The majority of people here don't read the posts in a thread, nor the OP.

You'd be lucky if they even read the topic subject before clicking POST.

You seem to be missing the point. I'm not saying that the votes from making the topic didn't help, I'm saying that asking people you know or are associated with to support you in a competition is fair game, and moreover is something that can't be policed in any capacity so it's probably not worth worrying about.

I have seen voting competitions where they didn't even limit the amount of votes to one per day or one from a single IP, so I mean, what can you do?

You can be all honourable, but you don't know what the other people are doing so its futile.

I would liken it to this example of running in a race:

Training more frequently and drinking protein shakes --> Asking friends to vote for your submission
Taking anabolic steroids --> using proxies to get around votes per day limit.

Surely you can see the difference :/

Also, in regards to your sounds problem, this may sound like a silly question, but have you tried using an alternative program to open media files, such as Winamp or VLC?

The problem could be codec related.

and to add onto the list, windows media player barely works, the sound for some reason is nonexistent, and my AVG Antivirus ran out.

If you are worried about not having any anti-virus software, you could just download another one. Personally, I use Avast --> http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-
home.html

You said you had already tried system restore. You could try doing a REALLY early system restore, but I'm sure you've already been there.

The only foolproof strategy would be to do a complete format. I think it's the kind of thing you should do every few years anyhow.

For example in the thread I posted above, users basically robbed 2 apparently more deserving submissions of the prizes they deserved just because they were told to.

Yes, but my point was that seeing as you don't actually have to vote or even view the page, it's hardly a burden.

Oh sorry I thought you meant the point of the thread was vague, not the topic itself, I posted a link two posts above this though.

Actually, I didn't see that link you posted as I failed to refresh the topic before submitting my own post.

In any case, it's not a solid example as people make threads like that all the time, and that thread in particular was made by some random nobody and hardly got much exposure. Had I seen it when it was initially posted, I may have locked that thread, but probably not. It's not really fair to say that other more deserving people were robbed of an award because of that post, unless you know for a fact that the other people didn't do a similar thing.

If someone gets a few more votes because they made a thread on NG, then so be it. I think it would be quite silly to involve yourself in such a venture and then not spread the word to other people you know.

What do you mean what is my point? I outlined it fairly clearly. It's hypocritical, should be against rules, and shouldn't be done - these are my opinions, and they're up for discussion.

Well, it wasn't very clear. For starters, the bulk of your issue is something that you don't even have to do. If you feel that someone has asked you to vote 5 on a submission, as an example, and you don't feel that said submission deserves it, it's pretty simple, you just don't do it.

On a larger scale, the core issue you appear to be complaining about it a fact of life. It would be like making a TV show, or a work of art, or anything for that matter, and then asking your friends to not see it and support you? That hardly makes sense.

As for the whole community thing, I don't think it's so much about cheating the system and getting large numbers of people to upvote (or downvote for that matter), I think it's more about letting the community know about the activities of friends of the site.

However, I would need to see an example of what motivated your topic to discuss it in further detail as it's all very vague.

Actually the only person to blame is the mother, seeing as how she knew about the rape BEFORE she allowed her child to have a lie detector test regarding sexual activity on live radio.

One day, you stopped time and had sex with a random women who stood motionless on the street.
After your done with her, you resume time, and she walks away normally, unaware of what you did.

Haha, this topic gave me the giggles.

But seriously, having sex with someone without their consent is rape, regardless of time paradox's.

If you raped her for 0 seconds (since time did not move under your control), did you rape her?

The sex act would go longer than 0 seconds anyway. Time would still be passing in one form or another. It is not a linear concept.

A more interesting thing to ponder would be this...

Imagine if during the rape, you tripped and bumped your head, essentially knocking yourself out cold, then because of the wound you start losing a lot of blood, and because there is nobody to assist, you pass away. WHILE STILL UNCONSCIOUS!

Wow.

On the plus side, I guess it would be karma.
