I was thinking of this exact game, which I played all the way through in school.

Also HOLY CRAP StickDeath.com is finally down! I used it like last month, was I the last person to ever see it up or what? How prestigous!
Also making games like this would actually be a horrible game jam.
Make a flash game as if it's 2003 (people might not get why everything in the portal looks like shit)
Make a platformer where you can't jump
Make a game as if you were 6
Re-make any game from your NG submission history
Re-make any game from someone else's NG submission history
Use something from the NG Art portal as concept art.

Selling out
Re-make your first game on Newgrounds
Make a game as if you were a total creep
Make a game PETA would make (they just made "Pokemon Black and Blue")
Make the ending to a game without making the beginning or middle
I don't think there being too much noise is that scary of a problem, I think nobody using it is main fear. I mean y'know, it's mostly going on in this ONE THREAD.
That's always the kind of thing you can add later anyway.
I was gonna say "oh man I wish I had a secret game design circle!" but then again I can still make everything public anyway.
At 10/1/12 02:37 PM, egg82 wrote: Anyway: i'm not entirely sure what use a Game Dev forum would serve, to be honest. I mean, what would go in it?
Stuff like this, or this, or more o this.
If Newgrounds isn't that, though, then I can just carry on going other places.
I'm actually kinda waitin for this game design forum, I hope it's an actual thing now.
Maybe clip "Wall Artist" to the bottom of the search button and have Everything By Everyone on the right, aligned vertically with the logo.
Tank guy looks too cute, but yea sure, making it shorter's a good idea.
...this fuckin chode-boy tank doesn't look all that powerful :/

Nope. Maybe put the slogan to the right, under the search bar? I dunno.

A while ago I submitted this art, and I wasn't happy with it so I'm doing it again. Looks better now. It's concept art for a game I won't shut up about.
But I can't get back to that game til I finish my animation job to make a tonne of animated intros for this site. Which is gettin pretty boring actually.
Y'know what, I just read the rest of the post, and Starcraft n Counter Strike are already PC games that do that, and you're already playin em. I don't play PC games, so I didn't notice.
Alright nevermind, you're fine. Carry on.

Oh man, I JUST WROTE a fat design analysis of DARK SOULS like an hour ago! You might be interested in that game, it really forces you to stay alert, and study the enemies. It does have a strong sense of tension and pressure, and the environment's really well made, but it's not 100% open for playing creatively, so maybe you wouldn't LOVE it...
If you're looking for deep and demanding combat systems though, you are TOTALLY barking up the wrong tree with these RPGs and MMOs. I hate games like that. Check out Street Fighter 4 or Devil May Cry or something. Each attack and combo is a tool fit for a unique situation, that moves your character into deliberately choreographed positions.
Heck, play Geometry Wars or Team Fortress 2. These are the games that have no excess fluff, and no skill cieling.
Check out this blog if you're interested in game combat design, he's had years more experience than me.
Y'know what, I am TOTALLY waiting for this game design forum.

Not only do I have time to explain it; I have Crunchdown, Duck Sim, Robot Dinosaurs, April & Booster and Legend of JOHNNY to explain it.
If you're spending 6 months on a game, rest assured that a team of 20 people somewhere is in like their 2nd year on it.
Actually that'll be a good thread for when Newgrounds has it's game development forum: What Game Is The Better Version of Games You've Made.

Wow that's amazing! I first looked into pathfinding a couple years ago, and it took me like a few days to actually get my head around A*. Once I did it I was like "Oh thank god, I have now worked out pathfinding." (my game Solid Sneak is what I made with it)
Then found out that that's a coding technique they came up with decades ago.
So this is cool, I totally wanna try this.
lol I came here to make this thread once I saw the ads.
Here's an edit on the FOLLOW ME! icon I made a while ago. More coming soon!
Guys the Newgrounds font is named TeketuAL, and is available to download HERE!
Remember, Newgrounds' colours are yellow, orange, golden, and black n white. The colours for Games, Movies, Audio and other specific sections of Newgrounds are in the navigation bar. You can steal exact colours from the downloadable assets here.
The aim here is support Newgrounds on the strength and will of its' community, not to scare people. The whole army and brothers-in-arms aesthetic is a great jumping-off point for that.
Jus some tips!
Alright well now I'm really thinking about Gerkinman's rant on how this isn't a tactical approach.
Following's undersold, this supporter thing's a tiny thumbnail of a news post and the Newgrounds movie Kickstarter thing should've had this huge splash, or should've bin on the front page somewhere, ya just got a video player in 2012...
I've never thought about this before, but Penny Arcade isn't run by the guys who make the comics, Notch doesn't make the decisions at Mojang, Stan Lee didn't write that last Spider-Man movie, and I would've stopped making games if I didn't meet someone knew how to sell em last year.
I wonder if Newgrounds is overdue for taking on a suit. Is it TOO CRAZY that the guy who's designing games at The Behemoth is also like fuckin cheques n balances, making managerial decisions for this giant site? The big fear is that business-focused input is against what Newgrounds is, but Behemoth has staff dedicated to things that aren't making the games, right? I guess?
well this all falls apart when I remember that I know fucking nothing about how companies like this are actually run. Maybe there ARE a couple guys stat-tracking the shit out of everything and making all the phone calls, and a premium membership is a perfect idea.
Or maybe it's just these dudes sprinting as fast as they can with blinders on.
Before they got the WiiWare deal, Team Meat phoned up Nintendo all the time and got nowhere, then later realised they were just calling the fuckin reception desk by accident, cos there are no business men on that team. Kinda scary, right!?
(sorry if I just come off as a cock)

