I you have a previous version of Flash, don;t get CS4. The new features are all gimmicks..

Response to: It's been a while Posted December 6th, 2008 in Art

That's really nice, I like the expressions on the characters. Next up is colour. Once you have that done, you'll have a great piece of art on your hands..

Response to: Gears tooo Posted December 6th, 2008 in Art

It's really nice, but it does look too similar to the GOW art from JohnnyUtah..

When making art, it's best to take it straight from the original source, and not a drawing of the source. Then it won't end up like a game of Artistic Chinese Whispers...

Disagree. It depends what your style is..

Use Frames at 30fps

Depends on the type of movie your making..

Use Seperate Layers/ the Library

If its required, yes..

Try Getting someone to help you with actionscripting is o.k.

But it's better if you can do it all yourself..

Animations that are "suitable for all audiences"

For most things. Don't make a Madness flash that is Suitable for all. In fact, don't make a Madness flash at all...

***Don't***
Copy someone else's work

Agreed. Although, at first, it's good practice so you can focus on animating and not script or anything..

use 24fps or 12fps, etc.

Maybe not 12fps, but 24 is fine!

Upload Things you did not make

Agreed.

Use the biggest brush tool when drawing

Depends. But generally, agreed.

Attempt to get around these rules

Disagreed.

I disagree with most of these, can I be an outlaw? For fun, y'know?

Week 2, the request is presented in a list by perfect-insanity. At the end of week 3, Shanus will total up the points and that request will be checked to see who has left a review for it.

If you're disappointed in the club, fine. I don't have a problem with that. When you understand the statistics, you will appreciate how we work. We do get to requests and I don't miss requests very often at all.

There are currently two lists active - I am working on last week's list, with the latest one scheduled to start work on at some point over the next few days.

OK, I guess I won't ever know how it works, so I got that bit wrong..

The only reason I was disappointed was that the reviewers usually acted faster ad more efficiently than last week..However, since that post, I have recieved a couple of reviews.

I of course know that none of you have a absolute obligation to complete reviews, and its purely voluntary, so for that, I thank you..

Response to: Review Request Club Posted November 30th, 2008 in Clubs & Crews

To be honest, I'm slightly disappointed in this club at the moment. A full week ago, I requested reviews for a flash of mine, and since then, I have received no new reviews. By no means am I blaming anybody in particular; i understand that people can get caught up with other things and all that, I just thought i'd point out that none of you got maximum points for that week.

Anyway, in an attempt to get back on a better note, please may I request this for reviewing:

All converted to symbols? Posted November 30th, 2008 in Game Development

OK, so, I have Flash 8, I was happily using the brush tool, and then I went on to a new frame. Every time i drew in anything, it converted it to a symbol, but the symbols weren't in the Library.

I remember having Flash CS3 trial and it doing that as a default, but that didn't happen in Flash 8 until just now..

Any ideas how to change it back?

Response to: Flash Cs4 Is Amazing Posted November 29th, 2008 in Game Development

CS4 is, in my opinion, terrible. It's basically the F;ash version of Windows Vista: its slow, and the all the new features are just gimmicky..

3D tool: Not good. It doesn't allow a sense of depth at all (at least, not to my knowledge), so the only thing that would look good was if you were rotating a piece of paper..

Bones tool: I liked it, and it could be useful at some point, but not worth a new version for..

New tweening: I'm a bit on the fence with this one. I didn't really like it at first, cos it confused me, but it's OK once you get used to it..

Interface: Horrible. It's now way harer to move everything around to suit your animating style, and the grey looks dull and flat..

Overall, it's not worth getting, and I think Adobe needs to learn a vital lesson: If it ain't broke, don't fix it

I'm not really sure why, but I found Scream fairly freaky..I guess it's just because it's something which could possibly happen, well, the concept at least...

Then again, I don't watch many scary films, so I shouldn't really judge..

Response to: Voice actors? Posted November 27th, 2008 in Game Development

You might do well to mention what kind of character this is intended for. A male or female part? what sort of age? Any specific accent?

