Could you explain how in the hell you calculate all this? I know you're using Excel. Is it like my total gain divided by 30 or by 4? Also, what's with the minus in my change?

Average = Gain / number of days since last update
Change = Compares current average with last month's

Now I noticed that the Change looks weird with some other people too, it's a minor mistake. Probably a slip up with the "pace O" and "pace N" columns in the Excel file.

Thanks for the update, Bahamut! For me, this is quite an important date. As of today, I've been a regular for one year. Even if my activity may not be the same as back then, I do plan to become more active.

24 -- citricsquid

Congratulations to citricsquid for becoming the newest Wi/Ht? Regular! :)

citricsquid was one vote short last month, he did a great job so I could see this coming. Congrats, and welcome! Some of the other potentials did a nice job too, and I'm pretty sure that most of you will become regulars sooner or later, so keep it up!

No-one was taken off the list due to having at least three outvotes but another regular has requested to be taken off the list due to lack of activity. Phil wished to leave the Regulars List and like the previous retired regulars who made this request, he is more than welcome to return if he feels he's up to it again sometime in the future.

Woah, a lot of regulars requested to be taken off the list recently. It's sad to see so many people leaving :(

Additionally, my time schedule seems to afford me the time necessary to be active around here, where prior events in my life did not.

However, I have been inactive for a long time, and don't really consider it my place to determine where I belong here. I'll leave that up to the other members to decide.

Well, in my humble opinion, I think that you deserve to have an officer position. You created the place, and you did a great job leading it for a lot of time (even if I wasn't active back then).

Well, once you get used to it it's not that difficult, it just take some time. We were all at that point when you don't know how to do it, but fortunately you got around to post it, so don't worry. And if something goes wrong, you can blame me for sucking so much at explaining something, or you can blame Excel for that "list" option, which I swear that must be there in somewhere.

Its either been a very slow month....Or I have done something wrong. I'm going for the first one, as the portal has been very slow over the past few weeks, but then again....The second one could also be a possibility! Haha.

4. Lt. Records Officer: Coop83

Role: Per above, either through alternating schedule or by taking over when the Records Officer is unable to do the roster.
Notes: Lizzardis, assuming he wants to keep doing this, can have the role.

Lizzardis has experience updating the NGPD roster, and after this day he'll also have experience updating our own. I'm pretty sure that he would do a good job managing the roster if necessary. Also, whenever I leave I think that it will be him the one who will continue with the tradition (provided he wants to, but anyway there's a lot of time left until the day I decide to leave this place).

I said it before, but there are some surprises here. But as you say, it's for the best. The roster should show who the active members are, and if anyone decided to leave (or was inactive) can simply come back later.

Thank you Slash for collecting those in and for contacting me directly. I can say that in total...21 Users have been removed. Of course I have to add S-H which in total the Barracks now has only 30 members.

Still....It should be fun to see how this plans out. Its a much bigger roster than the NGPD one and somewhat A LOT more complicated! xD

Well, considering that so many people left, the roster will be much smaller so it won't be THAT complicated ;)

Thanks Ismael for letting me do it BTW :)

Well, we ended up winning :D Quite a good experiences, and we got some nice prizes (including a cool 4GB pen drive), and there's still one thing that they called the "Microsoft prize" or something by the style, I don't know what it is yet but probably I will be getting it in some days. You didn't say if your bot won or not... :-)

That's because the actual competition started today, yesterday we just finished programming and made some tests with the bot. Today, we won 3 matches out of 3, so far so good. The organizers told us they really liked our strategy and it was one of the best things they have seen in a while, and they would like us to to present some kind of exhibition explaining what we did. Of course this isn't over yet, there are still 2 days remaining (Friday and Saturday), and a lot of matches left.

Also some cool programmers and people who build robots exhibited some interesting stuff. A guy built a spider-like robot which is just AWESOME. You can give it orders and it recognizes your voice, or you can give movement-based orders (like moving your hand around the robot in certain pattern). It has a nice display which shows a lot of cool info (like information about objects surrounding it), it reacts according to the environment, and lots more.

