Because he's a fuck nutjob.

My thoughts? I think you haven't thought this plan through. The Wii sold by the bucket because, among many reasons, it was pretty damn cheap. The PS3 could barely shift squat until they lowered the price.

At 7/19/12 12:50 AM, dragoswrath wrote: You know, I think the OP is right about valve milking TF2.

I disagree. Valve's monetization of TF2 is quite simply a brilliant move. Introducing the hats and item economy and adding standard free to play shortcuts via cash meant that the game could go free-to-play many years after it's release, drawing in new customers...

To Steam. And Steam is where Valve get their fierce customer loyalty, sales, corporate responsibility and reliable servers (usually) means that by providing one of their most popular games for free they lure new people into Steam to potentially buy games, which makes them more money than they would if TF2 was the same as it's release.

Also, TF2 is the same as HL2? What you smokin' OP? HL2's deathmatch is more like classic oldschool shooters whereas TF2 is a class-based objective/deathmatch game.

YEAH, I HAD LIKE, THE BEST IDEA. WE TAKE THE BIGGEST TOURIST ATTRACTION IN THE COUNTRY. AND SMASH IT. THE TOURISTS WILL FLOCK TO EGYPT TO SEE THE RUBBLE!

Quite simply, there's no market for sim dating games outside of Japan.

YOU may buy them, but the rest of the culture has the prodominat attitude that's it's wierd and not something that's worth paying for. Infact, you'll rarely find dating sims that have been developed outside of Japan, or that were developed for a market outside of Japan.

Now that we know what happens to Morinth in Mass Effect 3, any speculation of what may happen with her around is completely up in the air. I don't know if she shows up if you let her get away in Samara's loyalty mission, but if she survives the suicide mission her only appearance in Mass Effect 3 is as a Banshee in the final level.

Prior to that, you could make the logical assumption that a particuarly Renegade Shepard would conflict with Samara's Justicar code in Mass Effect 3, thus making it a far more prudent decision to kill her to avoid having to deal with her. For me the decision was always going to be to kill Morinth but I'm very let down that there's only one outcome for her in Mass Effect 3, no matter what you do or how you interact with her.

Response to: World's first pure gaming laptop Posted June 17th, 2012 in Video Games

At 6/16/12 11:18 AM, Oliver wrote: Laptops can never be gaming machines. No matter how hard they try

This. In order to make a laptop a true gaming machine it needs to be easily upgradable to keep it at the cutting edge of current technology and to use the most powerful components of today.

There's just a few problems with that. Namely that powerful components like graphics cards suck up power like a fat guy at a banquet. So the whole portability factor of the laptop is nigh useless as it will barely be able to game for half an hour before crapping out.

No laptop is easily disassembled to replace the parts. A modular laptop that allows such a thing sacrifices build quality too much, which results in components getting damaged from the most minor bumps, leading to a bad reputation and lost sales.

Finally, components for laptops need to be a certain size. Even a behemoth 19 inch laptop cannot fit the latest Radeon HD 7000 series card into it. Hell, high end graphics cards are massive space hogs already, some requiring 2-4 PCI slots in a regular PC. Simply put, the best components cannot fit into laptops.

TL:DR. The advantage of a laptop (Portability) directly works against it being as good a gaming machine as an equally priced PC.

"What on earth are you playing?" My mother is a rather disgusted tone of voice in response to this creepy dream dequence scene in Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones was a game that came out on the GBA and on the 3DS as part of the Ambassador program.

Am enjoying it, though I've discovered the game can be far too easy for it's own good, especially in the later levels. So I've set myself a challenge run with self imposed limitations to see if the game can be made that little bit tougher, the rules being:

1) Game must be set to Difficult.
2) Neutral units (Green) all must die. None may be recruited.
3) Recruitable Enemy units (Red) may not be recruited, they must be killed.
4) Friendly casualties are unacceptable. If you get a unit, it must survive the entire campaign.

So far these rules have really spiced up the game for me, making strategic positioning far more important both in terms of keeping the weak units alive and getting tough neutrals like Garcia killed. Currently up to Chapter 6 which unloads a ton of cavalry and kills at least one of my men.

Interested to see how far anyone else can get under these conditions.

Had this PC for nearly two years. Spent £900 on a pre-built machine, as I wanted a 64 bit Windows and a new screen (15 inch to a 24 inch widescreen) and it worked out cheaper to get it as part of the deal rather than building it myself.

Can run almost any game on high settings even at 1920*1080 resolution. You don't need to replace your card that often if your smart about keeping it functioning (IE: Don't overclock the shit out of it) and are ok with things looking slightly below top quality as the years go on.

I've only played New Vegas but I've found it a damn enjoyable game. Love how the choices in sidequests, unlike Skyrim, does actually have an effect on the ending. Would love to know what you consider flawed about them.

It's not a flawed game, but I find the combat of The Witcher 2 to be excruicating to play through. The fighting style is basically only setup for one on one fighting and the game constantly expects you to fight tons of enemies at once, making combat a tedious case of "Light Strike, Dodge Roll. Light Strike, Dodge Roll" until the enemy eventually falls over dead. I only stick with it because I've pretty interested in the story at this point, slapped the difficulty down and it's still really hard!

Response to: What makes a PC port proper? Posted May 12th, 2012 in Video Games

Being able to tweak the graphics in detailed ways. Rage is an example of doing it badly.
It should be able to be run in Windowed Mode or at least not throw a hissy fit when you alt-tab. Mass Effect is guilty of failing this.
Any Multiplayer should actually work, preferably through it's own system. Borderlands forces you to use Gamespy, but it's all done ingame and functions at least. While not ports, Indie PC games have a bad track record for working multiplayer (Terraria, ORION: Dino Crisis and Magicka have all had/have issue with Multiplayer connectivity).
Mod tools are a must for some people to extend to replayability of a title.
