Topic: Stop buying computers!

Posted: 07/29/09 08:41 PM

Forum: General

Thanks for the thread, interesting reading. I think that in most cases, people who have never tried buying the different parts and putting them together by themselves are afraid of failing. Even if things may be easier than they seem, things can always go wrong. You may break or fuck up something if you don't know how to do it. I think that the best thing these people can do is get an experienced friend to help them to assemble it.

I would like to make my own computer someday this year (since the one I use is getting pretty old), and fortunately I have a friend at school who is really cool and knows a lot about computers and said he would help me if I want to. He kindly answers even the most stupid questions that would make an ignorant person facepalm.

Learning to and building a computer is like learning how to cook a long meal. You got the recipe and all you have to do is cook it, which is fun.

I would also add that after reading the recipe and doing what it says several times, you end up learning it by heart ;)

I really hate when cops do things like that without explaining what's happening first. Well, not only cops, but everyone who does something bad to you without letting you know what's going on. If the cops had actually answered your question, maybe you would have been able to explain them that you have nothing to do with the person you're looking for. Anyway, luckily nothing bad happened.

I only stay up all night when I'm staying at a friend's house, or when there is a friend on mine and there's something fun to do. Otherwise I don't like doing it, not because I can't, but because I just get bored and go to sleep. I really can't find anything good to do alone during all night.

I remember when I was a little kid and my parents would make me eat that horrible bean stew. Damn, I despised that food, I just couldn't stand it. It looks bad, I don't like the smell, and it tasted horrible. We didn't use to eat that very often, but I always hated it.

Now I don't find its taste so bad anymore, but I think that I will never like it, because it's like some kind of trauma. Even if now I know on the inside that the taste may be good, I will always hate it.

I can't really agree or disagree with Xboxes being crap as I've never looked hard enough into the consoles. The RROD issues for the 360 is worrying, though. Also, yes there's so much you can do with computers but I like to play games on actual consoles as well. For the current generation, just the Wii isn't really enough and there's now a fair amount of PS3 games.

Allow me to jump in the discussion with a somewhat unrelated thing. I have a friend who got a PS3 when it just came out. Now he sold it for about half the price to get an Xbox 360. I really can't stop thinking how stupid he was to do that.

Thats the problem with doing a mega-quote. Whenever its all in the post box, its gets mighty confusing at some times for me and then I really can't be bothered to do it.

I read on the thread page and then I come to the "post reply to..." box. So I go back and forth all time, reading a bit of text, replying to it, etc etc.

Also, like now, this post wont be very long compared to yours because you guys talk about stuff that I either: Don't understand OR have no interest in.

The fact that most of the time it is the first one because I refuse to read back a few pages just to get the storyline. You guys and your mega quotes. *Mumble mumble* Don't make me understand *mumble mumble*

I like to read some of the previous pages sometimes. There are so funny/cool/interesting things there.

Won't somebody please think of the children?!
If I were married, well, I'd tell the other person to stop it because of them. Or if she wants to leave, that's fine, but she mustn't harm the kids.

Oh and remember a good way of handling cheating doesn't mean that you are still with the person or that you forgive the person. You may still kick them out of the house, but there is a difference between a bad way of handling it and a good way. Many people just don't know how to do it.

Yeah if I had kids I honestly wouldn't know how to handle the situation. It depends on their age and if they are old enough to understand it. If they are, maybe I would try to tell them and divorce would be the best option (assuming I want to break up with my wife). And if I don't want to break up, then I wouldn't tell them (even if I know I should).

Or if they aren't old enough to understand it, well... Shit happens, same as above, it's either divorce without them founding out what really happens or keeping the relation as if nothing happened if we don't want to break up.

Honestly I couldn't come up with anything too god... As that's one of those situations in which you don't know how you would react until it happens to you.

But yeah, probably I'd feel pretty sad. Because if my wife/husband was cheating on my with someone else, I would ask myself what can that other person give him that I can't. So I could have myself to blame for it too (even if it was him/her the one who cheated).

It also depends how long he/she has been cheating on me. If it started recently, well, we could talk about it. If it has been going for a long time, then I would be mad about it. But yeah, picking a good moment to talk about it, and what to say would be really difficult. If I was really angry about it, I'd probably do it straight away, as soon as I can. Then if I wasn't so angry, and I though that we could actually work on it, I would probably start asking questions about it (pretending that I don't know), to get the other person to confess. And if she doesn't, well, there will get the point when she won't want to answer anymore and ask "what's up with all the questions?" Then I would tell her that I found out. And then there are endless possibilities depending on how the other person reacts, etc, and I don't know if I would forgive her (I probably wouldn't), but as I said, I don't know how I would react.

I hope this was the kind of answer you were looking for :)

I love water too. I only drink coke or the like on special occasions (such as birthdays, etc) or if someone else buys it (I wouldn't spend my money on it). I drink lots of water every day, and there is always one glass of water on my desk.

