Anyways, this is a self portrait that I did. It's been a few years since I last did a self portrait so I thought it was about time. Again, this was a practice piece. I did it rather quickly and it's not supposed to look super realistic. I kept the shading very loose on this one. I've been loving these drawings on tinted paper lately. For these I use graphite pencils and a white colored pencils to heighten highlights. I hope you like it :)

LOL...why?? Well, I'm not entirely sure why I love realism. It's a constant drive that I've had since I started to one up the last work that I did. I want to get to the point that people don't believe they are drawings. I like observing things as they really exist. Every drawing I do I feel like I study the person or object. When I'm done with the drawing I'm an expert on how that person or object exists visually. There is some artistic lisence that is applied to my drawings. I'm not very strict with reference pictures. I remember my first attempt at realism. It was horrible...but after I finished that drawing I wanted to do it better. I've had that same mentality ever since.
Thank you for the critiques everyone. I appreciate the help :)

Hi guys. I put my nose to the gridstone the past few days and finished something new. It's rare for me to finish a drawing in just a few days. This is a portrait of my beautiful girlfriend, Melissa. I did this drawing as a practice piece. I love drawing on toned paper like this and it was a nice change of pace from commission works. I referenced a picture that I took of her from the other day when she was playing Guitar Hero..lol. She doesn't like it when I take pictures of her so I did it when she was preoccupied with something else. I do want to do many more drawings of her so I will work on getting more pictures to work from. :)
