I could be wrong though.

It was a matter of time before it happened. Besides the child pornography, Crebb has also posted a death threat against Wade. So yeah, now the FBI is investigating.

DD gone too far.

By the way, EyeLovePoozy posted Crebb's IP addresses in both threads, though I don't know if that was serious.

And I don't know why the FBI would use "CP", it's weird, maybe to make it sound less important? I don't know...

I realise that the rules are important if you just want to enjoy your time here like you should, but I think looking around and learning about the place is important too. I think regulars should steadily drop the typical attitude when seeing a post by a new user, a post that is perfectly fine and discussing a perfectly acceptable topic. In an extreme case, I think it would be better for some regulars and mods to be less "hilarious" and "badass" when it comes to new users. Again, I'm not suggesting you let all new users get away with murder, but I'm saying that we're intelligent enough not to be overly hateful with them. Maybe I'm being a little optimistic... users that blatantly break the rules should be banned for it, but a lot of people aren't that bad. Eh, I'm just this little inexperienced kid I suppose.

So you're saying you're more of a lurker. That's OK, lurking the forums before posting is something that every new person should do, and there's even a rule that says "lurk first, post second". A good think to do is to lurk the forum and read the threads even if you know that you won't post on them. That way you'll be able to see how things work and get used to it. If you see "User A" gets banned after posting something, then you'll learn that you shouldn't post that. And it also works the other way around, you'll learn that something is good if you see someone getting praised after doing it. It's common sense, actually.

And I agree with you, sometimes mod shouldn't try to be "funny" or "badass". In the end it seems to be a competition to see who's the most funny or who's tougher, and that's why I said that mods could be a bit intimidating. Again that's why lurking is important. You'll see some mods doing this constantly and then you'll learn that's more of a "joke" (which, by the way, stopped being funny a while ago.

This was a serious post bought to you by Serious Scarab of Serious Scarab's Serious Shop. Remember, you can't be serious unless you're seriously serious.

What the hell, I just didn't get what you just said lol

I think that if a new user is scared at the mods, or any other user, it's mainly his/her fault. While I also think that mods can be a bit intimidating (locking threads, banning people), they won't do anything bad to you unless you do something bad. And when I say "unless you do something bad", I'm obviously talking about the rules. You're supposed to read the rules, and you even check a box saying that you read them and that you will abide them.

When you click that little thing that confirms you've read the rules, you agree to abide by all the rules that you 'supposedly' read. It's not the moderator's fault if you say you read and understood the rules and then knowingly broke them. :)

^This. A responsible user (or at least someone who really cares about not being banned), should know what to do and what not to do. And all of this is listed in the rules. So a person who has a complete understanding of the rules would never be afraid of posting, because he/she would know what to do in order to remain unbanned.

Now, if a new person doesn't have a complete understanding of the rules, mods are here to help, aren't they? A single PM is enough, and most mods would be glad to help (and glad to know that someone actually cares about the rules).

So that's why I think that it's people's fault to feel scared. If someone feels scared, then read the rules, and learn what you can/can't do. Then you'll see that there's nothing to be scared of.

Hm, this makes me wonder if everyone in the Barracks is reasonably aware of basic precautions one should use with their computers/browsing. Considering that the nature of the EGB is to go up against abuse, often malicious abuse made by malicious people, I would hope so.

If anyone has any questions about malware detection/elimination, or how to browse safely, don't just sit in the dark and hope nothing bad ever happens---ask up and learn to defend yourself. There will always be nasty shit that can break even the most powerful security, but taking even basic precautions (which can be easily done solely with free software) can protect you against the vast majority of malicious programs, and limit the effects of the stuff that gets through your safety nets.

Well, since this was brought up, I thought it was a good idea to tell you guys that you can go to the computer hospital if you ever have any trouble with your computer. Also, in the first page you can find a long list of useful, free software to protect your computer.

Personally, I use Nod32 and ZoneAlarm. I have never had any problem since I started using this great combination. Nod32 spots all malicious things, and the great thing is that ZoneAlarm tells you whenever any internet page or program is trying to establish a (potentially harmful) connection with your computer, and you can choose to deny that connection. I also have Spybot Search and Destroy to scan my computer periodically, and CCleaner to clean my computer (it also comes in handy to remove programs that I don't use anymore). I used to have Ad-Aware but as I stopped using it after I last formatted my computer.

