Thanks Andy I'll try the .exe idea. I would do the Spamtheweb idea but I've seen the site before and I don't want others to see the animation; unless you could set it to private?, but I don't think you can.

Thanks again for the replies.

SWF question need your help plz Posted October 30th, 2008 in Game Development

Is it possible for me to email a .swf to my friend and he can view the animation even though he doesn't have the Flash program on his computer??? Like can he just download the Flash plug-ins or something???

Thanks in advance guys!

Calling in a favor from you guys!!! Posted October 28th, 2008 in Audio

I've been a musicain (guitar, bass, drums, and some piano) for the past 4 years but I know jack squat when it comes to getting my music from my instruments and amps and such to my computer. I know I could use open mics and record it live but I don't want to do that.

What devices/equipment to you guys suggest that I buy/invest in to record my songs?

Any help and insight would be tremendously appreciated cuz like I said I am completely clueless about it all!

Thanks in advance guys you rock!!!

Response to: Can you add atmosphere to my flash? Posted October 28th, 2008 in Audio

Fuck I wish I didn't burn out my audio equipment cuz I would have loved to do all the audio for this :( Good luck dude I'm sure someone will do it cuz it's a nice short animation. Or maybe I'm just attracted to all things dark haha

Response to: Can you get payed for flash games? Posted October 28th, 2008 in Game Development

If you're stripped for cash you still screwed cuz you would have to make a really great game which would take you quite some time to make. But yes, it is possible. Sites can sponsor you if you make Flash games for their sites or if you have your own site post you can post your games there and get other Flash game sites to pay you to put ads for their sites on yours (affiliates).

Good luck cuz I'm working towards the same thing haha Get crackin' on that ActionScript lol

Response to: few questions about sprites&scripts Posted October 28th, 2008 in Game Development

1. When making a symbol(for walking) do you have to keep repeating the walking motion? or is there a way to make it repeat in the motion tween. Ex. When I tried it would have him stand, start walk,end walk, then redo that. How do I fix that?

2. Does any1 know of a site with actionscripts(that is easy to find the ones your looking for)?

3. When making a menu how do I make it stay at that screen instead of going on?

BTW. if there is any1 that is willing to teach me personally i will be more than thankful

1. Just have a seperate MC(movie clip) of him standing, one of it walking. That way you just use the standing one for the start and end and then you can just use the walk MC as long as you want in between the two (on seperate keyframes, of course)

2. Check out this Flash tutorial here on Newgrounds:

and also check out www.flashkit.com

3. On the first frame of the menu screen put an ActionScript stop(); command on that first frame. Really you should always create a layer called actions and place it at the top of all layers and use it for ActionScript commands.

To answer your last question no will probably want to teach you everything personally unless you offered to pay them since time is money. But there is so much available resources out there, including this forumn, that you'll manage just fine dude.

Hope this helped.

Good luck!

*Bump*

I was testing the website Weebly.com to just upload and play SWF's on there web creation site.

Here's the link:

http://livelifeproduction.weebly.com/

Go to the site, click Download File, it takes just a sec, and the window reloads and plays the movie but it's too big (out of proportion, not in the 550x400 made in Flash8). How do I fix this cuz I know you can?You'll just have to do what's mention above to see what I'm talking about but I would really appreciate some feedback guys!

Thank you!

I had issues doing so a while back and I was told to simply change the audio settings to 'stream'

Stupid me figured out how to do this just now and I've applied it to every sound in the toon so far.

My issue is in that changing the audio to stream makes my preview jittery, frames wont go by as smoothly as they did when it was set to 'event'.

anyone know if there is anything should be doing?

all my sound clips are .wav's with the exception of one .mp3 , If that's of any help.

thanks in advance.
well, flash is busy with drawing your game ánd loading your songs. Make them smaller would help I think.(go to the library, click on the song, and change the audio-exportsettings, such as bitrate and compression.)

That won't work. You can still sync your animation with the audio (music, voice, etc.) and have it set to Event. Setting to stream will only cause your animation to skip if the animation is heavy.

Create different color palettes in Flash 8 and if so how?

