not being from both decade (born in 90's but don't consider myself a 90's kid) I've looked at stuff from both decades. and to me, the 80's stuff looked better because they had actual MATURE movies like this.

Here's an actual fact. Children's programming was at it's finest in the 90s.
Care to explain why without factoring in nostalgia in at all?
Cartoons were still hand=drawn, and the medium still had creativity. Now, children's tv is full of crap, and serves more as mind-fodder.

The type of animation it is in doesn't make it look better, for those biased people against 3d animation, you have much more potential to create much more creative and fluid animation than with 2d, just look at that film festival that Mike Judge had. or some of pixar's movies.

and how was it creative, most 90's cartoons folowed the plot of old cartoons like Tom & Jerry (characters fighting each other) but with more of a sitcom feel to it. They were not that original, and some like EE&E were just ripped off other shows like the three stooges. The only "original, creative" cartoons I have seen is probably CTCG, FHFIF, and Adventure Time ( omg! he said a modern cartoon thats not mlp was good!!!111 circlejerk him!!!!)

and how was it crap? that's all you said? can you give some evidence on to how it is crap? and cartoons have almost always been mindfodder, especially some of the first one made by Walt Disney, the WB, and William-Barbara.

except most of them don't remember it, and they DO refer to those events.

I wasn't even talking about the cartoons in general I was talking about kids who think "oh the 90's rocked, the economy rocked, the president rocked, etc. etc. when they don't even remmber it. for some reason ng derailed my thread into cartoons.

I've noticed that some shows are doing this now to be 'edgy' and 'in'. Memes belong in the internet, not in TV. Not only are most of them mis-used in that cartoon, kids will probably see this and use it in everyday life, thus ruining the meme totally. I swear, by the time I go back to highschool in two weeks, 1/4 the school will be wearing Umad, Problem?, trollface, awesome face, cool story, and true story shirts. Not knowing the true meanings or origins, just following the crowd trying to be cool. I don't even know who introduced memes to my school.

They already do in my school.

when we came back the seniors made a video to try and welcome juniors to come into the school, and it spammed the "swag" and "yolo" meme so much it was annoying and stupid. now everybody won't stop joking about it and it's only been two days and god it's annoying. I also hate how adults think all kids do in this region is type like an illerate idiot. they might be biased but i don't type like;

"o mn wnt 2 b on a d8 wth me bby?/ xdddddddd" god, bias from adults is annoying.

even worse, though. an aquuitance I know on another forum wore a freakin' dolan shirt to school. good thing he lived far away from me.

"90's kids" Posted August 19th, 2012 in General

A vast majority of people I know in real life and across the internet have all said one thing.

"hey dude, remmebered the 90's? they rocked so hard"

Here is a little rant.

For most people. You AREN'T a 90's kid. unless you were born before 1994 you aren't. want to know why? memories. ya. when you're a baby. sure, you watch cartoons, but guess what? the average human doesn't start getting their first memories until they're around the age of 4 or 5. and those memories usually get hazier and hazier as you grow, usually only remaining are tiny snippits, like going to school on your first day. or meeting your best friend you know for the first time in real life. the point is, most people, even though they were born in the 90's can barely remember it or not at all. so they should stop preaching if you were not born before 1994 because you have no idea what you're talking about. it pisses me off when people get on their nostaliga goggles and do nothing but take a stroll down non-existeent memory lane. when THEY COULD do something useful and try to make the present better.

Response to: Today's Cartoons? Posted August 19th, 2012 in General

:It isn't any better than 2D animation, infact it is worse as the 3D actually ends up limiting the animation, where they would add more detail and subtle extras and fluent animation instead they focus on making all the spheres and cubes and before you know it it's completely bland and just looks the same as all the other scenes with no variety.

and? you are judging 3D animation by one or two shows. that doesn't make the vast majority... Maybe if you actually took the time to look at some good ones like wall-e instead of looking at low-budget shows aimed at 5 YEAR OLDS like straw berry shortcake you would understand 3d animation isn't bad.

3d animation IS better than 2d animation, it is more advanced and since it is 3d it allows people to be more creative in their animations. Stop generalizing a whole type of art by two or three low-budget baby shows.

also, I don't like The Fairly Oddparents that much.

The 3D cartoons look completely shit imo and aren't as smooth or as interesting or nice to look at, it is just animators wanking off instead of actually having a decent cartoon.

Take My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic for an example, that is made 2D in flash, that doesn't stop them making the show amazing using that technology even having very good panning 3D effect scenes added in etc.But this type of animation is far nicer to watch. Yes it takes less effort and cost to make, but it is BETTER, why they keep making shit 3D ones I don't know, I wish they came to their senses and kept to 2D flash.

1: There is nothing wrong with animating in 3D. If anything you're just finding anything different about a cartoon that you don't like and compare it to you favorite, which for some reason is mlp, and call it a sham.

2: mlp isn't "amazing" I don't get why so many people are bronies, must be the new counter-culture reddit fad.

but hey being sexist to women and racist to black people is alright as long as the cartoon is from before 1970 because of nastalgical bias, right?

Response to: Today's Cartoons? Posted August 19th, 2012 in General

I don't think you know what you're talking about. There are several cartoons that still do those sort of "mature" themes

for example, Adventure time makes several references to nuclear war. which is sort of ish "mature".

The EE&E movie from two years ago had a reference to the word "sex"

nightosphere from Adventure time is more or less a reference to Hell.

and a strong one came from me watching a new Spongebob episode today out of sheer boredom. Which is pretty recent (year less wise) and had a reference to suicide in it. Squidward about to hang himself with a noose or so that's what it looked like but it was a bird cage.

There are several other examples, but I am too lazy to dig through them.

also, these kind of themes don't make a show great or mature. what makes a cartoon like that is if it is creative, original and has intelligent humor, and the only cartoon I have seen that does that perfectly would be Courage the Cowardly Dog.