I will probably be putting all of this in my blog soon, even if nobody cares about it :P

Oh, more things to catch up on. I'll probably read "The Arrest" tomorrow (as well as the other stories which have new chapters).

If you did not receive a PM from me, let me know immediately.

Cool, I just and replied to the PM. And about the roster, Lizzardis asked me if he could make next month's roster, and since I've been a bit busy I thought it was a great idea :) So yeah, if everything goes on as planned he'll make the next update.

After the rollcall is over (September 30 is the deadline), the EGB roster will be far more up-to-date and accurate, and then we'll begin the Officer Assessment---going through the current positions, determining if any positions are not currently needed (or if any new positions should be created), and determine if the current officers can/should maintain their posts.

We'll also be straightening up the EGB forums to ease access and procedure, as well as making it far more clear who is responsible for what in regards to reporting rulebreaking flash/art/etc..

Again, some interesting updates that I'm looking forward too :)

In other use, I signed up for some kind of robotic sumo contest along with another three friends, it basically consists of programming a box so that it's able to throw another box off a circle. We have one week to do all that, and today we started working on it and it was pretty fun tweaking the code and watching the computer simulator. It's all programmed in JavaScript, and even if I don't know THAT much about Java when compared to our "main programmer", I felt quite useful when I discovered a big flaw in the code that everyone had overlooked.

So yeah, I'll be busy having lots of fun for the next week :D

At 9/20/09 09:13 AM, Lizzardis wrote: Also...I have come to a conclusion. Newgrounds is dying.

Why have I come to this conclusion? Well maybe because I'm feeling down and want something to rant about, OR it could be based on two factors. The two MAIN factors that hold NG up high.

1) The portal. We all know about this place, a place of which shit ridden rot festing flashes get submitted by idiots and are attempted to be blammed, only to receive a huge amount of abusive reviews them for that flash to be deleted.
A place in which brilliant flashes get submitted like Tarboy, Portal defenders and various others. This place is dying....Ever so slowly. I remember the times when I could get over 80+ B/P a day....I sometimes can now, but the fact of the matter is that 7/10 times the things that come through are utter shite! This place is dying, the standards are at an all time low and people are just voting 5 just for the sake of it!

The portal is just like this in certain occasions. Just give it some time! Remember that there are a lot of people working on their Power of Three projects, so they aren't doing anything great besides that. Also, there is people working on their Madness flashes, and probably some are already working in something for Halloween. Besides, Talk like a Pirate Day was yesterday and we got some nice entries.

As I said, just give it some time. After all these special dates are over, I'm pretty sure that the portal will resume it's normal pace of submissions. Yeah, some of them won't be good, but that has always been like that.

2) The BBS. WEll we know that General is just one big mahoosive spam thread, but remember when we used to be able to have good discussions there? I used to have a laugh in there....Now I can't because I'm scared of getting my sorry ass banned!

I understand how you feel about not being able to have good discussion. And that's pretty much true because even if there is a discussion going on, there will always be some less-serious posts.

But if its some good discussions what you're after, don't be afraid to enter the Politics forum. I don't usually post there, but I think it's a great place which has some pretty interesting threads.

Plus other parts are dying as well! The Wi/Ht? forum no longer has loads and loads of questions asking about Newgrounds. The C&C forums are going hours without a single reply, and the rest, they just aren't that active anyway.

About the Wi/Ht? forum, well, if there aren't many people creating threads that's actually a good thing. It means that people are either reading the FAQ or finding the answers to their own questions, and therefore they don't need to create a new thread every time they don't know something.

About C&C... Well I'm not a regular here, but that's not a bad thing at all. It's better to have a good posts every 2 or 3 hours than having a lot of stupid posts per minute (see General forum).

The fact of the matter is, this place isn't as busy as it once was, the standards have dropped and the users are just becoming more stupid by the second....

Sometimes I wonder if users are really becoming more stupid, or if it's just us becoming more mature. I remember seeing a thread in General about this, but anyway, that doesn't mean NG is dying. Just because the site isn't busy it doesn't mean it's dying. And those stupid users are at least active. And in case they just become too stupid, well, we still have moderators doing a nice job in every part of the site.