In my opinion, it's much better than any drink, and it's even healthier.

I like several people, I wouldn't be able to name one only.

Again, there are too many to choose from.

7 : What's your favourite type of car?

I'm not into cars.

Well, Jade has a penis.

I don't actually care about him.

Yes, to an extent. Though we need some idiots and spammers, otherwise intelligent people wouldn't be intelligent, and cool people wouldn't be cool.

Again several ones, but I can play Metal Gear Solid 3 infinite times without getting bored so I'd say it's that one.

PS3.

17 : What are you proud about your Newgrounds account? (That can be everything if you think you are so awesome...)

Meh, there's nothing cool about my account to be proud of.

18 : Do you have a goal on Newgrounds (example, doing 40K b/p in one year, making 10K posts, becoming mod, etc.)?

Not really, I decided that having goals (such as getting medal points) take too much job and aren't really funny. I just try to have a good time. Well... Actually I would like to be a Supreme Commander, but that doesn't mean I spend countless hours in the Flash portal.

19 : After two years, what do you think about the new layout, and all the new stuff that has been implemented in Newgrounds since the re-design?

I came here short after the redesign, so I can't really say I like this more than the old one. But I do think it looks better (maybe my opinion would be different if I had got used to the old layout).

20 : What is the most important thing on the BBS according to you?

Cool people. This place would be nothing without them.

21 : If you could change your user name again, what would you change it to?

I would change it, but I can't come up with anything original. That's why I got an unoriginal name on the first place.

Forum: Where is / How to?

http://www.newgrounds.com/lit/faq/#ap_ar t_submissions

Q: Why doesn't my art appear instantly in the Art Portal like it does in the Flash Portal?

A: Art will appear instantly on your user page, but you will need to be scouted by an approved artist before your art appears in the Art Portal. These "approved artists" aren't necessarily moderators, merely fellow artists who are already members of the Art Portal themselves.

Q: How do I get scouted?

A: Do NOT ask to be scouted! Do not ask in the Forums or send the staff a Private Message about being scouted as these will only hurt your chances. Just submit at least four pieces of quality art and be patient, someone will find you! Every single person with art in the Art Portal has the ability to scout others, so there will be a lot of people with their eyes peeled for great submissions.

That and you need to be a scientific minded person. Which I am. I didn't take 5 science courses for nothing ya know. Nor did I graduate high school with a 3.0 GPA for nothing either.
And that is why I am not a science major! Haha. My biggest problem in high school was always my foreign language class, which is why I dropped my Spanish course after the 2 year requirement and took a semester of Flash animation and delved into the world of art. Science had never been my strong point, but holy shit chem nearly killed me. It was mostly because of my teacher since he was such a tough grader, but I'm not one for memorization. I got 60's on every single lab except for the bottle rocket which I naturally got a 100 on haha! Fortunately I pulled off a (miracle) 70 for the year and my average was balanced by the 100 I got for my semester grade in animation. I still want to learn Spanish, I just can't do it in a graded environment, but I hope to never take a chem class again as long as I live.

Well, I'm pretty good at science, and maths. The only science which is somewhat difficult for me is Physics, and that's mostly due to the Physics teachers I've had in the past. Anyway I'm not in College/University yet, and I have no idea of what I'm going to do when I'm older. Maybe something related to science, but I'd also like to study programming and even some web design.

I don't know why your art was deleted since I didn't see it, but the best thing you can do is contacting an art moderator. You can find a list of all moderators here.

Also, did you use art that was not yours? Like pictures you got from the internet, or things that you didn't draw by yourself? Because that kind of stuff is not allowed. That may be the reason.

It's the flash with the highest score by the end of the day. Also, a flash submitted yesterday (or before) can't get the daily award today (they must get the highest score the day it is submitted).

About the best time to submit it, well, the time doesn't make a big difference. It's all up to you.

Not enough votes. It doesn't matter who many people watch it, I remember where Charlie the unicorn had over 2,000 views and was still under judgment.

I've been getting this on the Flash portal (on the under judgment submissions), where I can't vote because of this.

I use Firefox 3.5.1 (I also tried it on Google chrome) on Windows XP

OK I just flagged one submission, where he even says that he usually grabs screenshots or stuff and then uses Photoshop filters until it looks different. I wasn't sure of how to flag it so I just chose "inappropriate".

:D

Hi, since this thread is specifically about the art portal, I thought it was best to ask this here :)

The thing is, I've come across a person whose submissions are just pictures modified with Photoshop filters. And that's it. While the final result might look "cool" to some people, all the author is doing is grabbing pictures and modifying them with filters, so his work is not really original.

I don't think this is really artistic, and in my opinion this stuff should remain in his userpage only (if they remain at all), instead of being in the art portal.

Should content like this be flagged? Or do I post it here instead? Or maybe there's nothing wrong with it, I don't know.
