Yeah so ive been tinkering around with the engine and im still having trouble working out how to do textures. IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT MANIPULATING BITMAPS IN AS2, please post here, or even a tutorial. THANKS ;D.
Also ive come up with a game idea. Basically theres a circular arena in which you battle an opponent. Itll be similar to Swords n Sandals, but of course with a 3D arena, and rather than turnbased battle, itll be continuos. What do you think? Any suggestions, etc? Do u reckon itll be worth making?
Also if this game does sound good, id need some help with AI. Any tutorials, etc. I was thinking of different functions, like Idle, Run, Attack, etc, but im not sure if thatll work well...
Also any suggstions for other games would be good...
THANKS, PLEASE REPLY ;D
Ok well i havent posted here in a while, havent done any art in a while...
Heres something i did to practice on my technique. Itds the first thing in this thread ive actually submitted to the Art Portal.
Yeah no prob. I should have posted it before:

Now your in a completely different ballpark. You might want to:
1) learn some Actionscript (Programming). Search NG tutorials or Google.
2) Search topics about your problems on these forums before you post a question
3) Download a prelodaer(thats what there called) from Newgrounds

Try not to advertise and stuff on the forums, do it on your userpage. Keep these forums for questions, etc
Hahaha it sure was a 15 second collab, this thread ony lasted this long hahaha. Yeah OP try getting 3 submissions over 3.5 before starting (get an average 3.5)

*sigh No one seems to do it the right way
Like HDX mike says on a daily basis lol
MAK ME GAME PLZ
Hahahaha. Why dont u go make a thread about it?, most new users probably wont see it but at least 1 in every 100 might learn something from it and itll save us time and save the forum from stupid threads hahaha

the object is to not let the guy get too hairy, his hair grows slowly at the start but it keeps growing faster and faster the longer you keep up.
The radar thing in the upper right corner says where he has the most hair.
You shave by clicking on the shaving cream icon and shake that thing and put some cream on wherever you need to shave him,
then you grab your razor and shave it away.
If you shave him too fast he will start to bleed and his health will run down, so you have to put a patch on him to stop it.
Then there is this other mode in which he will start hairy and you need to shave as much as possible within a certain amount of time.
I like this idea, sounds fun as a short game, just something to waste time on. I like the artwork as well, hopefully your animating skills are also just as good... Good Luck
Ok well i fixed some code and moved stuff around so heres the engine now:
http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/3809/703 16_3D_ENGINEv2.php
so stuff ive changed include:
- Character now included. 3rd person from now on..
- Depth problems with objects has been amended
By working through the code ive come across another problem now where, if i want to make walls, etc, rather than just floors, the depth screws up so hopefuly thatll be fixed in next engine...
Criticism and Suggestions (including game ideas) :)
Thanks

Woops, sorry about that didn't read the posting rules for the art forum. Well here is my picture I've drawn,
is it still OK to ask if someone here can fix it up ? I'm a bit confused about that art request section, since I'm not asking some one to draw it up from scratch just to make it look a little better.
Tomato, Tomato... (IF U DONT UNDERSTAND IT MEANS ITS BASICALLY THE SAME THING). Anyways just go post in the Art request now, this is gonna get locked likely, so u may as well get a head start. Art looks alright anyway
At 10/25/09 03:11 AM, jisou wrote: very nice engine. are there any plans for loading meshes? or is that still to far away?
Thanks. Yeah thats likely still very far away. Right now all i can work with are simple squares and triangles :( hahaha. If i wanted to do some of that stuff though id likely have to switch over to AS3, which of course is the smart thing to do, but i love my good ol AS2 hahaha.
Ok so heres what happened when i attempted to implement a Bitmap onto the floor:
http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/3509/489 81_3D_FLOOR.php
Im not familiar enough with BitmapData, so i dont know if its possible to scale or rotate the bitmap... If so please post some code, it would help :D

I am sorry for pestering your thread, but now I think my point is clear and you should be able to make a good choice about believing everything this guy says automatically, or be more critical to what he's claiming.
Hahaha dont worry bout it
Ok now back to this Gay engine of mine :). BTW ill be posting shortly a slight change which i made to the demo in which i attempted to add bitmpas, and then ull see why im having a problem with them
Hey can i make a simple Menu for this? I have a simple idea in mind and if u like ill get you the .fla so u can customize it to ur liking. Hahaha im just really bored :( hahaha
Hahaha cmon guys cool it. Give me some feedback about the engine rather than arguing bout nothing hahaha
At 10/24/09 11:09 PM, 7IsUnlucky wrote: k, doesn't sound like it from your description
hahaha i thought so. My method is likely more inefficient than raycasting hahaha
At 10/24/09 10:57 PM, 7IsUnlucky wrote: Raycastng, amirite?
Haha, umm i dont think so, i dont know the basic concept of raycasting well enough to tell you if i used it hahaha. U have to use quite a bit of math for it though dont you? Very Basically i set up some points in 3D space and drew between them, is that ray casting? I doubt it but yeah hahahaha
At 10/24/09 07:47 PM, Logidude wrote: For the person in front of the camera, give the person the same coordinates as the camera, so it can follow the camera.
Yeah thats wat im planning on doing, its simple enough for the Z and X axis but the Y axis is giving me a little bit of trouble if say i wanted to do jumping or falling. The camera just wont follow it properly, anyways ill work something out :D
At 10/24/09 07:14 AM, milchreis wrote: old
Nice tutorial, i think some of the code in there is similar to the integration of the INTERACTIVE objects i was talking bout before, but i dont see how you could integrate an actual 3D platform like the demo

