bad luck with views or time creation? Only one person besides me read this. I'm bumping it, probably some attention whore side of me. I should probably just let it go and go to bed, but I thought maybe someone might have something to say on the subject...

Blinded by Reflections Posted August 5th, 2006 in General

Have you ever noticed how few people really realize what they are?

There are so many people out there that think they are perfect but just don't realize how stupid or hated or whatever else it may be that they are. (I'm probably included).

I've seen how blind a pompous attitude can make someone. My family has a horrible history of giving out advice but never taking any. Here on the bbs we see time and time again people who think they are so right that they can't take constructive criticism, and no I'm not talking about mods (though some probably fit into this, everyone does at somepoint).

If I truly had a pet pieve, it would be this right here. I can't stand people who see faults in others, but can't recognize them in themselves.

It iss the only one of his I actually laughed at. It was good. Meanwhile Anchorman left me without a smile the entire time. This one had me cracking up about five minutes into the movie.

If you get the chance, it isn't the best movie of the year, but its good for a laugh.

I enjoy the game a lot, and everyone should play it if they get the chance. If you truly hate it, fine. But people who hate the game just because its "lame" or they don't want to look foolish are a little shallow.

I need to get back into it, I can still play heavy, but not as well as I used to be able to...

However, lets say the Senate ends up passing the bill, and the inevitable Supreme Court case declares the law constitutional. Then what? All this means is that certain sites will load faster then others. Lets say Yahoo wants to take down google, so they pay all the ISP's to make it slower: we're only talking about a five second delay here, the whole point is to make it seem like the website itself, and NOT the ISP is shitty. Not to mention that VERY few companies have enough money to pay every single internet sevice provider, meaning that if your favorite sites are going slower you can just switch to a new one. Plus the chances are that there will be at least one ISP, possibly even created for that sole purpouse, who will refuse the practice all together and reject legalized bribes in exchange for happy customers."

But if only one isp is allowing a site to be seen it will still be hurt because the majority of citizens who use the internet won't know the difference. Letting it happen because someone might do something about it and like their customers is trivial bullshit. Any company that has the power to control what its viewers see isn't going to care what they want because ultimatly they control what their customers like. There in lies the problem. It would be like watching the same shitty re-runs over and over again on tv because its the same people who want to run the internet.

From an old post. Stop getting your panties in a bunch, this is like all the black people who see that the Voters Rights Act is up for re-instatement in 2007 and start going "lame etalk to try and undercut my position"

But its not like that because this is actually happening. Most of your points are moot.

I'd disagree, Judaism does use some fear tactics, but very little of it has to do with how you spend the rest of eternity, actually, none of it has to do with that. The reason for this is that Judaism focuses on Life. Therefor, since our religion doesn't say anything about after death and life is the supreme gift of god, death is the punishment and what you should "fear". Of course we are also taught not to fear death. But if you do something wrong, the thought is that your life is shortened by god on the day of attonement or Yom Kippur which happens once every year.

We don't pray to go to heaven, we pray to be inscribed in the book of life, to be able to continue to live. And since a majority of the laws of judaism (judaism is an orthopraxy not an orthodoxy) are moral guidelines for everyday society, I've yet to see a reason to leave them behind, whether or not god exists.

I'd even argue that such fear tactics don't originate in religion, nor are they evil. Look at the government. If you do something wrong you go to jail or are possibly put to death. Look at this bbs, if you do something wrong, you get banned. I personally think its acceptable in religion so long as you don't take it to extremes to the point where people are committing suicide or murdering others for their beliefs.

Never leave your home again!

Its a cyber school that is a public school supported by the state of Pensylvania. Those who enroll get a free computer and don't have to pay anything more than their normal taxes to the state. K-12.

Now this sounds great for kids who might be disabled or something like that, but I think the social stigmatism of never interacting with anyone in the real world would actually hurt you and your ability to do anything in later life. When a chatroom, pictures, and movies are your only medium for learning, how much can you really accomplish?

This is even worse than home school. Home school I don't have a problem with because parents provide social interaction and generally still make sure their kids go outside and meet other kids and participate in other activities. But this... this is just putting a stamp on the back of your child's head that says "Social Recluse"

Plus the advertise it on the radio and tv like its a business. Something just seems off.

I'm working with a bunch of software people till the end of the summer, and one of them recently got a new mouse. They were extremely excited about it being wireless and having recharchable batteries. Then they wanted to come up with a cool nickname for it so the guy who baught it asked what the german name for mouse was.