/Rant

Wow....That was a lot to say. I guess...It just had to be said.

You say NG is dying... However look here: There are at least fifty people who have signed up to Newgrounds today. It looks like a lot of people is joining, some of them may not be active, but some of them will probably do something good for Newgrounds in the future, either by creating flashes, audio, art or by posting in the forums.

I don't really think that Newgrounds is dying. With some many things going on, and the oncoming Literature Portal, I'd say this place is pretty alive (and the chat! you can't forget about the chat! That will be ready soon... Right?)

If you're feeling down, maybe all you need is a big, nice hug :D
Cheer up!

Most people who ask about Newgrounders' opinions are probably people who don't know what to do in certain situations, but are just too shy to ask their friends. Or maybe they don't have any friends at all, and they come to the internet when they can act like if they were somewhat normal, thanks to anonymity.

I used to use Photoshop a lot in the past to make forum signatures (in other forums, that is). Nowadays, I just use it as my "advanced version of MSPaint". I mostly paste screenshots in there, crop them or change something, and I don't even participate in Photoshop threads.

I did? Maybe like 300 pages back... :-P

Well, if 300 means five, then yes. 300 pages back.

It's good if you want to have some fun, but since I live down here at South America I think I would have a lot of latency if I tried to join. I'm not that good at CS anyway (it's been a while since I stopped playing it regularly), even though I know that it really doesn't matter.
We're all out of practice. If anything, we'll just beat up a bunch of bots so everyone can have fun...I've had people in China connect to my server with relatively low latency, so I'm imaging you have a good shot...

People from China? Well, then maybe I'll be able to play decently.

I can't say I like cooking, because I don't even know any recipe. I do cook for myself sometimes, but usually it's just basic stuff.

But yeah, being able too cook anything you want to can be great if you have everything necessary (ingredients, etc).

Thanks a ton.

Despite the fact that you aren't giving any reason to leave, if you don't like the place then I guess it's OK if you want to do so. Goodbye.

Hi Pancakes, nice to see you. EagleRock posted the server info a couple of pages back. It's good if you want to have some fun, but since I live down here at South America I think I would have a lot of latency if I tried to join. I'm not that good at CS anyway (it's been a while since I stopped playing it regularly), even though I know that it really doesn't matter.

Anyway, I still think that I'll try getting online to that server to check if I have too much latency or not.

Woah... I just read Guts, and that's all I can say. It was certainly a great story, I enjoyed it, even if it was "weird", to say the least. Now I got a bit more interested and I hope that I can read more from this author in the future. It looks like several people in this thread know his stuff and like it, so probably he has written some good books I'd like to read.

Thanks for making the thread :)

Well you are probably good at your job then, because it looks like you're getting every personality in the story to be the same as its real life counterpart. Good work!

Can I ask something? Can we keep the spoilers INSIDE the EGB forums? I haven't even read it yet and I already know that the Male to female Byte is doing something strange thanks to that comment

I agree with this. As soon as I saw there was some talk about the story, I had to stop reading this thread because I had planned to read the second chapter soon. I mean, it's OK if we talk about the story, but at least lets try to keep it spoiler-free so that everyone can enjoy it :)

Well young padawan.....OK, big extremely tough padawan, let me take you on a wonderful ride to story land.

Nice story. Actually, the first time I saw those sigs they reminded me of this thread. Also, talking about stories, good job Byte and Eagle, keep it up :)

Well, actually a responsible man would also take care of his child until he/she grows up. But of course, women also go through those 9 extra months of work.

EagleRock, nice to see you. It seems that it doesn't matter how much you try not to make a big entrance, people will always talk about you when you come back. At least, this time it looks like you'll stay here for some time :)

"The Barracks Under Fire" looks good, I didn't even knew that it existed. So far I'm reading the prologue, but it's cool.

It isn't good to keep your password in a file in your computer since it's relatively easy to get. Anyone who can access to your computer (it doesn't have to be physically) could get it.