Response to: How do you rise the ranks? Posted November 27th, 2008 in Where is / How to?

Basically, go to the Flash Portal, and vote on the flashes highlighted in purple. Make sure you vote, not review. If you vote 0 or 1, and the flash is blammed (deleted due to lack of popularity), you get a blam point. If you vote 2-5, and the flash makes it through judgment (is still there after 200 votes), you get a protect point.

See this and this for more information.

Also, don't post pictures irrelevant to the thread. Thanks.

What do you need to know? What program to use? What animating methods to use? how to come up with an idea? Where to get voice actors?

Be more specific in your question.

Looking for somebody with CS3! Posted November 27th, 2008 in Game Development

Hey, I'm fish1892, runner of the Unfinished Collab.

The Unfinished Collab has been in a spot of bother recently, because the file size is far too big. However, a certain user has agreed to help me lower the file size, but they only have Flash 8. The FLA I need to send is from CS4, so I can't switch it straight to Flash 8. However, if somebody has CS3, i can send the CS3 file to them, and they can change it to Flash 8, send it back to me, and then I can pass it back to whoever else.

It's a simple 3 minute job, so, to anyone with Adobe Flash CS3, just PM me.

Thanks,
~fish1892

You're saying this as if you have been booted. You haven't. What gave you that idea? And more importantly, do you have Flash CS3?

Response to: I have a Q... Posted November 26th, 2008 in Where is / How to?

If you're using MS paint to create these images, just open the file up again, and save it. For some reason, it works..

If you're using something else, then I can't help you..

Response to: The Unfinished Collab Posted November 26th, 2008 in Game Development

Well, an unnamed user has agreed to help me fix the file size, but he only has Flash 8, and to accommodate zooominsh's part, the file is now CS4. The only way to change a FLA to a lower version, is by Save As>File Type. However, Flash will only go as far as the one below it, ie. CS4 can convert to CS3, CS3 can convert to Flash 8.

So basically, I can convert to CS3, but need somebody with CS3 to then convert it to Flash 8. It's literally a 3 minute job..

Anybody got CS3?
It doesn't even have to be somebody in the collab. If you're just reading this, PM me.

Response to: Where to get Flash Posted November 26th, 2008 in Game Development

Here are links to Flash and a few of their alternatives:

Adobe Flash CS4 Get the free 30-day trial first.
LiveSwif A free Flash-like program, but it's way worse.
Pivot Stickfigure Animator A free stickfigure animator. Only exports as GIFs though, and is very bad. OK for beginners though..
Pencil Don't know much about it, but I think it's free.
KoolMoves Free trial
ToonBoom Used less for internet animation, more for TV.

If you know it didn't turn out good (and you'd be correct), then why are you bothering posting?

Were you doing it from a source, or just making it up from your head? It looks like you were doing it from your head, and in that case, try getting a source image. If you get used to how Tankmen look and operate, then you can attempt to do it from memory.

Also, MS Paint is a fairly useless program. Try GIMP: It's free, and really good..

Changing versions of FLAs? Posted November 26th, 2008 in Game Development

This may be somewhat of a simple question, but also, perhaps not...How do you change a FLA from, say, CS4 to Flash 8. It's easy to change CS4 to CS3, because it's in the Save As option, but I don't know how to do anything else..

I used to think it was by altering the Flash Player in File>Publish Settings>Flash, but that doesn't seem to work..

Thanks,
~fish1892

At 11/25/08 12:51 PM, Dark-Muse wrote: Ok, Fish went through the details with me today..

We have a number of options..

1. We cut out some extra parts. For example, my second part (the worst one) will have to go.

2. We send the file to someone who converts it and sends the .swf back to Fish.

Well, unfortunately, I have had to opt for option 1. However, the deletion of the worst flashes was not the option. In general, the worst ones are the smallest. I have removed:
"Quiz Show" by McJesus
"Neutron Joke" by McJesus
and am considering the deletion of:
"Pork and Beans" by fluffkomix (FLA: 38mb. SWF: 5mb)

I don't want to delete Pork and Beans, but the file size is just too much...There's not really any choice..

Any opinions?
