You know what, shadow?

Yes, trust belongs anywhere you want to put it. I think it's wonderful that you're such a trusting human being, and it's sad that someone had to take advantage of that. But don't let it jade you. Don't let it make you stop trusting.

If nothing else, learn from this experience. Don't be afraid to trust...but be a little more guarded. Anonymity over the internet has been used against trusting people over and over again...I'm sorry it was used against you. But don't let it get you down too much. :)

As for the girl that lied? She should be ashamed of herself. I'm not sure if she's on this BBS or not, but if she is...I hope she reads this thread and feels awful. People on the internet aren't just text and binary code. There's real feelings on the other end, and sometimes people forget that. I hope SHE has learned a lesson here, too.

Again, I'm sorry this had to happen to you. :) Rest assured that not all us girls are like that.

Response to: NG in troubble with FBI? Posted February 13th, 2003 in General

You know what? I didn't even read all the posts in this topic before I had to post. I'm sooo very amused.

See, the thing is...I've never seen animal pr0n advertised on Newgrounds, anywhere, in the ads. And I'd like to point out a possibility as to why.

When you visit pornography sites, it places cookies in your computer. It sits there, saying, 'HI! THIS IS WHAT I LIKE TO LOOK AT.' So, when you get to a site like Newgrounds that has ads all over...you see the ads that are tailored specifically for you. I'm not sure if this is the way NG works, but if it does...

Doesn't that mean if you see animal pr0n ads, you've surfed animal pr0n sites...or something equally as taboo?

Yes. Child pornography is disgusting and wrong. I think we can all agree to that.

What that has to do with animal porn ads in your browser, and not in mine...? Nothing. I just wanted to point out: Heh, whoever said they saw animal porn ads...I can't remember who you are. But I believe you dug yourself a hole.

Response to: Manic Depression Posted February 13th, 2003 in General

Thought I'd add my thoughts.

Being diagnosed with manic depression (also known as bipolar disorder) doesn't mean you're hopeless, and it also doesn't mean you need medications to be normal.

I'm 25 now, and a while back I was diagnosed with bipolar 2 disorder, and was put on a nice potpourri of meds. Now? I'm not on any. I solved the problem with therapy and spirituality.

This, of course, isn't the case with everyone. If you've been diagnosed, or suspect that you might have any sort of mental instability, PLEASE see a doctor. I'm assuming here that everyone can tell the difference between a normal shitty day, and being clinically depressed, or manic.

There's several websites out there that can outline the symptoms for anyone concerned about themselves or a loved one. And I'm walking, talking proof that no one can get better on their own. Therapy, with or without meds, is vital.

That's about it. I know serious stuff like this is sorta glossed over here on the NG BBS. But hopefully this helped one or two people who might have read it.

It's rediculous, I think. Though, I'm finding NG to be more and more of a...eh. Irritation, really? Not enough to make me take off, but it's irritating.

For example. I posted a topic last night about the use of 'gay' or 'fag' as an insult. I think it's wrong to use, personally, because it's hurtful to people who are indeed gay.

I point this out? I get made fun of by olskoo. Not really made fun of, I suppose...but I think, because I put my thoughts together in a manner that sounds mature, he said I sounded like a 'mom' and that I was funny. I didn't see anything funny in me saying, 'This hurts people. I don't think doing something that hurts people is cool.'

My point: THESE FORUMS DRIVE ME BATTY. Seriously. No one can see simple logic, OR a simple point. Everyone is striving so hard to be 'right' that they can't step up and take responsibility for their actions. It's not a HUGE deal, no. It's posts in a forum. But how many of these kids actually use those words as an insult in real life?

Sorry, just a short rant. I'm frustrated. *lol* But I'm over it now. :) Have a great day, all.

And Ryo? Keep us posted on if you get any more emails.

No. You wouldn't dare. Because it's NOW seen as a hateful insult.
Perhaps you should move this to the politics forum.

Calling something or someone "gay" is not always a slur. You must analyze the context in which it is said. If I called a whiny person "gay", I could possibly implying that he is being a sissy, or pathetic.

And the whole racial term for a black person is a red herring. We are talking about the term "gay" and not the "n" word.

Thanks.

I'm NOT going to move this anywhere. Over and over and over again I see people using 'gay' or other variations as an insult. People HERE in this forum need to see this. Not just the people that post in the politics forum.

And using the 'n' word is no such thing.

People use 'gay' as an insult the way our ancestors may have used the 'n' word as an insult. They didn't think anything of it then...but now? They do. YOU may not think that calling something 'gay' is an insult, but all you're doing is feeding into a negative stereotype.

Not every homosexual is a 'sissy'. Nor is every homosexual effeminate. So, sorry. But you're not going to argue your way out of this one.

Yes.

Do they deserve a vote of five?

Personal preference. Who the FUCK are you to tell everyone how to vote?

And last, but not least...'a fucking fag'?

What's the matter, you little homophobe? Does being GAY scare you SO MUCH, does it hit SO CLOSE TO HOME, that you have to throw around hateful slurs to make yourself feel better?

BEING GAY IS NOT AN INSULT. By calling ANYONE a 'fag', 'queer', or calling something 'gay' in a derogatory tone, just makes you sound like a close-mided BIGOT.

I am, by the way, a woman. This is coming from someone OTHER than the gay community. Find something a little more intellectual to use as an insult, and maybe people will take you seriously.

It's fun to say, it's a not-too-crass way of talking about the male...uh...you know what...and yeah. It's just easier than stumbling around words for that particular appendage.

It's also catchy. I never have to tell someone more than once that I'm "wang-less". It seems to be rather memorable.
