(BTW: to Timaa. I feel the same way. Which is why my post was NOT serious. I was making fun of it.)

Banning 'n00b'. Hmm. Well, let's talk about pet peeves. I have a HUGE one. People that can't spell out simple words like 'u' (you), '4' (for), and 'plz' (please). How about I ask THAT to be banned?

Thank you SOOO much! This has cracked me up. :)

I have to agree with you there. Partial birth abortion SHOULD be illegal. As should the saline method. And all third trimester abortions, unless there's some danger to the life of the mother.

If anyone wants a description of partial birth abortions, or saline injection abortions...let me know. Not many people know the actual method of these, but I'm not willing to put something so graphic up here without someone actually being curious about it.

I may change my mind, and post it anyway. People should be informed.

Response to: Abortion Posted December 5th, 2002 in Politics

I used to run a Youth for Life group when I was in highschool, and I won a few pro-life speech contests back then as well. I can give you all sorts of reasons NOT to choose abortion: Families who are desperate to adopt a baby is one of the biggest. I also happen to believe that it's a life even BEFORE conception, (paraphrased: "even before you were formed in the womb, I knew you." - God) If you don't believe in God, there's plenty of medical evidence about when life begins in the womb, when the heart begins to beat, the brain functions, pain can be felt, all that.

Then there's methods of abortion. They're all grotesque and painful and awful.

But after I grew up a little, I understood a few things...

I am responsible for my body and my body alone. Let's say I were in the position to do so...if I WERE to take the choice of abortion away from someone (especially American women as a whole), it would do quite a few negative things: Women AND unborn children would die as a result of back-alley abortions and butchers/doctors that provide illegal abortions. The day of coat-hanger abortions would return.

Also, it would set a presidence that we can't afford. It would infringe upon our freedoms, and that's already happening WAY too much. If that goes...then what's next?

I hate abortion. It's an ugly thing, and I feel it's wrong. But I refuse to let a mostly-male government tell me OR my fellow women what I can and cannot do with MY body. And I won't pass judgement on those who choose the route of abortion. It's not my place.

Personally, I know my mother enjoys that show. And note: It said: TO ALL CHRISTIANS. Meaning, it wasn't trying to sell anything to you, religious or otherwise. It was simply trying to gain the support of people who are -already- Christian, and who enjoy 'Touched by an Angel'.

Do you always take spam so seriously?

Oh, you should see me getting mouthy in the general forum, about spelling out 'u' and '4' and 'ur'. Gah, that gets on my nerves!

Regardless of how you spell things, though, it's the substance in your posts. I can't tell you how many times I've gone through the 'Bush is a moron' and 'Fuck Bush' forums (as many as there are), just to see a bunch of people calling names and crying out 'FUCK BUSH!' just so they SOUND informed.

I agree with you whole-heartedly.

I refuse to group myself with the right or left, liberal or conservative. And it's for exactly the reason you state: If we continue to divide ourselves into these little clans, we're not going to get anywhere. True democracy should be high on the list of priorities, not fingerpointing or trying to put the blame on the other guy.

Oregon also had a fuckhead like Lon Mabon running for senate or house, or possibly even governor. I can't remember which. I didn't follow him, because I knew he wouldn't win.

Founder of the OCC. Oregon Christian Coalition. HUGE Anti-gay activist, tried to pass a lot of anti-gay measures that have never passed. Talk about the mascot of the bigots? There's your man.

Medical care like Canada's, I've heard, is overrated. It might work well, but...it takes forever to get the help you need. I don't know, really...it has pros and cons.

No, not The American People.

It's called The Electoral College. And his brother. And himself.

Popular vote went to Al Gore. And while he is a bit of a simpleton, he knew better than to fuck with the economy. That's another one of my gripes.

There's a certain economic formula one can use, rather simple, actually...I can't remember it off the top of my head. Been a while. But my guess is, Clinton actually USED that equation, and got us going back on track (economically speaking). We were still suffering from Regan's economy. Gore? He knew not to fix something that wasn't broke. :)

Like I said...if the election went to the candidate with the popular vote? We'd have President Al Gore.

Response to: Creationism and Evolution Posted December 4th, 2002 in Politics

Actually, I can somewhat agree with you, even being a Christian woman. :)

I also believe somewhat in the 'Evolution in Creation' theory. Like everyone else, I can't say it's right or wrong, but it makes sense to me.

There's so much scientific backing of evolution, but I believe God created the earth. In seven days? Sure...but who's to say how long God's days are? One day for God could have been a million years. Or one second. The former would explain the dinosaurs and such. The latter...is just neat. :)

The Bible says the world was created in 6 days, and on the 7th day, He rested. It's a book, the Word of God...written by fallible men. We have no way of knowing, again, how long God's days are. That's the beauty of not being omnipotent and omniscient. We don't have to worry about it. We just...live.

