I'm available. I'm a concept artist and beginning animator. Here's my portfolio: http://www.peterklijn.com/portfolio.html

I'd like to work with a programmer/musician who has also some experience in animation. I'm not the best in animating characters, so some help with the more difficult parts would be awesome. Just being honest here ;)

A cat that passed by when I was sketching this morning. Since cats are the most dull creatures I know, I decided to give it a moustache and a small tophat. The cat seemed to approve the changes, said 'meow!', and walked on...

I think you are referring to the mask here, the others elements and size of the body arent really Caste Crashers-esque. I have to to disappoint you, I made this way before CC, and even then I ripped it from a Warhammer dude...(oh shiiit).....

Here's my pet. It's a home ogre. Its a great cook, watches the kids and punches annoying salesman in the face. When it has nothing to do, it likes to read philosophy or write poems. He eats carrots and small kittens. The only con is that he doesnt know how to handle stubborn doorknobs, so usually he just walks through the wall.

Yeah, I know that my anatomy needs some serious work. I sketch on daily basis, but most sketches end up in the trashbin since they have awkward deformations or just random muscles. Still, I cant imagine a better future than drawing to get payed:) doing art is simply my way of life. Maybe most of the work is crap, but at least it is MY crap where I poured all my heart (and sometimes a inkblotch or pencilsmudge) in. Here's one of my better-looking anatomy sketches. And yes, I know about the short legs and weird bone structure. But thanks for saying:D

*ding* some more cartoony characters. A friend of mine liked the guy with the weird hair in the upper right corner and named him Malfesto. According to him, Malfesto is a sneaky pokerplayer who hides cards, money and occasionaly a small poodle in his hair. I think I work him out further, Malfesto does look like the kind of guy that comes at night to your house to put a dead badger in your bed if you doesnt draw him.

depends on the piece, but I usually work 6-10 hours on a concept. Turnarounds and quick concepts take about a hour. Most of the time I start over because I dont like the current state of a drawing, so I think the final of mr. Waffles took about an three hours. It was made a few months ago, I improved greatly on speed so I guess it would take me about a hour to redo the whole thing if I wanted to. And no, I dont want to:P

you're right about the hand thing, but the hands were the last part to flesh out when working on this and the clock was ticking. Maybe I give it a revisit, shouldnt be this lazy. Here's the turnaround of the character. the anatomy is a bit wonky, but it was mostly used for the 3d artist to view occasionaly when he was modeling.

Did a quick paintover to share my thoughts about it. It looks like you couldnt decide between a frontal shot or a birds eye view with the little warp downwards. Anyway, hope this helps and keep up the good work:) [URL=http://img338.imageshack.us/my.php?

made a pair of unit animations, ust to test out some stuff. theyre not one of the best, I think I need to change my approach on animating for a game. Its a lot different than I expected, but hey, problems are there to get blown up:D http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/100109/8 0030_unit1.php

Response to: Need a programmer (AS2) Posted January 10th, 2009 in Game Development

Well, I had finally made some animations, until Flash decided it was time to crash and corrupt every single bit of the file. Great. Fine. ...that should teach me to make multiple copies of a file!

So, I have to create some new animations I guess. Any requests, a certain unit maybe?

1. are you going to have selection sounds? e.g "Sir, What Next!" , "Sir Yes Sir!", "Sir, Fighter At Your Service!" , "Sir, Worker At Your Service!", "Sir, Technician At Your Service!"

2. do you control the robot, if so how?

1. Yes, as soon as I have something going I will gather some voice actors . In addition to the voice information, the interface will mainly exist out of a bar to select things like the upgrades, available townfolk and fuel. When you send out unts to do things like gathering fuel, a marker will pop up above the spot to give information about the units working on the task and the time needed to gather resources.
2. No, the robot cant be controlled. It will just march, and you have to clear the path. Thats the whole idea of the game, and changing this will take away some of the magic, I'm afraid. Maybe its possible to control the robot in a certain way when you have the upgrades for it, but this is thinking too far ahead.

Response to: Need a programmer (AS2) Posted January 8th, 2009 in Game Development

Ah great, some reactions:) I will give some more information about the game now, and will post some animations soon so you can judge my animation skills.

Storywise its about a small, peaceful town that is build near a giant sitting robot. All townfolk know the legend that the robot will be their salvation from the evil army (classic!) that oppresses them, and will guide them back to the land of their ancestors. On one day, the statue suddenly stands up, and slowly walks away. Hurriedly, all the people in the little town pack their stuff and follow the ongoing machine, through unknown lands...

The main concept is simple: protect the marching robot from harm, and make sure it has enough fuel to keep it going.
- the time to complete a level will vary. Some have a lot of puzzles like bridges you need to open to keep the robot going, or a bunch of enemies to defeat. As usual, the difficulty will slighty raise with each level completed.

the townfolk can be converted to 3 types of units:
- fighters, who will defend the robot, can be upgraded with various weapons. They will always stay near the robot and will not attack unless you told em
-workers who will chop down wood for fuel, collect scrap metal and solve puzzles
-technicians will stay inside the robot, and will research stuff to improve the robot and the townfolk.

- the main resources exist out of wood for fuel, scrap metal for improvements and various items like gems to research.

You have a given amount of townfolk that can be increased. You can select them in a quickmenu to convert to a unit type. once converted, they can be called back to change type since some levels will require different amounts of a certain unit type.

-how to loose: your robot is out of fuel and stops moving (forever?), the robot has received too much damage (falling into a ridge will be instant demolition) , or all your townfolk are killed.

Well, that pretty much covers it I think:)

for the sake of keeping this alive I will update it with some concept art. Starting with one of the units. Meet the grunt:)

Need a programmer (AS2) Posted January 4th, 2009 in Game Development

So, here's the story: I am one of the 124345456,2 people that want to make a kick-ass Flash game. Nothing new so far, except for the fact that I absolutely cant bake anything in Actionscript. I can make some buttons and simple commands, but thats it. I'm a amateur concept artist/animator that has drawn for several small/ no budget games, but now I want to create something myself. I have experience with game mechanics, animation and level design, but I really need someone who can script everything for me.

I need somebody who can help me with working out the whole concept, coming up with creative ideas regarding scripting/mechanics and other stuff that has nothing to do with the artistic style and graphics. Here are some quick mockups. the whole idea could be best described as a sort of Pikmin/Lemmings like, where you have to keep a giant robot going on a march with unknown destination...

Hello Newgrounders!
I'm a visitor of Newgrounds for many years, but never created a account. Since a few minutes I finally have one, and I like to share some drawings with you. I sometimes create some Flash animations, but I never really finished a movie or something like that. Anyway, If I can be of any assistance for one of you making a Flash movie, I'd really like to help:)
