One last thing is that if you run to the right enough the screen goes completely white.
Also, nice job on the pseudo-3D effect, especially with the ground around the fire/tree stumps.
This demo is awesome.
Anyways, I played it for a bit, and I quite like the animation, the art looks fantastic, and the little dust clouds when you run are a nice touch. The only thing i noticed was that you can't attack while you run. Is this on purpose or not? Not sure if i would affect the game at all, unless enemies are constantly moving backwards or something.
A couple suggestions - More than one spell and weapon? Not sure if this is more RPG-ish then you would like to make, but a different variety of swords, (dagger=fast, low damage, axe=slow, high damage, ect, ect)
And maybe some ranged spells. I'm also assuming you haven't got around to making the mana/health bars dynamic yet, and they're not just broken.
All in all it looks very polished and promising though, and I can wait to see the finished thing.

Is it worth moving on from AS2 to AS3 before you've mastered (ish) AS2?

Well macromedia and flash and all that are he same thing - Flash, just different versions. The newest is CS4 i think, so if your serious about animating/programming then I would go with that, otherwise you can get a cheaper older version off amazon or something.

No there are some in every new release that can be sold for quite a bit. Some individual cards can sell for $30 when they are brand new, and old rare ones can go for more to a collecter
