The answer is: No, you can only use pitch black and that shade of red. (Bright red, #FF0000 in case you didn't know).
It is more important that your game is in one scene.

Oh, and .fla's are edititable, but I won't edit them. I need them so I can put it all together in one file. SWF's won't work because you lose all the scripting when you import it.

Don't worry, you will get full credit if you are put in the final version (I might pick more than 4 winners, I'll take all good ones) And I won't take your hard work if you win or don't win. I will get rid of the files after I'm done with them, so there's no worry. If you lose, go ahead and submit your game not as part of mine. But there's a better chance of getting a high rating if we all put work into it. Ever see "Newgrounds Showcase"? or "The 5 Shades of Green"? Those were all minis by multiple authors.

How good are you at making games? Well, this contest is one I am hosting. The winners will be featured in a collection of minigames called "Red & Black". Here are the rules.

1. You can only use 2 colors, red and black.

2. It has to be an arcade-style game, with a scoring system.

3. There has to be sound in it. That is, sound effects and background music.

4. Don't put a preloader in. I will do that when it comes time to put the winners together.

5. Run it at 24 FPS

6. Keep the window at 550 by 400 (deafult setting)

7. Make it a 1-scene game. Don't use multiple scenes for win screens and lose screens.

8. Give your game a 1-frame title screen.

There. Those are the rules. The most important one being only use red and black. no white. Does anyone here want to enter? Send your .fla's to glaielgamesmail@comcast.net. I will put 4 winners and myself in the final version. They will all get their names under authors.

If your movie is default width, (550) here's what you use. First make sure that the walls you want are EXACTLY at the edge of the screen. Then make sure the player is centered in his movieclip.

This code goes in your movieclip

That should work.

First, right-click or control-click on the sound in the library. Click on "Linkage" and check "expore for actionscript". Name it Sound1

Paste the following code in your button

Fill in italcazed text with numbers. Start time refers to where in the track the sound will start playing. This code can be modified and used for SFX in games, too.

Ok, I am the one who made the game, so I will give a lot of hints!

White enemy bullets home in on you, but they dissapear eventually. Keep dodging them.

At 10000 points, a big enemy boss comes in very slowly and takes a lot of hits. The best shot for this gut is triple shot. He comes in every 15000 points after that.

ALWAYS GO FOR YELLOW POWER CORES! They increase your shot power. 8-Way Shot (6 Power Cores) = Killing Machine

Green Power Cores are Rapid Fire. You can hold the space bar and it will rapidly fire rounds of bullets.

Red Power Cores are health ups. There is no limit to health, so grab them even if you have 10 health.

Blue Power Cores are speed up. These increase your speed (duh). At first, (5 speed = default) you can't catch up to power cores belind you no matter what. After a few of these, you'll easily be able to catch up. Max speed is 10.25.

Purple Power Cores give you a random score bonus. Remember this if you are close to 75000 points. Every 75000 points, you get an extra life!

HINTS AND TIPS:
Avoid crashing into enemy ships. It kills them, but you lose life, too.

Keep Moving- Many bullets are fired toward you or home. If you move, there's a less chance that they will hit you.

If there's a big ship on the screen, kill it at all means. If it hits you, YOU DIE!

The round ships give you less points than the pointy ones, but take less hits to kill.

8-Way Shot + Rapid Fire + Max Speed = MAX KILLAGE!!!!!!!!!!
If you run out of health, you die and lose a life. When this happens, all your shot powers, rapid fire, speed, and health are reverted back to normal. Try to reach 8-way shot.

oh, ant to vanish, you first have to use "duplicateMovieClip". THEN put in the hitTest function "removeMovieClip(this)". This will only work if the clip was generated dynamicly (duplicateMovieClip; attachMovieClip; etc.) I'm good at flash. Contact me if you need more help.
