Topic: Dude - Where's My Thread?

Posted: 06/20/09 10:29 AM

Forum: Where is / How to?

NEVR locked a similar thread to this recently ( http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1069 347 ) but I think the format for asking for help finding a thread might work better than the original "write a sentence describing the thread you're looking for" method in here, so I figured I'd give that guy-with-a-good-idea-that-just-happened-
to-not-be-original a little shoutout/ego-stroke and paste his format idea here.

Normally I leave the "find this for me?" stuff to Shunshuu, but I might actually try to help out when it comes to finding THREADS, as I loves me some old threads, and on my various computers from the past 10 years (all 3 of 'em), I have literally 1000s of NG threads bookmarked.... sad, I know:

Thread Name: can't remember. Possibly "Noob Battle" or something similar, however?
Date Posted: 2003 or 2002, I'd imagine.
Thread Starter: no idea... unless it was one of the two users mentioned in the description:
Forum/Section: definitely General.
Number of Pages: 15ish at one point? Might have ended up with way more.
DESCRIPTION: The greatest thread in General history, IMO. It featured a battle between bartard and HeReTiK (who's also well known as a flash artist in the portal) and various other General regulars. Only the battle was acted out via horrible, horrible, AMAZING MS paint pictures. It was such a great thread, I couldn't help but get in on the action myself a bit. Mostly consisted of hilarious posttext and MSpaint pics showing various level icons/postcount screenshots with arms, legs, and weapons... doing horrible violence to each other.

(I could find this one on my own by hooking up my old late90s/early00s PC to a powersource... but A) that's a pain... and B) the above serves as a good example of using the form like EggfordTheEgg did in his ownill-fated thread... and C) I'm pimping the glorious General thread in question... and D) finally, I'm seeing if there's still anyone around here that has memories of the greatness of General back in 2003 besides me. A bit of a test. #;-}>)

You waited over a full month to bump and had a good reason and didn't just post "BUMP! LOLZ!" or something, so yes, it was perfectly fine.

Your bump the next day on 6/9 wasn't really that necessary, though. Things don't move THAT quickly on this forum, so in just 1 day, your topic was probably still on the front page. Anyway, one of those bumps worked, clearly, and maybe you'll get a 3rd link out of my just-so-happens-to-be-a-bump-even-though -I-didn't-label-it-as-such right here. Good luck! "Illustration - Here is a Wikipedia article explaining it."

The first thing the illustration article on wiki that he linked us to right there explains is that illustration is more about subject than form. A sketch is more about subject than form, therefore it is an illustration, not fine art or other. Bah-BAM.

First day up, and it already has a much higher good:bad ratio than Retrogade's photoshop portal ever did, so... worry not.

Go ahead and draw, just take your time. Spend a month making a perfect pic and slap it in your profile. Why not? I might even give it a go, and I suck. But I got my babe a tablet for X-mas a couple years ago, and I doodle with it myself every now and again. TIME TO PRACTICE.

So that's why I can't get any more reviews...

I never should have hacked my reviewing fingers off instead of just stowing them away in a dusty drawer or somesuch. Foolish me... ;_; and then to FORGET about it, too. (sigh)

Alsooooo eventually, could this list include Medal points? I mean I think there are nearly 2500 medal points to collect already. So it looks likely I suppose that soon enough there will be over 10,000 points for that to collect. Thoughts?

Ugh. So this is how the whole thing started. DAMN YOU, GAGSY!

LOL. Of course you wouldn't. Much like me, you're already 3x20k, so what do you care, eh? #;-}>

Additionally, you're only ~2.5k and ~1k off of 20k posts and 20k reviews, so... even if it was a 5x20k minimum, you'd be there soon enough. Hell, you'd be the solo list member. #;-}>

At 4/13/09 12:59 PM, AllReligiousDrunk wrote: I think this is a very bad idea. They are way too easy to get and should not be regarded as Newgrounds "stats". Compare 50 blams, saves, reviews, posts or experience points to 50 medal points, the huge difference is that the latter may take as little as a couple of seconds for anyone to get.

