Oh, it has certainly been a while. And you haven't caught up in Where is/How to yet? You lazy guy :) Also, congrats for your promotion!

By the way, does this mean that you'll get more active, or is it a " I'm still around, see ya all later in the next 100 pages"?

I don't know why your art was deleted since I didn't see it, but the best thing you can do is contacting an art moderator. You can find a list of all moderators here.

Also, did you use art that was not yours? Like pictures you got from the internet, or things that you didn't draw by yourself? Because that kind of stuff is not allowed. That may be the reason.

It's the flash with the highest score by the end of the day. Also, a flash submitted yesterday (or before) can't get the daily award today (they must get the highest score the day it is submitted).

About the best time to submit it, well, the time doesn't make a big difference. It's all up to you.

OK I just flagged one submission, where he even says that he usually grabs screenshots or stuff and then uses Photoshop filters until it looks different. I wasn't sure of how to flag it so I just chose "inappropriate".

Hi, since this thread is specifically about the art portal, I thought it was best to ask this here :)

The thing is, I've come across a person whose submissions are just pictures modified with Photoshop filters. And that's it. While the final result might look "cool" to some people, all the author is doing is grabbing pictures and modifying them with filters, so his work is not really original.

I don't think this is really artistic, and in my opinion this stuff should remain in his userpage only (if they remain at all), instead of being in the art portal.

Should content like this be flagged? Or do I post it here instead? Or maybe there's nothing wrong with it, I don't know.

I thought it was going to happen. I mean, the General forum itself is a big lounge to discuss about almost everything you want, so such a thing was not needed. Especially because there are a lot of people who visit the General forum regularly, so it would be pretty difficult to keep it organized.

How can you use an obsolete version of firefox thats no longer supported? that must suck total ass
Because when I type a "g" into the address bar, it suggests websites that start with a fucking "g", not websites that happen to have a "g" in them. If I type a "g", I'm not looking for "newGrounds", chances are I'm looking for "Google". If I wanted newgrounds, I'd type an "n".

lol, you can change that to get the "classic" search bar. But I like the current URL bar, because sometimes I remember only part of a website's name, and I can find it by typing it. Also, I like that I can use keywords on my bookmarks. "NG" takes me to Newgrounds, "BBS" to the forums, etc. I don't even have to click on Firefox's suggestion or type the complete URL.

I completely agree. I sent one to him too! I mean, yeah it wasn't a whole essay about why he should pick me and such, but I just said that I would like to have a go at doing it and I would like to prove to yourself and myself that I can have the capabilities to do it.

And he hasn't replied! xD

Meh I didn't send a long PM either. I just wrote that I would like to participate etc (it was just two lines long). He hasn't replied to me either, probably a lot of people want to participate so it will take some time for him to read all the PMs and then start sending the replies. Hopefully he'll reply tomorrow, but anyway he said that at least he would PM us to let us know if we were not picked.

Also, now we know what Rob's tests were about: the genres.

Funny you mention that because I was going through a thread from a year ago when they updated the genres (not to be confused with categories). That happened on 9/30, and yes, a Strategy genre was included (you can see the thread here).

It seems that they were removed later because of some problem, but don't worry, they are bringing them back! In fact, Tom made a thread today about it.

Some great games and movies sometimes remain "hidden" after they are released. Hopefully you can be able to find some of the best stuff by looking at the list of submissions (you can sort them by score, date, etc) and the front page archive (which contains everything that was once frontpaged).

That thread is about genres, not about categories or series. Go to this thread to find out more about genres: Rev-Split, Authors, Genres, oh my!, which was posted when the genres were released.

Now they are bringing genres back. I sent a PM to Tom because I have some free time and I like playing games and watching movies. And since it also helps Newgrounds, why not do it? :D

Yes, the password should have more characters, and support special ones. This would make the NG passwords impossible to guess, and almost impossible to brute-force (considering the 3-tries lock). I liked what you wrote about the "challenge question", and it even has a cool name.

Also, any person who wants to help Newgrounds and has some spare time might want to check this thread by Tom: Flash Genres & Tags - Wanna help?

Damn, another good mod loses his account. Poor Evark :(

They went after his account because of that thread, that's for sure. They wanted his account because I'm pretty sure a lot of people will feel insecure after this, since he was the one who told everyone to calm down etc etc.

I really didn't see that coming.

Yeah, it's a shame that there's no such category, but that doesn't mean the game can't be found. Since you know the game, you can easily find it, and if you ever want to look for a game which was frontpaged and you don't remember the name, you can look in the Front Page Archive. Via Sol 2 was frontpaged on September 2007).

Furthermore, you can type "strategy" in the search bar at the top of the site, you'll see that there are several strategy games listed there (including the game you were looking for).
By the way, the game is here, just in case:

Also, you may want to suggest the addition of a strategy category on this thread: Ideas for Newgrounds' Evolution MK3.

Cheers :D

Fro also told me that when he went to log in, his account had been locked because they had tried to guess his password more than 3 or 5 times.

Luckily he had a strong password and they didn't get in.

The thing is than some e-mail services don't lock themselves automatically after several failed attempts, allowing programs to run thousands of possible passwords. The password may be easily guessed unless it's hard and contains no real words. Having "penis" as a password may be secure against people to an extent (most people wouldn't try something extremely easy as this), but programs which check for every word would do it.

If anyone has trouble creating a good password, here's a great guide which will probably help you. It may be good to read it and try to come up with a strong, hard-to-guess password.

well, it would work if you are lucky...
but, as Ismael92 show us... the link http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1081 193 from Evark post is very helpful, if they are really using 'brute force' it's possible to get it, the more simple the easier... really

Exactly, with a simple password, you are very vulnerable to a brute force attack. There are programs which take all the words on the dictionary (and may even include numbers randomly) and then run them all trying to log in to your account. 2 mods lost their accounts in this way, so be sure your password is as hard as possible (lowercase, uppercase and numbers in a random order).