"Maus" I replied in an offhand fashion. Then they looked at me funny because it came so quickly. Not knowing another word in german I made up some screwy excuse to avoid letting them know of my galvanting adventures on the bbs.

Mayhaps I've spent too much time here.

The real reason I'm making this topic though is because I'm getting paranoid about the whole thing. Granted I live in Pennsylvania, but my girlfriend spends time in Arizona. In fact she is heading back there this weekend after a vacation with her parents.

She has the tendency to leave her house at night when she gets depressed, and I'd rather not see anything happen to her for logical reasons... I havn't followed up on it entirely, but for once I'm probably going to be watching the news everynight this summer.

Weaving, waving, whirling about
It
Chancing, changing, churning doubt
All
Is lost in reason, insanity's season
Never a chance to get out

You're end you'll find
When you lose your mind
The beginning is ever calling you "never"
Pasts' cruelness is always kind

Identity's logical conclusion
Turns out your delusion
For what you seek, is to abysmally week
To ever clear your confusion

It’s a lost and found
A cacophony of silent sound
Break free if you try, it is only a lie
That keeps you bobbling around

well written, sick, twisted, almost perfect for the bbs. And yes, Earfetish does have a rival now. And one who isn't that worried about writing a lot. I'm sure you'll get an onslaught of tldrs, but if I were you I'd ignore them.

The only thing that desturbs me about this piece and about earfetish's pieces is the subject matter. I recognize the writing talent involved and I appreciate it. I also recognize shocking people is almost the only way to get their attention over the internet. The one thing I hope out of all of this is that it is purely make believe and has no grounding in truth. But they say authors write what they know. Its almost standard in all cases and the better you know something the better you write about it.

In all likely hood this is just some sort of fantasy, if it does have some grounding in your life. I hope it stays that way.

Like I said, well written, but not my taste in story.

Have you not read a single post in this bbs. I'm absolutly positive you could top this. You just have to push the right buttons and find someone gullible. The more questions you ask, the further you lead them into their imagination...

Anyway, just the stupidity level of the bbs convinces me its possible to top this. The moral implications and guaranteed ride to hell that would be involved with topping this scare me a bit, but it could be done. :)

That said, this is still fucking hilarious and always will be. I can't believe the kid trashed his house over an internet thread.

I'd love to watch the movie, but unfortunatly it relies on javascript and I can't open the movie to watch due to my internet connection being aol, hence part of the reason why I havn't even deposited this summer let alone reviewed a movie. I saw part of it at work, no sound, and it looked alright, but I have a feeling that the music finishes it off. I hope in this site upgrade you fix that, similarly I can't view profile windows without visiting the url directly because it relies on javascript to open

Canas, next time make sure you get dead aim or a similar program. Those programs save all your aim conversations as they take place so you can look back and see who you talked to when and what you said what. I unfortunatly was using standard aol so I didn't get any of them saved either, but they are still out there.

I think it would be a resource drain. That kind of tool has to search every word and make sure it is in a dictionary, and then you have to couple it with how many users accessing it a second... I wouldn't want to be liljim for that one.

As for people not spelling things correctly, I can forgive one or two mistakes. If almost everyword in a sentance is illegible then I don't care very often to find out what it says and I move on. If it was really important they would have taken the time to spell it right, since it isn't improtant to them, it isn't important to me.

TV, fridge and microwave are probably not included in the room. You should check on that.

The rest depeneds on geography and what you like to do.

Up north? Bring lots of hoodies.

Down south? Sunscreen.

It all depends, as for room accessories, its always nice to have a fan, a desk lamp. Make sure you grab plenty of pencils and pens. Bring ducktape, you'll always find a use for duck tape. Bring some posters for your room to spice it up. If your room is going to be tiled you'll probably want to get a rug of some kind. Grabbing some fold up chairs makes it easier to have guests over and then you can stow them under your bed.

Also, bring a gaming system and extra controllers if you like to game, its a good way to make friends if you are playing a multiplayer game that they like as well.

As far as food and snaks. RAMEN RAMEN RAMEN! Everyone eats ramen in college. I've even seen some guys try to live off the stuff to save money. Not extremly healthy though. Also, depending on whether you are breakfast guy and how close to the eateries you are, you might want to consider bringing something to munch on on your way to your first class.

Most importantly though, of everything. "ALARM CLOCK" There is nothing worse than sleeping in. As for sheets and stuff, thats all up to you. Just bring the proper equipment for the region. If you are going to a place that tends to snow, buy boots because you are probably doing a lot of walking.

Key things? Ducktape, Raman, Alarm Clock
