movies without watching and that HURTS the movie score. You are penalizing others for your illogical thinking.
:But there's no way you can say that the majority of low K movies are quality productions. The evidence clearly points to the contrary.
So what's your point? Have you heard about gold miners? They have to go through a lot of rocks to find a small amount of gold. If they use your thinking they'd look at every place as just "rocks".
p.s. you haven't replied to my previeous post on page 3 yet.

What if the submission is just a preloader? Like my movie at http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view.php?id=80492 that I submitted recently? Do you vote zero on that as well? (The movie size is 1Meg)
Why did I use a preloader? Mainly, because if you use what they call assets, e.g. sound clips, in your movie Flash puts it in the first frame. This can create a large first frame loading size. When the movie starts loading nothing shows up for 30 seconds or even longer for an average dial-up user. Therefore to prevent this from happening I used a preloader. Would you prefer to stare at a white blank screen for 30 or more seconds? Any comments?

Oh yeah? I haven't met you. How smart can you be? According to your reasoning, I could say that you are the biggest !^#%@ in the world. I'm not saying you are but I based it on your reasoning.
If you Blam ANY movie without watching, you deserve to be punished. What if the movie is a preloader?
Think about it.

Yes, that's sad. Also, the amount of grief and wasted time it caused for people - especially with a dial-up.
When that movie was bumped out, the Daily Placements don't reflect the actual Top 5 position
1. OK Vampire Hunter INA 3: Daily Feature - 02/02/2003
2. NOT OK Tribute to Getter Robo: Daily 2nd Place - 02/03/2003 AND Daily 3rd Place - 02/02/2003
3. NOT OK NIN - Underneath It All: [Nothing]
4. NOT OK The only Shrapnel: Daily 3rd Place - 02/03/2003
5. NOT OK Emerald Tokyo Dressup: [Nothing]
Thanks, Tom.
I'm sure the authors would appretiate it.

Hi Tom,
There is a submission called: "Jet Flash Radio" by DingleberryClock at http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view.php?id=81104
It seems like a hoax since many people complain that it doesn't run yet DingleberryClock says it's not. It didn't load for me either. As of now it has a score of: 3.72 Maybe it's just a big clock thing...
Can you look into it?
Thanks,

Possibly, there're less games because it's easier to create a movie than a scripting a game.
I'm working on a Sniper game right now. You can check out the demo here: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view.php?id=78114
As for today's submissions: Squirrel Talk was ok but AMC's random sillyness was hilarious! LOL. That's my opinion :)
There has been many interesting points raised so far. I just take the good reviews and ignore the bad. People have different taste and interests and no movie or game can satisfy everybody. But it doesn't feel good when your movie gets a low score but there are no bad reviews to tell you why. Oh well...
As for the scoring system: Can games and movies really be compared with each other? Probably not, but it doesn't seem easy to separate them under the current score system.
An idea: Since there are usually more movie than game submissions, the Daily Top 5 could be divided up: e.g. Top 4 movies and 1 game. The proportion could be based on scores and number of total game submissions per day. Any thoughts?

I agree. I'd like to have the tank vector based. Although, that depends on Tom whether he wants to see the full NG logo in the preloader or allow anyone to somewhat modify it. Of course, people can modify it by themselves. Is that ok with you Tom, if the NG logo is somewhat modified (as long as it is obvious that it is the NG logo)?
Other: the preloader works fine now. Thanks Tom.

A preloader is a short movie that displays while the main movie is downloading. e.g. used to display the amount of movie loaded as a progress bar or percentage. When the movie is loaded, it can display a Play button.
I didn't see that there're 2 #5's. The numbering is ok now.

all you do is paste the movie clip into your first frame, everything else works from there, you dont copy frames, but movie clips.
You're right. I didn't read Tom's post carefully. I'm also used to having help files (or readme files)separately from the software/program but in this case everything is contained in one nice package :)