This is my first entry to the Monthly Writing Contests, so obviously I'm a little excited. Unfortunately I won't be able to find out who won until July 9th when I get home.

I have never submitted anything to any of those contests, and I think that I'll never do it. Not that I don't like them, but I'm just not a very creative person. If I wanted to write something decent, I wouldn't even be able to come up with a single good idea. Besides, English is not my first language, so I don't stand a chance against the more experienced writers of Newgrounds.

Anyway, I like reading the entries every now and then when I have nothing to do. Especially at the end of every month when the winners are announced, I go to the entries thread to read the best stuff. Not only I enjoy the reading, but it can be a somewhat good way to learn some useful vocabulary.

Sketch usually refers to quick, non-finished drawings.

Quoted from Wikipedia:
"A sketch (...) is a rapidly executed freehand drawing that is not intended as a finished work."

You can submit sketches, but don't make them public (so they only show up in your userpage and not in the main Art Portal).

There are several mentions of a new redesign in this thread. The following are all quoted from Tom's posts:

"Stamper is saving the pretty for the redesign"(after someone mentioned the current wide layout was ugly).

"The Art Portal will DEFINITELY be included in the redesign, as it is launching well before it. The Lit Portal is more in question at the moment, although it is definitely coming. We're only so many people. :("

"There will be lots of adjustments in the redesign."

"For those of you who don't like the results of the related content, this is not the final algorithm so hold-tight. We will also be re-examining the placement of this in the final redesign."

The best thing you can do is going to Tom's posting history, and ctrl+f "redesign", lol.

There's no perfect forum, especially the free ones (where you pay nothing and they give you a domain which depends on they). So they being able to see the secure rooms is not something completely impossible, but if they were able to see a conversation between Puddin and Cobra then it makes me worry.

Right now the only thing I can think about is one of you being infected with a troyan, just because I can't think of any other thing. That conversation was on AIM, right?

Honestly, I agree with what Slash is doing. I think that he has already said enough, but I would like to show that he's not alone and I agree with all of this.

The BBB (Barracks Bulletin Board) will be a nice and easy way to keep track of the current NG situation. Yes, you can go to the portals and check the situation for yourself if you want to, but it's also good to check that thread now and then to have an idea of what's going on. And if you were inactive for a couple of days, for example, you can go there to catch up on what has happened during your absence.

The violations list will also come in handy, it's good to keep a record of things, especially because you'll be able to easily see if there's any reiterated offense done by the same person. And the preliminary investigations thread is not new at all, but it's also a way to talk about rule breaking users without taking it all to this thread.

About the "current NG situation", it's indeed pretty bad. People stealing awards is nothing new, but that doesn't mean it's not important. If a spammer steals any award, yeah, the flash will be deleted, but there's people who lost the chance to win an important award because of that.

And even about less important awards such as the Turd of the Week, it's really sad to see people trying to get it on purpose. Yeah, they are only getting an award saying that the flash is indeed shitty, but the turd wasn't meant for that. I remember that when I was a noob, a long time ago, I always used to watch the turd of the week. As the FAQ says, it was always funny (in a bad way), and I also laughed at it. But no, now that doesn't happen anymore, all because of some stupid people who think it's funny to get it. It really makes me angry.

And you just can't ignore that child pornography was uploaded. Thats one of the biggest offenses, not on Newgrounds, but in the Internet. Real people actually go to jail for that, you know? There are just no words to describe how fucked up someone must be to upload that to any place, and to consider it funny.

Yeah, you may say that no-one cares about all of this. But we do, and that's why we are a part of the EGB.

So why do people keep submitting stuff like music clips they didn't make and stuff like that?

Because YouTube is shit and it doesn't remove copyrighted material unless the author(s) claim(s) it. NG is different though, you'll always get your audio deleted if it's not your own. For more information, read the "audio information" at the bottom of the audio submitting page.

Be sure you "register" for the revenue sharing which can be done here. In the upper right panel there should be an option to register if you aren't registered already.

Then, submitting the flash normally would make you earn money for all the in-site views. But also you can use the Flash API, to put ads in the movie to boost your income. Also if your movie is submitted to other websites, you'll earn money for every time someone watches it regardless of where it is.