Beautifully put. That's exactly why I have an instant and instinctive negative response to the concept of medal points being added to the 10k+ list as well. Thanks for saying it much quicker than I woulda, too. #;-}>

I should add, of course, that my feelings towards adding actual medal count to the list are a bit more mixed. I certainly won't protest that change like I woulda the points one... since anyone earning 10,000 ACTUAL achievements deserves some freakin' awe, whereas points are more arbitrary and too easy to get too quickly. But... eh... still not the same sort of stat as the 5 we have now.

Then again, I already grumbled plenty about audio reviews being added to the list (either on their own or lumped in together with flash reviews), so I'm just a crusty old codger who resists change despite voting for Obama. I IZ A MESS OF CONTRADICTIONS. #;-}>

I'd lose faith in this list if it included medal points, definitely.

I wouldn't go that far, but I'd certainly weep.

Now, if Bahamut adds a medals column and if someone gets enough audio reviews to split that off from the flash reviews column... and we have a septalist... then I'll be looking forward to ONE MORE STAT we can add. Because pentalist is damned cool, but hexalist (bleh, let's just call it the sexalist, shall we?) and septalist are teh lames....

BUT OCTOLIST BRINGS THE COOL BACK. #;-}>

At 4/13/09 01:08 PM, Haggard wrote: But it is a stat on our profile page, so what other reason other than "they are too easy to get! *cries*" is there?

It's a stat on our profile pages ON THE RIGHT column. i.e. it's a stat just like how many newsposts we make is a stat... ON THE RIGHT... and how many comments we get to our newsposts is a stat.... ON THE RIGHT.... and how many favourites we've assigned is a stat... ON THE RIGHT... and how many flash or audio submissions we've submitted is a stat... ON THE RIGHT...

I trust my point is made: numbers/stats having to do with things in the RIGHT column on our profile mean nothing to me. Only stats in the LEFT column are proper stats. #;-}>

Besides, it STILL takes some time to get to 10k medal points, even though there will be lots of easy medals out there in the near future. But a user still needs to play those games to get the medals.

And, to be honest... how hard is it to make a post on the BBS? Should we now exclude posts from the list as well, because getting posts is too easy?

Now imagine a NG BBS world where you get 25 or 50 "post points" per post you make, though.

Now think of how fast someone can get to 10,000 "post points" versus how long it takes to get to 10,000 POSTS.

Now realise why I vastly prefer 10,000 medals to 10,000 medal POINTS. #;-}>

At 4/13/09 02:15 PM, NEVR wrote: The thing about every other stat is that you can only get ONE at a time (except exp, but you can only get 10 EXP per day anyway, which is slower than a lot of people's B/P or posting rate). With medal points, you can get 10, 25, or 50 at a time. Hypothetically, with enough games that featured medal points available, it would probably be possible for a user to make it to 10,000 in about a day, which really, REALLY cheapens the validity of it as a countable 10k stat IMO; I thought the point of having this list was to honour the users who had toiled long and hard to gain their 10k stats.

Well, I started the list simply because there were only THREE people who had 2 10k stats back in 2003. One who had 10k b/p and 10k exp (NemesisM66, IIRC?), one who had 10k b/p and 10k posts (biteme2516, IIRC?), and one who had 10k exp and 10k posts (Shrapnel, IIRC?)... and due to the rarity of this 2x10k status and due to the coolness that we had a perfect triad of the 3 2x10k combos (when I was only thinking of 3 10k categories, of course) at the time, I made the list for the hell of it.

