I use English, not American English, honour is an except to your rule. It's Honour, the way you pronounce it makes it honour. Americans pronounce honour wrong and that is why you spell it honor.

English originated from old english which is a change from North German. French and Latin syllables was added when the Normans captured the English throne. True, it is about spelling, so I'll give you a point.