That sort of method or is there a better way? This method is being whack any way. You guys have any suggestions ??
Thanks!
onClipEvent(enterFrame){

That should shorten things down a bit, someone else is likely going to give u a better code though
1) if u forget the code write it down in an AS file
2) Dont go searching for a whole tutorial about Side scrolling shooters. Its unlikely your gonna find one. If u must search some basic concepts first (Vcams, shooting, enemys, etc) then try and chop, change, and put together
Here in Australia nobody does it which meant i never got to do it :( hahaha. When the a kid does come over though i just dont answer the door hahaha.
At 10/24/09 05:22 AM, Logidude wrote: I got no lag! Plus don't post the code yet until you are finished or else people will steal it. But you can still get people to help you with it. i think it is pretty awesome and that it can also be a first person type game, with the camera lower and all.....
Hahaha yeah if i have to post any code ill post extracts, i think ill be able to work most of it out anyway
With First-Person, i reckon that would be awesome, but i just dont know if id be able to set up a godd enough collision for it to work :(
Sorry forgot to say the controls for the DEMO are :
Arrow Keys ---------- :D
Ok so i had a Code brainwave today and worked out some code to start implementing some simple 3D objects inside my game. It works similar to DOOM, in which objects which have no need (e.g., the room itself) are made using 3D, and Objects which can be interacted with (eg enemies, acid barrels) are made to look same from every side. I thought i could get u guys to check it out, possibly help with a couple o things. PS i made this in AS2 so im kinda surprised it worked hahahaha.

STUFF IVE DONE:
- Made 'tiles' to be used to make inanimate terrain
- Made objects which can be interacted with (Not Integrated in DEMO SUPPLIED)
STUFF TO DO:
---- STUFF I NEED SOME OF YOU GUYS TO POSSIBLY HELP WITH
- Texture the 3D 'tiles'
- add a character which the camera follows
- Fix Depth problems
- Fix Speed (Ive experienced some lagging after a bit of messing around on the demo, if u experience this too please say so)
- Constraints / boundaries
NOTE - Demo is made to be 3rd person, not 1st, but I have not placed a visible character in it yet.
NOTE2 - Really need some tips for stopping this from lagging :D
Note3 - Constructive Criticism thanks
Note4 - I HAVE BUILT THE ENTIRE ENGINE FROM SCRATCH :D
NOTE5 - Id love for you to give me as much information u can about what u like, what u dont, and any glitches
THANKS

What is there to beat me? Congrats u made a worse engine than mine (3x more code, doesn't lie steady on the grond, magnet isn't 3D, later finished, one less library item but no shadow). I dont c y u won.
Try make that voiding grid like in gridwars if u want a real challange.
HAHAHA jesus dude cant you take a joke :P hahaha
1) More code because of bad coding practices :( hahaha
2) Magnetism in life doesnt create elasticity effects like urs, but i guess in flash its wat we were looking for wasnt it? Anyways mine wasnt even close to magnetism anyway so hahahaha
3) Later date as i only found thread late one night while the wind was blowing and it was dark outside, with branches scratching against my window.... yeah....
4) Shadow is just some little add on, not required. Had it before but killed it cos thought it looked gay :(
5) I HAVE NO IDEA WAT A VOIDING GRID IS :( hahaha
6) PM me if u wanna different challenge later on down the track. Something i can actually inderstand :)hahaha. BTW i wont be able to do any challenges at the moment but PM me anytime you want a challenge and ill try to responds :D
7) ILY
8) Yeah.......

Hahaha really. Lol thanks man. Its funny cos i made the thing in a couple of hours and got frontpaged, made some money. Tis all good :D. And yeah it wasnt 3D cos it wasnt, it was just using 2D graphics like the 3D ball :D. Real 3D in flash requires C++ and Alchemy dont it? If anyone knows otherwise drop me a PM. Anyways thanks man :D
Done my 3D room with magnet. Was pretty easy. Only 4 library items :D but there was heaps of code (200+), well for a couple hours work. Anyways instructions are at start but:
- Arrow keys - move ball
- Space - jump
- mouseDown - Magnetise towards you
Yeah the magnet thing was stupid cos i couldnt think of another way to do it but yeah there is a little magnetism. Anyways here it is http://spamtheweb.com/ul/upload/3109/645 99_3D_ROOM_DEMO.swf
PS Vexagon i beat you :D hahaha. Ur a good coder, lets do more battles sometime :D
PPS AS2
Working on 3D one. Not hard, only thing difficult is working out which way to control the ball. I know the code but how to execute it is confusing me ;( hahaha
PS for anyone else ive done it so arrow keys can move ball on x, z axis and jump along y, but on mousepress is attracted to camera and mouse position :)
