The question is, why should a person be taxed twice for owning a successful stock? It undermines capitalism because in essence, the government is saying "If you're successful in the market you're going to get taxed again." This disuades the general person from getting into the stock exchange because they know they'll lose money if they strike it big. Not very fair, eh?