So I don't know if I ever really intended it should honour those who took a long time to get their stats, since after all the three categories back in the day took varying amounts of time and effort to get... exp the least effort but (potentially) the most time, posts only as much time as a user allowed, and b/p kinda in between them.... but I did include everyone who was 1x10k at the time (myself included), and later expanded the list + separated b from p... and in the process of it going from 3x10k to 5x10k in its columns, the list certainly did become a celebration of the long, hard toil that is getting onto it... especially once I trimmed it from a 1x10k minimum to a 2x10k minimum. THAT right there may have been the change that truly made the list into something approaching what you're talking about. But I didn't do it FOR that, I did it so I'd have less work making the updates. #;-}>

At 4/13/09 03:56 PM, Haggard wrote: But yeah, I see the point that it takes a relatively short time to achieve this. Maybe the points needed to get onto the list should be higher then. (like 50k or 100k? But then it wouldn't be a "Top 10k Exp/Saves..."-list anymore)
Or we discard the medal POINTS and count MEDALS instead. 10k MEDALS should be really hard to get, no matter how many games with medals there are.

THANK YOU. #;-}>

Thanks for the update, Bahamut. If there's any one thing wrong with them, it's preping them for BBS posting afterwards - they're too all signing and dancing for this, so I might have to just screen shot them...

Just do what I do and move the names to the right of each line. As long as you're only quoting 2-3 lines, it hardly takes any time at all. I see you already change the ***s and ****s to 3* and 4*, similar to how I spell it out to keep the columns in line.

Moving the names to the right is way easier than adding the right number of underscores next to the shorter names, IMO at least. #;-}>

Bit late to the party, but quite the interesting thread, dude. Not the usual Wi/Ht? fare, at least...

At 5/27/09 12:35 PM, Darren1337 wrote: I reviewed a certain user's flash submission, giving it a lower score than he apparently wanted. A 3 and a 6. Not extremely low or anything. He responded to my review unfavourably, saying how rubbish my own submissions are. Now, while I may have come off as an asshole in the review, I still rated the animation fairly. Feeling bad about it, I sent him a PM, explaining in detail the aspects of the animation I didn't like, offering constructive criticism. Unfortunately the user is Argentinian and has difficulty expressing himself in English. I got the gist of his reply though, from key phrases such as "SHUT UP!!!" and "YOU CAN NOT BEAT MEN!!!" I then gave the user my best wishes and blocked him.

A) LOL at his PM content.

B) uh oh, I think I see the problem that led to this thread's creation!

Now, I would have been happy if that was the end of it. The fact that I blocked the user and prevented him from getting the last word may have provoked him into his next action; giving my submissions zeroes, evident from a sudden drop in their scores.

Yep. I thought I saw it, and I diiiiid. "I then gave the user my best wishes" was the problem, if you haven't realised it by now. You should have just blocked him without replying to the PM. After all, then he would have "felt he got the last word," at least, and might have left things at that. Oh well. Remember this next time some flamer or troll tries to get you pissed off, though, okay? #;-}>

At 5/27/09 08:46 PM, Darren1337 wrote: Excuse the double post but I feel obliged to give special mention to iscrulz, whose page can be found here.

The offending user I mentioned in the first post has taken it upon himself to send his friends to blam my submissions. I've had no reply from Wade, but in the meantime, iscrulz is voting me back up to counter the zeroes. What a guy :D

Okay, do you mean the asshole actually has people monitoring the portal for NEW INCOMING submissions by you, and he's got his crew downvoting them AS THEY'RE UNDERJUDGEMENT? Because yes, that's against the rules, and that's essentially the "mass voting" you may have heard about.

But if you just mean he's got multiple people voting 0 on your EXISTING, already-saved/already-over-200-votes submissions, that's not really an issue to the admins, since those movies/games can't be blammed.

The reason I ask/aren't sure which you mean is that from your profile, it appears you only have 1 submission EVER that was saved, so that's technically not "submissions."

So, dunno whether you were being loose with the term "blam," since so many people call voting 0 on a SAVED movie "blamming it" when it's... not (thanks, vote panel picture descriptions...).... or whether the guy really is trying to get people to blam things you submit (which appears to have succeeded, what with the only 1 submission and all.

