Google Terryl Whitlatchm she's an excellent animal artist who doesn't hide her line work under paint. I've learned so much about drawing animals from her work alone. Good luck and keep up the hard work.
check this out, cel shadows, single light source, no color
hope it helps some, once you get this down, THEN you add color. Eventually you'll be comfortable enough to skip this stage, or to not need the grey, but it's healthy to work in stages
I go---
lines
shadows and shading
coloring
Some professionals always work in gray first to make sure their values are right.
I would say to do some black and white work. Mark on your paper where the light source is, think about how that light will hit the geometric surfaces of objects. Faces, etc, boring talk I know. And then puts shadows opposite the light source. In time you'll learn more about it, but only through practice. don't worry about color theory yet, just get your shadows down.
Some great advice on how to color. Working in the comic industry for a while myself, as a colorist note. We used both methods. There are other trick to quickly get you flats down too. Duplicate your lines, then the bottom layer convert to two colors b/w. All the lines will have hard edges, set your top layer (still having smooth soft edges) to multiply, like turkey said. Then flood fill colors on the bottom layer.
Garrus sketches, from the previous image I did of him
something i found in my sketch folder, think i did it for the mecha thread
The last update on this one for a while.
Here are some stages for a job I'm working on. It's a young adult book about magical kites, they're animated, have personalities, etc. Kinda a high fantasy/asian tale. It is written my Jim C. Hines. He's a good writer, check his stuff out on Amazon or Borders, or any other book store really. I however, not a good writer, so here are some steps. Many of the changes are suggested by him or others, some are done by me. There is a lot of dialog between images that I won't bore you guys with.
Beetlegeuse! Kick ass! :D Also the faerie picture, with the mushroom. Haha, felt like I was seeing something I wasn't supposed to.
Nice, I'll dig through my archives and share mine too. Good stuff. I actually use DA for my animal stuff, there are a lot of zoo photographers on there. Also, Terryl Whitlatch is an amazing animal artist. Everyone interested in drawing animals or creatures should go google her right now.

But since you aren't joining, I love you :3
Haha, you'd kick my ass =P I'm the lucky one. <3
Yeah, I got the 21 ux, there is no way I could ever use anything else. I've not tried the 12, it looks slick though. I literally gave my 12 inch intous 2 away, I hadn't touched it for like 2 years.
I would love to apply and join, but this month and next month are so busy for me there is no way that I could. Good luck with it everyone, I look forward to seeing the entries.
I've heard that wolfions are quite lethal. Especially in a pack.
It looks like fire to me, but the others are better. You might try using richer colors. Brighter orange, deep red for the dying flame, etc. Find some refs, should be easy. And maybe think about adding very light blooming effects, kinda a glow effect.
Yeah, I'm done with you. Just trying to give you some advice sport.

In fact look at that 'original' of yours.
Look at the front of it. It's either from the other side of that gate or it's from a totally different time because the grass banks are much further apart in the picture I have.
Have some fun finding this 'original' on the net. If you do find it let me know, my friend who took it would be quite elated I expect, if her own photography has spread around.
Thanks :)
So you admit to posting someone else's photo, someone you actually know in real life, and claiming it is your own work? I'm not going to get into all the specifics of this, but if I personally was going to post a collab I did with someone else, I'd be sure to include their info along with the final product. In this case, ruining a cool photo with filters.
It's alright to play around and shit, and it's certainly alright to share it. Hell, I still mess with filters myself, they have uses and to learn about those uses you've got to mess around with them. But you shouldn't pop off and have an attitude when people deal it to you real.
Feel free to share more, just me honest and upfront. Just my 2 cents.
I was going to say, dang turkey is being gentle today. :D

Dude, is this based on anything? Regardless, it's a slick design. the tan color makes me think of some kind of hardened plastic. Gun almost looks like it would float in water.
Negative.
Smart ass aside, the font choices are terrible and barely legible. The bloom on the 'keep out' part is way too intense, the red part should be more heavy so the actual letters can be made out. And the drop shadow in the upper left, on the white text, forgot what it said, but the shadow is terribly placed. I'd try to keep the text simple, don't mess with it too much. Remember, nothing is more important than conveying information with illustration and animation. It's better t be clear than look cool, and this is doing neither.
The characters are fine though, so good job. Keep it up. Etc. Also I think you're supposed to post an image in your threads, so you might wanna do that before this gets locked. (Trying to be helpful, not 'back seat modding')

This is really nice, good work.
Also, I understand the bbcode bit, made an ass of myself something fierce the first time I tried posting here. :P
Haha, badass thread. Keep it up. Love the bugs and mini reaper dude.
I had to laugh, gasymedia is a great name.
I've heard bad stuff about them before though. But I don't remember the specifics.
My advice, take it or leave it, is to sketch more. Don't worry about finished products. Take a couple of number 2 pencils, a sharpener, and like 200 sheets of paper or maybe a sketchbook, moleskin. And just draw dude. Draw tons of things, people, animals, still life objects. Sword, machineguns, some anatomy >_>, whatever. Just get some hours under your belt.
Looking at your work, I really feel like you're putting the cart before the horse, you clearly have the patience to finish the pieces, so have the patience to learn how to make the pieces good. I'm not trying to bust your balls, I'm trying to save you from years of wasted time and sub par art. Get your basics down, then revisit this stuff. I'm talking from experience man.
