Ok so wev'e played around with the game a bit, and wev'e been able to get the menu, saving, and character select systems working, and wev'e finally started on actually making the game fun. Currently we are working on the HUGE playing area, and after thats done we'll start working on implementing the tasks and characters, as well as the effects of time. We've hit a couple of mental blocks though, and we cant think of any task ideas. SO:
- Can anyone think of any simple tasks (Kill stuff, collect things, etc)?
- Any more character recommendations?
Thanks

So by day you're just a normal person, but when you play at night you turn into a werewolf or something. The two different characters could have different characteristics. For example, you might be able to jump further and attack people better at night, but you can't talk to people and pick things up unless you play during the day. This would allow you to make it so that in order to complete the game, you have to play at both day and night.
It sounds good, but some people are likely to complain that they couldn't be bothered waiting so that they could advance through the game.

Don't you think its annoying that you have to change your systems time though ?
HERES AN UPDATE:
So we just gott replies from JohnnyUtah and Glaiel-Gamer, and Johnny has also told us the time that Mike and Stamper(Staff if you didnt know) are on Newgrounds. So that means the characters so far ar:

The answer will always come out as 9 if you do it right. It like saying
think of a number
double that number
add 20
divide by two
subtract original number
If done right it should equal 10
You don't need to really script anything

We did contact Luis a while a go, but he didnt reply, so maybe we might have to go send him another PM... We'll send Johnny one. Thanks again. If you come up with any more, just comment below, we'll reguarly check this page!
UPDATE:
We've messaged Tom Fulp, Glaiel-Gamer, Dan Paladin, and Krinkels. Tom has replied, but we are still awaiting replies from the others. If you can think of anyone else who should be in this game, make sure to comment below.

Sorry, we're not really looking for anyone to help with the project. Perhaps if your INCREDIBLY good with audio or graphics, then we'll consider but other wise sorry. If you can suggest enough tasks and people, we'll put you in the credits?

Yeah weve already got Toms response (He said YES!!!), Wade, we'll have to send a PM, as well as Dan.
For some reason i hadn't even thought of Dan, even though hes a champion :D Thanks
Yeah, theres going to be plenty of tasks and stuff that a player would have to complete. Its not just walking around and meeting staff. What we were thinking was that the characters (i.i the staff) would give you missions and stuff.
As a follow on from our post 'Time Affected games', we've decided to make a time based game related to Newgrounds, called 'Newgrounds 24'. In this platformer-like game, a player will be able to interact with different Newgrounds moderators and staff, as well as very popular flash artists, depending on the time they start the game. Also, the graphics and tasks will change depending on the time (e.g. a player plays at night, therefore the background is darker).
Are there any particular mods/staff/artists which you would like to see in this game?
Are there any improvements/ideas you would want in this game?
We already have Tom's response, but we need more than just one character in the game.
We will try and get in touch with anyone you recommend, and see whether or not they would like to be in the game.
Thanks
With this Newgrounds based time game, people will be able to interact with different Newgrounds mods, staff, etc at different times. Would anyone like to see anyone in particular being in this game? (It doesn't have to be a mod/staff, but also a popular Newgrounder...). We will try and get into contact with these people and see what they say. We've already got Tom's reply, but we obviously need more than just one person :D

Yeah thats what we were thinking, or at least something similar, like instead of 'game' days going by it would just stay in one hour-like scene. Sorry if its confusing. Would you play a game where you could only access certain levels at certain times? Also, would you like a feature where if you play a level at a certain time, you can select that time later on? Or would that defeat the purpose?
Also, we want to know what people would think about playing a game with multiple experiences.
Would you get annoyed when you miss an hour of the day?
Do you think you would probably only play once?
If there were tasks which required you to play at two different times(eg get a key at day, use it at night) would you still play, or would you not like it?
tell us your ideas
if you think a game based around time is worth making then tell us what should be included in it
if you think a game shouldn't be based on time, then tell us why.
Some iddeas for games:
- '24 Hour' series, where there are different events, tasks, graphics, interactions dependent on the hour
Some of those themes could be Medieval or Newgrounds based
-Games based on what day of the week it is