Eh, either way, I'll join my buddy iscrulz and help you out with a nice 5 on your current submission. My 14.11 VP should overcome at least 2 of the asshole's buds. #;-}>

I've mentioned my own personal method for this in the past and I remember at least one other user found it useful/said they were going to do it, too. So I'll share it with you on the off chance you find it useful as well:

Every time I send a PM (which isn't often, I don't tend to start PM convos, I'd rather just chat on people's userpages and my own userpage, really... but I do reply to most PMs I receive), I copy the subject and text and send another PM immediately afterwards to my alt account.

My alt account's inbox is basically my main account's sent mail box. If I want to see what I sent to someone months ago, I just check my alt's inbox. If I want to make sure I replied to a PM in my main account's inbox, I just... you guess it, check my alt's inbox.

<high voice>For the Overlord!</high voice>

Mwahahaha. I have that game on Steam. Fun stuff. I only got a few worlds into it, and was thinking about playing it lately, but been FPSing too much. I shall get back to it soon, though.

Ah, but you are currently at the pinnacle of statwhoreishness for the list making and while Bahamut and myself are catching you, we still remain largely in your shadow - I feel that I'm still more in the shadow though :(

More in my shadow than Bahamut is? Whysofor?

You've made a list or two that no one else had made before, and he hasn't (not that there's anything wrong with that, but just sayin', my style was mostly to make new lists, such as saves/blams and penta... VP list was my only non-original list). I'd say that makes you more of a standing-on-yer-own listmaker, really. I mean, it's not a contest, and it's not about how many lists you make, but... if there IS any difference, there's a difference between updating a list someone else passed down to you, and a list you made on your own. I've done both as I just said, and it's apples and oranges, I loved the VP list just as much as my own baby, the pentalist, but... clearly there is something a bit more OF you in a list you birthed instead of just caretaking, I mean.

::::hopes no adopted children read the above paragraph:::

Or did you just mean because you're making the save/blam lists I did plus one dealing with review response ratio (albeit not really the same list I made in that area, more of your own version of that list)? Yeah, well... aside from the pentalist, Bahamut's more drawing from multiple other listmakers' original works, so... if that's all you meant, then yeah.

If I am, perhaps, more notable... then it is only because of my longevity. I'm still here, a cranky old statfan needing my stat fix after 6+ years... never having fallen off the face of the earth like my two peers mentioned above. And for that, I will gladly accept the "Statfan and Listmakerer lifetime achievement award for attendance" were it to be so proffered.
As a minion, it is my duty to pillage one such award for you...

If this were Overlord, I'd make sure you'd get one of those pumpkin helmets before the other minions beat you to it. LOVE THE PUMPKIN HELMET.

All those +1s for us passing the totally-still Recon, I guess. At first I was all "huh? How did we ALL go up... ahhhhhh..."

Anywho, so much movement lately, it's insane. Just in the 3 weeks or so since the update, I'm now 100 exp ahead of iWalker aka nimmer... who is moving, at least, but not very fast (kinda an-every-other-day deposit pattern as of late).

Going down nicely with the amount of missing users on the spreadsheet. Right now, there's around 14 more to find, which is still quite a lot missing but hey, at least I've found many users over the last two months. :)

Most of those 14, I assume, are way down in the 8k-10k range, at least?

The stat pulling program I have right now doesn't read EXP ranks, so it can't detect which ranks people are at, only EXP number. I vote for keeping it a top 2000.
I vote for having it at least 8k+ EXP for the time being.

Okay, but in the future once 8k+ is swelling out of control, I hope you'll consider trimming back down to 2000 and just keeping it locked there. It would make a good nostalgic reminder/tribute of/to BBB's top 2000.

I guess this wouldn't be a bad idea since they'll be on sale then and whichever games I want I'll probably get them then, unless they go on sale sooner (e.g. All id Software games). We might as well wait until the Christmas sale to get games we're after, unless they go on sale beforehand (obviously).

Exactly. So let's just see what's on sale before December, and then what games we both need by then. If you want, you can get me the Abe games for X-mas if they haven't gone on sale before then, and I'll get you something you still need by then. I'm sure there'll be something you still haven't gotten by then. #;-}>

The sooner I get there, the better. That's all.