Thanks guys!

vCam/Blur miscommunication? Posted October 18th, 2008 in Game Development

So in my animation I have the background as a movie clip and it made it blurred. When I have the vCam over it, it shows blurred when I run the movie. But when I shrink the vCam (aka a more zoom) nothing is blurred.

You guys ever notice that? Anyway to fix it?

Thanks as always guys!

i know it's full of art......heavy art, but wth....it's only 1000 frames.
the FLA is about 15 megs.....saved with compact it's about 9
so as ppl who have acutally done shit before, is that a normal size for an FLA?
also.....i'm using movie clips for everything....and graphics for some (since i only started acknowledging them recently)......should i convert all the ones that dont have effects to grafix or does it make no difference??.......tips plz

15 megs?! Damn dude learn to optimize your audio (if you have any) and try not to go overboard with gradients, filters, and other transition effects (tweens are fine). If you have a ton of movie clips on screen at the same time it could do some lag. To answer your question, converting ones without effects to graphics won't make a difference. Dude I think you just need to lay off the effects cuz to be up to 15mg is just huge.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

That sounds like the best option. Both in terms of performance, and amount of work.

Blur effect question please! Posted October 15th, 2008 in Game Development

I want to make all the objects in multiple layers blur for awhile and I'll eventually tween them to focus. Do I really have to do a blur effect for each MC or is it possible to create a MC, that covers all MC on lower layers, on a layer above the layers I want blurred and just put a blur filter on the top layer MC???

I tried this but failed.

Or should I condense all my layers into one MC so it blurs it all for this one specific shot and just return them to seperate layers when I now longer need the blur effect???

Hope that made sense.

Thanks in advance guys!

Flash Web Player Posted October 15th, 2008 in Game Development

How do you take your animation and put it into a movie player format on your website? Much like coming to Newgrounds and being able to watch animations and interact with games.

Wasn't sure if this should of been posted in the programming forumn...

Thanks in advance guys!

Color Q please Posted October 15th, 2008 in Game Development

I'm no artist but how is it that artists like for Adam Phillips (Chlaud), for example, have such glossy, vibrant colors in there animations? Are they using the color palette that comes with flash and just really good with shading or are they using after effects like Photoshop or what not?

I've always wanted to know and you guys know everything lol :P

Thanks guys!

Output error for sound item??? Posted October 12th, 2008 in Game Development

SWF contains multiple copies of a sound item. This is what the Output menu says when I test my animation with Ctrl+Enter. Movie works great and all but I've never had this pop up in any of my animations before. I do use a lot of the same sounds over in the animation on different layers and frames throughtout the movie like I have done in the past.

Any insight cuz I'm curious?

Thanks guys!

Response to: Question for you tech junkies. Help Posted October 12th, 2008 in Game Development

Flash Player 7

I'm using FireFTP through Mozilla (duh) to upload a published Flash movie to a website. But when I publish the movie it only gives me the .SWF and .HTML and not the AC_RunActiveContent.js which is a Java Script file that helps a Flash run better on Internet Explorer browser.

Any idea how to get this to happen? I know I probably need to edit the Publish Settings but not sure what to edit.

Thanks guys! >_<

Response to: can't add crosshairs to scope(mask) Posted October 6th, 2008 in Game Development

Ok so on the mask symbol which is just a circle for the scope I add a second layer with crosshairs and now the mask works great but now I can't see the crosshairs........

I'm new to making action script but learning through a bood I learned how to make a basic Flash game where you look through a scope that's masking the background and try to find the objective and click it to win. Simple game that took me hours to get through the coding in the book to understand it. I get it now. So I decided to make a sniper game with this same concept but when I add crosshairs to the circle shape movie clip that was the scope (mask) and test the game it gets way weird in ways I can't explain cuz the mask leaves a trail wherever I move my mouse and smears it.

Long ass explanation. Sorry. What am I doing wrong when I add crosshairs. Here's my code:

function startGame():Void
{
scope_mc.startDrag(true);
Mouse.hide();
all_mc.setMask(scope_mc);
}

startGame();

This is just the very beginning stages but the mask should already work by now.