The main hang-up i had was that it didnt seem worthwhile enough. The concept is neat, but to really take advantage of it, you'd more or less have to build the same game twice. One idea was to do something like a jekyll and hyde type of presentation where during the day your player is one char. and during the night he is a werewolf or something different.
I think using the time affected aspect would be cool as an easter egg or some fun quirk, not the flagship of the game.
The possibilities are interesting though.
I agree, there are many possibilities which just havent been exploited yet.
Yeah, i think the only obstacle which will really hamper any process of a 'time' related game is the mental hurdles of sticking to the game. It would be very easy to lose interest, especially when your trying to make 24 different scenes for every hour. Of course, if its done well enough, it is likely youd be able to reap the rewards.
with the jekyll - hyde idea, this sounds like something which would be pretty interesting. It sounds like something we wouldn't mind incorporating into the game.
But as you say, the time might just have to be a small part in a bigger game. We'll just have to see how it goes...
For anyone else, what do they think. Would a game based around time be worth making???
At 8/17/09 09:13 AM, Luis wrote: I was going to base my power of 3 game on this concept. I ended up not doing it because it started becoming very 'trendy'.... like it didnt seem like a concept strong enough to carry the game.
But basically the premise was kind of like Castlevania II: Simons Quest. Where at night the levels would transform and the creatures would be tougher and different than those during the day.
I wouldnt outright tell people that, so itd just be a subtle change depending on when they decided to play the game and just let that be like the point of gossip and interest in it.
What difficulties did you face while working on the time concept? Did it get too repetitive? Also with the gossip, it is why we were thinking on doing the game, because everyone could share their experience, it would encourage others to play at different times, and it would rack up the views :P hahaha. But yeah, we just want to make something that hasn't really been done before.
Also Luis, we were wondering what time you usually come on to Newgrounds, like the usual hours you log on. it would help out with another 'time' game we were thinking on developing, something along the lines of "24 Hours - Newgrounds", were you get to interact with different mods at different times. It would help a LOT thanks :D. If you could just post below or PM that would be great. Thanks Again :D

A clock in the background. Not a clock you'd notice quickly, but one that's a bit faded. And glows in the dark.
A room, containing the clock, etc. in the background, maybe a sleeping person in a bed at night, or someone looking at a computer screen at night, a view of a city through the window, etc.
Hmmm yeah, but we were thinking along the lines of like the background changes, like from blue to black. Theres so many problems when doing a time idea on a LARGE project, because we wanted to make different tasks for every hour, so that means were going to have to code like 24 different scenes :(. A Clock would be a good idea for like inside houses though. Haha im laughing at myself for not thinking of something simple like that which would still improve the game. THANKS! :D

Yeah we know the basics to do with the OS time. We were just thinking of how we could integrate this into a game. We were thinking along the lines of a RPG platformer which gives you different graphics, tasks, etc depending on what hour you start the game...

HAHA yeah we respect your privacy. WE were planning on doing something very similar to what you seem to be hinting at. We just want people to be able to experience something new nearly every time they play the game. Has anyone get any ideas which they would like to see which involves this 'time' aspect?

Cool. Are there any games where the gameplay is affected more by the time that you can think of? Im surprised that there aren't quite a few games which are affected by time, because it would mean people would play them more often at different times to see the whole game experience
At 8/17/09 08:21 AM, 4urentertainment wrote: Already in the works ;)
Are you planning on making a game like that. Mind telling us your ideas? We were planning on making a platformer affected by time, is yours similar to that?
At 8/17/09 08:04 AM, Logidude wrote: Yes. Pokemon Pearl and Diamond.
You define the time for that in game as well, and is not system time im guessing???
I want flash games which are affected by the OS time.
Hey has anyone played a game where your game experience is changed by the time at which you play it. Not how LONG youv'e played it for, but at what time you play it. Eg Playing at midnight makes screen dark, playing at midday makes it bright. This is affected by your system's time, not ingame time.
Thanks for the ideas, i partiicuarly like the collecting food and colllecting armour. The Dragon task though may have a few obstacles (such as art) which could make it very difficult, as the 3D has many limitations. A medieval theme seems to be the one were following right now though, so were happy that your ideas fit into that :D
Well what sort of setting would you like to see it set? But if you think im being lazy how about thinking of some quests for a forest theme? Or perhaps within a medieval village