Yes, but... patience is a trait well-rewarded.... so that's all I'm trying to get for ya. The more patient you are, the more pleasantly surprised you'll be by your NG stat gains. #;-}>

ANYWHO, I have a pretty good idea why the genres were abandoned: collections.

Ever since they gave users the ability to suggest movies and games be added to collections, the genre tag's been somewhat redundant. The collections page showcases a wide variety of not only genres but SUB-genres. The collections system, in short, just... makes the genre pulldown obsolete.

That's my take on it, in case you're still dying of curiosity. </necro>

Here in my town, the most U2 I here on the stations I listen to... are War-era singles on the classic rock station. I mean, sure, every now and then there's Where the Streets Have No Name, too... but not very often compared to SBS and Like a Song from War.
We also had a Classic Rock station that played a lot of U2, but unfortunately they went bankrupt recently. They used to play some Achtung Baby from time to time and even songs like Gone passed by every now and again.

Now we still have an 80's and 90's station, but that´s usually the Joshua Tree stuff I was talking about (Where the Streets, Still haven´t found, With or without You). I´d be glad if they played some War or Boy sometimes. Would make a nice change.

Ah, I see. So it's the 80s station playing too much JT singles for your tastes, not the classic rock station, at least. Hm.

Yeah, some AB would get played, too. And we have an 80s station as well, but they play so much 80s one hit wonders and even early 90s stuff that U2 doesn't get played too often. At least, not when I'm listening.

But I tend to listen to sports talk radio, news radio, and the classic rock and classic rock/oldies music stations more than I listen to the 80s station (it'd be my 3rd choice on FM/music), so... maybe I just miss all the JT singles they play, too. #;-}>

Nope! Trying to Throw Your Arms Around the World. Something about the "... fish like a bicycle..." line and the song as a whole that just turn me off. Doesn't feel like it fits in the album as much as every single other song on the album fits. I wish it had been a b-side and Lady with the Spinning Head (an excellent b-side which I have in 2 different versions from two different AB-era singles) had been on the album instead.
I think the line is:
"And a woman needs a man, like a fish needs a bicycle".

Weird line indeed.

And I usually don't screw up my U2 lyrics quotings, so... that shows you I meant what I said about skipping that one a lot. #;-}>

But I agree that Lady with the Spinning Head would´ve fitted quite well on the album. Do you have an original version of it by the way? Because all I could find was a 6 minute long extended remix version (which was awesome) and a very early version. Which was more a mix between Lady With The Spinning Head and Ultraviolet along with the line Wake Up Dead Man somewhere. Which also had it´s own name: Wanna Take You Down (you probably know it).

Indeed. Well, I don't know if it's original, but I have the 6 minute long remix that you mention, yes, which is nice, and I have a 4 minute long more "standard" seeming one, that feels like less of a remix, but might still be a remix, I don't remember.

I don't think it's a very early version like the one you mention, at least.

And I'm not actually familiar with Wanna Take You Down. Stunner, I know. #;-}>

550 HOURS!!?? Jesus Christ. I probably haven´t even played Majora´s
Mask for that long and I´ve beaten that game at least 10 times by now.
700ish hours now! Blame the spy/sniper update from 5/21...

TF2 is the most fun multiplayer FPS ever, and has no plot, no start and no finish, and... thus... comparing how many hours of a single player game with a storyline like a Zelda game... you have... to how much time in TF2... is not even comparing apples and oranges... it's like comparing eating chocolate ice cream to hiking up a mountain!
Okay maybe that isn´t such a good comparisation, but come on. 700 hours on one game is just insane. You would say that after an hour or 200, you would´ve seen and done everything and the boredom would start to set in. At least that´s usually how it goes with me.

Well, you COULD say that, but you have to remember that Valve keeps adding stuff to TF2 and changing how the classes work, and there's constantly new custom maps being made by TF2 players. I have literally 200 maps in my maps directory just from all the DLing my TF2 automatically does when I play on my favourite custom servers.