Yea it did seem like he was fancying up words here n there, tbh.
Folk don't "displace vertices" much here on Newgrounds.
Argh! The day they announce the Support feature is the day I've got £29 left in the bank. It's gonna be next month til I can buy this, sorry guys!
I agree with Gerkinman that Newgrounds can be too punk-rock for it's own good. I still think introducing Following to everyone as a line of white text on their user page is PAINFULLY weak!
People who don't read their own profiles, or don't HAVE profiles, STILL DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT FEATURE!
Y'know... the kind of people WHO THAT WOULD BE USEFUL TO?
When I first learned to animate, I used a flash tutorial called "Flash For Complete Idiots" on StickSuicide.com and it was really good.
But that was in 2003 and it DOESN'T EXIST ANY MORE!!! All the Google results are me talking about it, hahaha.
I got COMPLETELY LOST reading that, but if it makes your pathfinding look less robotic then thhuuuuuuumbs up!
Yeah I think remove the mobile forum and add a "Game Design and Developers" one.
I put the word "Developers" in there just to GUIDE PEOPLE into not making threads about the new Zelda trailer or whatever.
I'd use that forum, obv. I'd post all the videos n crap I find and I'd write dev blogs about games.
Actually I literally never check OTHER threads on Tigsource, so I'd really selfishly use this forum to make threads about things I like, and then leave them.
Game design is a really nebulous thing to talk about though, so there'd be a bunch of dumb circular arguments on there.
Oh you're right, I remember hearing that was a thing.
Ugguuuuhhhh I just hopped in chat and asked if anyone bought the Supporter thing, and one guy said "Newgrounds, more like Fewgrounds"
SO sad after looking up Newgrounds' traffic history over the passed few years :(
Oh there's plenty of stuff Newgrounds could change if they're ever under the thumb from investors.
They could introduce buying credits to spend on games, replace half the Featured Games and Movies with sponsored links for free-to-play MMOs, post what medals you get to Facebook, take Artist News off the front page, ban people for swearing-... Audio and Art only get like 1% of the hits that games get, so from an investment standpoint, why are you spending time and money on that, right? I'm basically naming what every site similar to Newgrounds has already done.
Seeing Kongregate and how much it basically looks like the Flash Game Licensing website, that's personally the best example for why Newgrounds SHOULD stay independant.
But yea, on the other hand looking up Newgrounds on Alexa is fucking depressing.
Yeah I bet the answer to the venture capital question would just be him explaining what's good about being independant.
If there are better questions, then push that one down the list. I'm mostly trying to think of things that aren't "When is [X] coming out".
At 9/8/12 09:20 PM, MoodyRemix wrote: Okay so i heard that you developed a program that lets you convert flash files(.SWF) to console formats(You know Xbox, and PlayStation) so you can put Behemoth games on consoles. I was wondering whether you are going to make this open-source for indie developers to use. Why or why not
Behemoth games are ANIMATED and drawn in Flash, but then exported out as images and used in a regular game engine.
BUT- They have mentioned converting actionscript into C++ or something behind the scenes, and it's bin a really long time since I heard about it.
When you had the choice of selling shares of Newgrounds to help fund what the site was doing, what kind of things helped you make the decision not to? (I'm pretty sure this is something Tom asked NG users about a year ago)
Was the new Supporter Upgrade inspired by Penny-Arcade's kickstarter or what? (Penny Arcade made a Kickstarter to take all the ads off their site and be funded by users instead)