Disclaimer: Yes, I'm Christian. But I'm not one of those that has made 'Christianity' into an obscenity. I do not sell/thrust/push/or otherwise force my religious beliefs on anyone. I'm not on this earth to judge.

Free Speech/First Amendment Zones Posted December 4th, 2002 in Politics

With the First Amendment of the Constitution comes the freedom of speech, and the right to have peaceful protests.

Here, in Portland, OR...when Bush visited? That was taken away.

Long story short: There was a free speech zone. FAR away from the President we were protesting, the media covering his visit, or even Dubya's supporters. THEY, of course, were allowed to line the streets of downtown Portland with their signs of encouragement. We, on the other hand? We were put behind a barrier. Out of view.

A few people in the front started mentioning that, HEY! That's breaking the First Amendment! We can go where ever we want, peacefully! We are NOT the ENEMY!

Rubber bullets and pepper spray. When a man tried to get his children out of the melee, by asking if he could go through the police line (he was directed INTO the running crowd)... He and his wife were sprayed with pepper spray. Their three-year old was, too. Their 10 month old? Face covered in spray.

A similar thing happened in Pittsburgh.

http://www.interventionmag.com/cms/modules.php?op=modload&;name=News&file=article&sid=170

I quote here the first lines of the author of the article in the above link: (by Regis T. Sabol)

:When Bush came to Pittsburgh on Labor Day, the Constitution left town and the demonstrators were corralled behind a chain-link fence like a gang of al Qaeda.

This scares me. And worries me for our children.

I believe that would be the First Amendment, although these days no one seems to care about it or the bill of rights. In fact people are quite intent on destroying it.

CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION, OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF; OR ABRIDGING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, OR OF THE PRESS; OR THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE, AND TO PETITION THE GOVERNMENT FOR A REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES.

*snickers* Alright, then. Fair enough. I'll reword it.

I think it's incredibly SAD that so much bigotry is going around. I can see the argument: 'It's not bigotry.' Oh, but.

Bigot:
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle French, hypocrite, bigot
Date: 1661

a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices

See, you have every right in the world to state that opinion. But it's sad to think that so many people out there can't see GOOD in those around them.

I prefer to look for positive, rather than negative. Makes me a happier person than I used to be.

By the way? The First Amendment, or treading upon it, rather...is one of the reasons why I'd like to leave the country. Not because the citizens are taking it away from me.

Because George W. Bush is.

Be angry at him, not the American people.

Response to: Abortion Posted December 4th, 2002 in Politics

If you want, I can list all sort of information about when a baby's heart begins to beat, when the brain functions, lungs, the like. You can count ten toes at the age of less than 10 weeks inside the womb.

Me? I'm pro-life when it comes to myself. Pro-choice when it comes to everyone else. I'm not here to judge others, and there's only One that can judge me. I can't tell any woman what to do with her body. The methods are awful, barbaric, especially in the last two trimesters, but still...

If abortion was illegal? We'd be going back in time, to back-alley abortions and women dying because they didn't have the right to do what they want. Sure, we can save the life of an unborn child...but at what cost?

Response to: Smoking Posted December 4th, 2002 in Politics

Short and sweet:

What a person eats/drinks/wears/looks like...does not put the people around him in danger.

Smoking, ANY kind of smoke, can be harmful to those around you. Cigarette smoke, marijuana, cigar, clove, sage...anything. Especially if that person happens to have allergies or be extremely athsmatic.

To the person who said 'I'm drinking poison, for christ's sake!' (I'm paraphrasing, of course), good for you. But does the alcohol you put in your body cause secondary intoxication in the person sitting next to you? No. But secondary smoke is a carcinogen. It causes CANCER. It's deadly.

Think about more than just yourself, and you'll be happier. Besides, if you're not healthy enough to get off your happy ass and go outside for a smoke, then you shouldn't be smoking anyway.

(Yes, I used to smoke. My opinions then were the same as they are now. I always smoked outside, even in a smoking establishment. Why? Losing someone to lung cancer CAUSED by second hand smoke does something to you. Think, before you act.)

It's sad to see such stereotypical (with a 'Y', thanks) thoughts. I'm not sure where everyone is from, but what exactly gives you the right to pass judgement on EVERY american?

Those of you who are from other countries that have posted these feelings/opinions...please. Tell me. How many Americans have you met? Enough to make an informed decision? Or are you simply going with whatever everyone else says? What the media throws at you?

That being said, I'd like to move out of America. The people here? Absolutely wonderful. The president? Uh...no. I will not trust a man that takes away our freedoms in the name of being more secure. And I refuse to trust a President that cares more about affairs in other countries than he does about what's going on in his own back yard.