(I'm using Flash version 5.)
Overall the preloader looks good. I tried it and it seems to work - almost. There are a couple of things that I would change:
1) LoadingBar.gotoAndStop(PercentLoaded) - this didn't work for me. I.e. during loading, the loading bar size didn't change. I made the Loading bar into a movieclip and used setProperty (LoadingBar.bar, _xscale, PercentLoaded)
2) I'd use PercentLoaded = _root.getBytesLoaded() / _root.getBytesTotal() * 100 instead of PercentLoaded = _root._framesloaded / _root._totalframes * 100 since some frames usually contain more bytes than others. e.g. if there are 2 frames in a movie where frame 1 has 1 byte and frame 2 has 9 bytes then after loading frame 1, the bar would show that the movie is 50% loaded. But if the bar is based on bytes then it would show 10% only.
3) Maybe have the description message as a separate text file and have the .fla file contain one frame only. After reading your comments on NG, when I opened the .fla file, I expected to copy all the frames into my movie's first frame - which is not the case.
Hope that helps,
If you have any questions, let me know.

Hi general_plague,
Seems like you are new to NewGrounds. Go to the Portal Page. http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/index.html
There, you'll find movies listed in 4 categories. Look at "50 Most Recent" category. These are the most recent submissions. To get the points you want, select movies that do not have current score yet. These movies have a grey background or if you move your mouse over the movie title a box shows up and the current score'll be a question mark. Hope this helps,

Is Josh's Gunner a STOLEN GAME?
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view.php?id=79469
According to thabearrocks, it is.
His review is:
After reading some of the other reviews, I decided to look a little more into this. The link in the game sends you to a site called TellTarget. It says that over 1 million people have played this game, so it's obviously NOT NEW. Also, they are located in France - you are from Sydney. I know that web pages, etc can be worked on from all over the world, but your listed website is weaselcircus. This is a good game, but it is obviously not yours, and should be removed.
There is one situation in which someone could gain a lot of points. Someone has made many movies before but hasn't posted any of them on NG before. Then they visit NG and start submitting the movies. (illwillpress's current 'Neurotically Yours' movies are a good example). I'd say that such a person would deserve the points but to be fair with people who don't make flash movies, the total monthly point can be limited (100?).
That way Flash makers can't get "ahead" fast.
Ok. So what is the purpose of experience points? In my opinion, experince points give you the "power" to influence the score of a movie. The more movie you watch, the more experience you have in evaluating submissions. If you make a great movie that becomes Daily Feature, then you deserve the extra experience points because you demonstrated that you know what it takes to make an outstanding movie. Also, if you make movies, you know the tricks and how much effort it takes to make a movie from experience.
~30 exp points seems reasonable.

It's hard to see the good movies without coming to the Portal frequently (other than the daily top 5). Hmmm.

Maybe not complete removal but a definite new purpose/mission for the blam and protection points.
FrogBagClock seems to abuse the system. The original post title says: GREAT PORNO (as of 12:46amEST) but on the movie page (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view.php?id=79104) the title is: The Void II and the current movie is a Tricky the Clown movie.
Why did he do it? To make the original movie survive in order for him to post a Tricky movie. Even he admitted it (under mutedtempest's review):
:FrogBagClock's Response:
:I NEEDED IT TO SURVIVE NOW IT'S REPLACES WITH TRICKY!!! :D
Are people allowed to do that? I hope not.
Today's movies are not the best somehow. Hmmm, I wonder why.

Interesting idea. I was also think along the line of many movies not being watched much other then their date of submission.
I did a post on the General BBS but didn't get much attention. It has a couple of suggestions:
'(The following is a Flash author's point of view)
A couple of month ago when a movie was submitted, it used to stay on the 50 Most recently submitted list for about a day. When the BLAM and PROTECTION points were introduced, movies seemed to stay there for a 1 to 2 days. Recently, after the issue of people voting 0 consistently movies are up on the list for 1/2 to 1 day. This means less exposure to an author on average.
Suggestions:
1) The 50 most recent submission list could be extended to 60 or 70 or more
2) The daily top 5 could become daily top 10.
3) New submissions that have a score of 2.50 to 3.00 could be also highlighted with a different color.'
What do you think Tom?
