Are we ever going to get the author dropdown menu back? Like, when on a video the ability to see a list of other submissions by the same person without going to the person's page? That thing was useful. Especially since with half the movies these days you can't click any of the suggested content in the flash window.

Response to: Samus Aran Vs. Master Chief Posted November 12th, 2005 in General

I think it would largely depend on the setting of the fight. If they were near phazon, Master Chief would shrivel up and die while Samus would most likely be unharmed. (depending on whether she has the right suit or not) Uneven terrain as well would be an advantage for Samus Aran, since she can jump much higher and maneuver better. In a flat, open area; Master Chief might have the upper hand, but then again the fight will be influenced by tactics. Which Samus would again have the advantage for. Not to mention that Master Chief would probably hesitate before attacking her, an instinctive response when confronted with a female. That is, if he recognised her as such.

Overall, I think Samus has the best chance of winning.

I'm sorry to say that the Newgrounds Sprite Club seems to be dieing. We're flooded with people who don't even bother to notice that they don't have to do anything to be a member. The members themselves are hardly posting at all. I'm hardly innocent of this, but it still is bothering me. I fear that I will soon lose interest in this club, so I will give my pre-emptive farewell now. I hope that the club will continue, and hopefully come out of it's rut and flourish. I may return once it has done so, but for now I'm going to focus my attentions on other budding sprite communities. So long, everyone. And fare thee well.

True. Well, actually BnG was just the first POPULAR sprite comic, sprite comics started appearing around 1996 and BnG began in 2000. At neast they're not newBish. And I don't think any of them have read BnG anyways.

Do you have any use for 8 bit custom Protoman poses at all? I've done a few for my comic and if it'd help out with your hierarchy then I'd be willing to donate them.

I don't think so, I've already given examples of custom poses, but thanks fot the offer. Comic's looking good so far, by the way.

I think the list would go...

Ripped
Recoloured
Custom pose
Splice (mixing sprites to create a new one)
Heavy edit
Scratch

Although I'm not sure if that's the full sprite list. You could probably add custom poses in between heavy edit and splice too. Same with scratch and heavy edit.

Thank you very much. I never know if my view on how the sprite types are ranked is accurate or not. I think it's a lot harder when it's not specified whether they're good or not. Nor what type of forum they're in.

I thought the Metroid collab could use something to tie it together, like a main song or something, but other than that I liked it alot.

I've quit school for this semester due to a number of reasons that I won't go into. That leaves more free time for me! Yay! =^-^= Hopefully I'll get more spriting done. At the moment, I'm trying to describe the heirarchy of spriting, with examples. I'm using MM7 sprites as examples for the sole reason that they're so widely used. So far, I've got the origonal sprites, recolours, added poses and light edits, in that order, and applied with varying degrees of aptitude. The two sucky recolours were painful to make. If anyone has a list of all of the types of sprites there are, as well as how they fit into a heirarchy (like sratch being much higher than recolours) I'd be very thankful. I'm just doing this because apparently some spriters don't know it. :-/ And no, I have NO idea how they've managed to get this far without knowing that recolours arn't "cool"

That looks okay, but what do you mean by custom? Do you mean that all of the sprites are 100% scratch? Or that you've edited every sprite in the animation? Either way, I'd suggest removing all of the blank space in the image. Other than that, it's a nice, clean animation. Good job!

Daft Punk sprite dance. i made a lot of custom sprites for it.

Heehee. That's cute. You synced it quite well. I'd suggest colouring the space behind X's head, so that it's not disconnected from his body when he moves it. Samus was well done, but I'd suggest not tilting sprites if you can avoid it, especially when they're blown up so much. It's nice to see a sprite music video that doesn't use MM 7 sprites. It could be longer, maybe having other people dancing and stuff too, or show a zoomed out shot that has a crowd, with Samus dancing on a stage or whatever. But that's just my opinion. You chose some sprites that deserve more screen-time, and did the movie well. I liked it.

Sweet. Kudos to him, and to you! You did really well on those sprites. Does he have a good plot for the game? An easy UI? And there's always bugs, even in finished games. It's just a matter of weeding most of them out. ^-^ (has read game design books)

Whenever you will be needed for Team Orius, we will supply the music, voice acting, and animation. While you are in reserve we have supplied a portion of our forum for you to admin over. There, you may do your own projects and help others etc.

That sounds like an excellent opportunity. I do, however, have some questions.
What sprite style, timeline, and degree of involvement are you looking for? Would this be a game, or a movie? Are you planning to publish it? What level of quality are you hoping to get? Will the person be doing all of the sprite work, the conceptual art, the initial sprites, or be only directing a team of spriters? If there _is_ a team of spriters or other artists of various natures, how large and coordinated are said teams?

The answers to these questions would influence who would be best suited to doing the job best, as well as who would be willing to do it.
For instance, an involvement problem would occur if you want someone to do 40 hours weekly, when most of the sprite club members are either working or still in school, and therefore not able to commit to 40 hours a week and wtill get enough sleep to do the work well.
If you're planning to publish it, that would rule out anyone who only works with edits, since the bases are copywritten.
Some people are also interrested in short-term projects, while longer projects might become tedious.

My apologies if my questioning is making it more difficult for you.

I'm still working on that commision from a while back, it'll take me a while to finish. I'll find out once I'm done if I'm allowed to post it or not.

And where'd all of the members disappear to? Ryan and I seem to be the only ones regularly posting, or contributing anything. *sigh* Oh, well. All you newbies and oldies, please try to contribute to this club, post comments, ask for critiques on your sprites, etc. Maybe we should have a back-to-school collaboration? That could be fun =^-^=, get our minds off the overwhelming boredom that is homework -_-

Please, no one tell me how dragons are this or dragons have that. "dragon" is a VERY broad category, that includes but is not limited to: wyverns, wurms, drakes, eastern, western, pernese, etc. Not to mention that since dragons are, as far as modern science has proven, a mythical creature, I can pake mine look however I want. So there

^-^

Anyways, I'm quite proud of this work. It's got *counts* 31 colours, if I'm not mistaken, and took me 2 days.

I'd like to hear some comments and criticism please. Constructive criticism especially is extremely encouraged.

The blown-up image is 4X the size of the origonal, btw.
