Do you mean a background with a picture of an arcade with slot machines, or a background that looks like it belongs in an arcade game?

You can only be thrown in jail for breaking the law. Posting sensitive information, or uploading child pornography, bestiality, etc, will get you in trouble eventually.
Also, the lines are a bit vague or seemingly nonsensical on certain fields, theShadling got in trouble for posting some of his drawings.
Basically, don't break any laws and you won't go to jail, don't break any site rules and you won't get banned.
Everyone just give up
Jaga has so much amazing stuff going on it's ridiculous.
A small bunch of people would be hurt if I didn't. I don't want to hurt those people.
The 40 bottles of homebrew are of some help, but that's reserved for the worst days.
In the beginning of auto-mobiles, american car owners had a pretty rough time.
The Farmers Anti-Automobile Association Pennsylvania had a whole list of requirements for motorists:
"Auto mobiles travelling on country road at night must send up a rocket every mile, wait ten minutes for the road to clear, the driver may then proceed with caution, blowing his horn, and shooting up roman candles."
"If a driver sees a team of horses approaching he is to stop, pull the car over to the side of the road, and cover his machine with a dust cover made to blend with the surroundings.
In the case of a horse being unwilling to pass the car, the driver must put the machine apart as rapidly as possible and conceal the parts in the bushes."

Youtube is a bit more generous with their paychecks, and they can be because it's run by fucking Google. I imagine they make sure it's always more money for new artists to be youtube exclusive. So unless the artists are super patriotic about their websites or communities, they'll most likely go for youtube.
Of course, all that is on top of YouTube being a hugely famous website, and the go-to place for people wanting to upload videos.

Lowering population springs to mind, though one would have to blow off about half the globe to make any major impact and I imagine people would get a bit pissy.
You could always commit genocide and brand the victims as terrorists, seems to work well for the US government.

Around 1830 - in a time before general anaesthetics - there was a surgical assistant called James Esdaile who used hypnotic trance as an anaesthetic with great success!
Though I don't know about any more recent studies on hypnosis as an anaesthetic, it really suggests the idea that pain is purely imaginative and that given a certain state of mind it can be completely and perfectly ignored.
There is a tribe in New Guinea called the Korowai, which up to 1970 didn't know there there existed other people than themselves.
They live exclusively in tree-houses in which they bring their pets and everything, and generally build a new one every 3-5 years. They have a sort of "housewarming party" when they build a new house, and part of that tradition is lighting a ceremonial fire inside the house.

I believe generally artists get their income less from purchases of their albums, and more from concerts and stuff like that. If that's true, it's the fat cats that gets hurt by piracy more than the artists.
I don't know if that's universally true, but it certainly is the case for my uncle and his band.
Not saying piracy is right, or even okay for that matter, just that at least it doesn't hurt the artists' income as badly.

Well, this is not so much local as national, and possibly international, but when you see this brand it means you're probably in for a treat.
It's brewed in Norway, but I think it exists outside our borders as well.
I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "music of the future".
It's cool that it may have been a NG artist who started it but it doesn't really sound all that innovative if you ask me.
Global warming is not a myth, the debate is whether or not humans played a part in it, and on what scale.
I think among the most practical candidates are the constructed languages, and perhaps more specifically Esperanto. Apparently it has no irregular inflections, and seems heavily influenced by French, Polish, German, and Russian.
From the wiki:
"Zamenhof's goal was to create an easy-to-learn, politically neutral language that would transcend nationality and foster peace and international understanding between people with different languages."
Though to be realistic, an uniform language is probably not gonna happen anytime soon. Mostly because people, as you mentioned, want to preserve culture. If it were to happen anyway, I imagine it would start with either countries surrounding China adopting Chinese as their official language, or countries in EU adopting English.
I'm not sure we need a unified language for everyone to use anyway. English works well as lingua franca, without people having to abandon their native languages. Besides, space faring is millenniums from happening anyway.

I guess it's a bit more moody at night? The screen may light up the room more dramatically with aggressive glitches and whatnot? Perhaps more attention is drawn towards the screen when the rest is obscured by shadows so as to create a stronger pattern interrupt?
It's probably a bit subjective as well, and varying from person to person.
Maybe a part of it is the idea of losing control.
Seeing as video games tends to put you in charge of a character, in a world which responds more or less as you'd expect. In loose terms, one might say one goes into a sort of pattern where pressing buttons responds with an expected behaviour.
In other words it may create a pattern interrupt, which can be unsettling.
