This browser-based game war theme inspired by a setting of other elements too.
Examples of graphics shown above.
P.S. Remember the artist draws and he does not need to understand the gameplay!

1) Everyone has been writing on topic...? They want more info bout ur game
2) War themes are a good start but we're gonna want more (E.g. design sketches/ideas from you)
3) The gameplay affecs how the artist will create the graphics so they kinda do need to know a bit bout gameplay

Oh btw (sorry double post), im using AS2, and i know that you are supposed to use sine and cosine, but i dont know how to implement correctly.

Response to: Enemy Wave, Attacking Method Posted October 8th, 2009 in Game Development

ok another question, quite a difficult one too. So what i want is enemies to move towards the player. DONE THAT. What i now need are different, unique ways to do so. For example, rather than moving towards the character in a straight line, i would also like ways to make them move towards the character by spiraling, moving up and down in a wave effect, curving, etc. Another 'catch' is that i would prefer that the transformations of the x, y coordinates of the enemies to be x += or y+=, rather than x= and y=, because the player is able to move, and with x=, y=, the enemies move with the player. THANKS

Basically i want unique movement for enemies

Hey MindChamber, in the story didn't it say that the fish-alien's left eye was stabbed with the guys knife? Because in your illustration it seems that the aliens right eye is missing, not its left. Anyways yeah just wondering ;D...

Actually, if you know what you're doing, flash could get you a shitload of bucks! A game made in one week by a guy I know has been offered over 6000$!! (it's not released yet) Hell knows how much ad money it's going to make as well. And here it a list of some past sponsorship prices.

Sponsors pay big, real big.

You and hdxmike are both correct, sponsors pay quite a bit ($6000+), but when you think about it, its not very much for a company. A good game/movie will usually take quite a few weeks. If say you did recieve $6000 from your last game and you were running a production, that money would quickly disappear. During the months/weeks when you develop more flash, you have to pay for your employees, office, computer equipment/repair, etc. Im sure that the money would quickly disappear, and if one of your games do not recieve sponsorship thats another month without that $6000. Anyways yeah. ;D

First this company is going to be done on NG, while I generate the cash flow to get the office, but for the time being everything will be done here.

If your thinking about earning most of your money through flash, im sorry, but i doubt you'll get even remotely enough. Flash is really only good if you want to get a couple of bucks, and its unlikely that youll be able to make money to continue paying for your office, employees/workmates, etc. Good luck anyways.

Enemy Wave, Attacking Method Posted October 7th, 2009 in Game Development

Hey there. So Anyways ive been working on my Halloween Flash today and ive come across a problem. Im trying to work out some code for my own type of Enemy Wave system, but im not sure how to make the enemies attack the player. There are two options...
i) Enemies advance toward player and explode on contaact, causing moderate-large damage
ii) Enemies advance towards player, and when close enough, begin to attack (e.g. attack, wait 1 second, attack....). Each attack takes off a small-ish amount of damage

i) PROS | Cons
- PRO - No attack animation required
- PRO - Depth problems solved (The depth of enemies seems to look weird when too close to player)
- PRO - Makes it easier for player
- CON - No attack animation = less enjoyment???
- CON - Large amounts of damage may make it harder for player

ii) PROS | CONS
- PRO - Attack animation???
- PRO - Smaller amounts of damage = easier
- PRO - More enjoyable/ difficult ???
- CON - More coding required
- CON - May make computers run slower (DATA OVERLOAD ;( )
- CON - Closeness to player = depth problems
- CON - Attack Animation required
- CON - May make it difficult for players to destroy close-up enemies

I am happy to do either option but i want to know what you guys think would be the best. Which option would you find more...
- Enjoyable
- Difficult
- Suitable

THANKS

Well i actually use my laptop, and i have to use my little touch pad which is a pain in the arse. Anyone who uses a laptop knows what i mean. I cant afford to get a tablet ;( hahaha. Currently im working on improving my backgrounds, working on a halloween project. Thanks though ;D

The Official Writer's Block Thread Posted September 30th, 2009 in Game Development

INTRO
First off i would like to thank Luis for allowing this thread. THANKS LUIS!
Ok well this thread has been made so that people can post ideas, activities, etc to help overcome Writer's Block. If you need help in overcoming Writer's Block or you want to help others be sure to post here. Also come here if you want ideas, for something to animate, draw, do, etc, rather than making a whole thread about it. THANKS.

GENERAL
Well what we want in this thread are helpful tips from the community (thats you) which help you overcome Writer's Block. These tips are supposed to make you feel motivated. This thread is aimed at writers block amongst flash artists, but it can be used for other types of mental blanks.

Ok so what we want in this thread are...
- Tips and advice to help avoid writers block and mental blanks
- Tips and advice to help cure writers block and mental blanks
- Simple Activities which can be performed to help cure writers block (eg breathing exercises, etc)
- Simple Tasks to help people get back into the mood of animating/developing (e.g. make a walk cycle)
- Past stories in which you were able to get past writers block and how you did it

RULES
As usual, all forum rules apply (e.g. no trolling, negativity, etc), but here are some other rules for the thread...
- Try not to post advice/tips which have already been said
- Post tips which are actually helpful
- If you are posting activities, keep them simple. Dont make them too extreme.
- If you take part in one of the simple activities, do not post your results here or on Newgrounds (e.g. if your told to draw a walk cycle, dont post the file on Newgrounds or in this thread)
- If posting about activities, dont direct them to one person. Leave it open for everyone. (e.g. Dont Post - Bob do this if you have writers block...)
- Dont ask to be credited for whatever reason whatsoever if someone takes your advice
- Keep it at a mature level, dont go around saying stuff like 'To clear writers block have heaps of sex'. It just makes you look like a tool.
- Dont comment saying 'I have writers block help me!'. Just keep an eye out for any ideas which may be posted here.
- Dont ask for specific help from a particular person
- Try to avoid linking to other sites
- Make sure the stories you post are REAL and REASONABLE.

- If you see any more of my posts it is likely to post more guidelines or to warn others. Keep an eye out as conditions on this thread may change. Hopefully not...

Basically have fun when coming up with ideas to help people. Be creative and helpful so that we can see a lot more quality flash games and movies in the portal. Writer's Block is really annoying and hard to get over, and everyone will have it at some point or another. Hopefully this will help people get over it faster...

THANKS

I just want to ask how many frames a second should my animation run at for a smooth transition? I mean using image and shape tweening the animation just looks bad, but what do you recommened to make the animation look smoother?

Ok well the average eye sees about 24 frames per second, so 24 / 25 fraems per second is a good place to start.
