Problems with SharedObject? Posted September 27th, 2014 in Game Development

I was looking into making save-states and read about and found SharedObject.

But I'm always getting this error:

TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "[object SharedObject]1" to flash.net.SharedObject.
at Untitled_fla::MainTimeline/enterFrameEvent()

Here is my code:

stop();
var savedstuff:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("myStuff");
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, enterFrameEvent);
function enterFrameEvent (event:Event){
	savedstuff += 1;
	trace (savedstuff);

}
bootoon.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clicks);
function clicks (event:MouseEvent){
	gotoAndStop(2);
}

How to add medals to your game? Posted September 26th, 2014 in Game Development

I've looked through the newgrounds thing and downloaded the the correct file and got my encryption key, etc. But I'm confused. I don't want the NG preloader. What can I do so I can have medals in my games without anything else?

Can someone give a laymen's step-by-step guide.

All answers appreciated.

Ng Api Integration? Posted September 19th, 2014 in Game Development

I'm not currently in need of adding the badge at the moment, but I am curious on the subject for the future. Say if I wanted a variable to reach a number for a medal to unlock, how would I go about doing that?

for example:

var amountOfCucumbers:Number = 0;

if (something happens) {
amountOfCucumber += 1
}
if (amountOfCucumbers >= 5) {
What would I put here to make a medal 'happen'?
}

Did you make sure to make the loading bar a movie clip and set the name in box in the top right to loadingBar?

For videos: 1920x1080 or 1280x720
For games: I like 960x540, but depends on what screen shape/size your game requires.

Clearly. That was, after all, a perfectly constructed ellipses.

I really do hate when people use 2 or 4 ellipses.

Building a pc from spare parts! Posted September 19th, 2014 in General

This is my last thread today... I know it's getting spammy...

Someone handed me a box of computer parts, including essentially everything you need to build one, I was told to take what I want. So I collected about 5gb ram through like 10 chips, a 512mb graphics card (wasn't labelled beyond that), a generic computer case, one lga socket motherboard (I think it's lga, also has 4 dual memory ram slots), old keyboard, bunch of screws, 4 fans, 2 heatsinks, 2 cpus, 4 hard drives (2x 160gb, 2x 40gb with the possibility of having an os), 2 psu's (500w and 270w) and miscellaneous sata cables and dvd drives.

What should I do? Buy extra parts, build 2 computers and sell one, pool all into one pc and keep the rest as spares?
This isn't going to be my permanent rig, just gonna use it as a temp and for practice (of building pc's). Also worth noting both motherboards have the video output, so integrated graphics right?

What users do you see frequently that make you go 'I don't like who you are, what you do or how you do it'.

Also, quick grammer question, is it -'blah.'- or -'blah'.-

Also also: I need to stop treating newgrounds like reddit.

Do not buy apple and DO NOT buy alienware, the cheapest place to get it online is a custom build site like cyberpowersystems, and it's even cheaper to build your own.

Have 2 frames, frame 1 is preloader, frame 2 is play button (optional).

stop();
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, frameChecker);
function frameChecker (event:Event):void{
	var loaded:Number = this.loaderInfo.bytesLoaded;
	var total:Number = this.loaderInfo.bytesTotal;
	loadingBar.scaleX = loaded/total;
	if (loaded == total){
		removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, frameChecker);
		gotoAndStop(frame_you_want);
	}
}