And I'd actually estimate that yeah, about every 200 hours of playtime, the game gets changed to keep it fresh (new weapons, new maps, new gamemodes, slight gameplay tweaks, class tweaks, map edits, etc.). You're right, it would be insane to have played it 700 hours if it hadn't changed at all in that time (but I don't play the X-Box 360 version, so... that ain't me #;-}>).

Seriously, I got it after the medic pack and the pyro pack had already made changes, then 2 months after I got it, the heavy pack happened... 3 months later they changed a lot of stuff about engie/spy/medic, but not a full class pack... great stuff, though, like lv2/lv3 teles and lv2/lv3 dispensers to go with the already lv1/lv2/lv3 sentry guns... etc. etc... then 2 months later, the scout pack happened.... then 3 months later the spy/sniper pack happened. And that was 2 weeks ago.

Always stayin' fresh!

No, I'm most comfortable with Windows Media Player. With the ease of the MSN and Last.fm plugins, I like Windows Media Player a lot. Not that fond with the other major media softwares such as Winamp or iTunes. I've had some trouble with them in the past. Windows Media Player on the other hand, no problems at all. :)

I hated the concept of iTunes before I ever tried it, but my baby used iTunes, so I tried it out. Aside from some minor issues I have with how it stores its library in an .xml and how hard it is to transfer shit from one computer to another, I like it a lot.

Also, I can still avoid ever getting an iPod or an iPhone. I just use iTunes, which I didn't pay for. Woot woot.

And anyway, the main thing is that it works fine with all my ol' mp3s I ripped and used to play on winamp BACK IN THE DAY (i.e. the good ol' 90s).

Where were you talking about? NG logs or RG?

Wish I could let you have this dinky ol' level 47 gauntlet till I level up, sure... Especially if I could use level 42 in the meantime. Mmmmm... level 42.

Depends on how big the chainsaw is, really.
Everything's big with dragons. :)

Then it's more epic, yes.

If it had been a human-sized chainsaw being held by a dragon who was running around with this tiny little thing, then it wouldn't have been very epic at all, really.

Also, 25 is a quarter of 100. What could be bad about that? 75 rocks due to being 3/4 of 100, even though it's odd AND not a square, actually.
I'm glad we think alike. 25 is a great number for being a quarter of 100.

There ya go.

I just wondered how many posts from gfox it would take to reach 0.01 per day. You're a bigger stat whore than me, so you work it out :P

Oh, well, if that's all you want to know, then yeah, I'll just work it out sometime. This is assuming that NG's profiles don't have wonky rounding when it comes to the ppd stat, though (which sometimes I think they kinda do... I remember that back in the day I used to use my ppd to find my "days on NG," and of course the number wasn't very consistent due to the ppd not going to enough significant digits).

Anyway, just look at my ppd for gfoxclock, and you should get a good idea. Divide gfoxclock's postcount by his "ppd units," and you should have how many posts gfox needs for 0.01 ppd, if that makes any sense. Hell, I'll do it now:

he's got 236 posts and 0.11 ppd. So 21.45 posts per ppd unit. I'd guess it'd take at least 15-20 posts minimum for gfox to get a 0.01 ppd. It's hard without knowing exactly where within "0.11" gfoxclock is, of course.

If you really care, go find my "days of account life" stats on NG log and boom, you're golden. #;-}>

Well, that's your own fault. You've obviously been planning this for a while and as a result, you couldn't let excruciating pain stand in the way of your hard earned, easily spent moneys!

Well, it's more that I didn't want her to know I was in pain during my proposal to her until afterwards. Didn't want to ruin it for her. ;_;

Anyway, she's not big on ceremony. It was my idea to do the proposal 1 year to the day before our wedding date, she wouldn't care when it was, in fact she was all "baaaaahhhh, you don't need to get me an engagement ring, we're pretty much already engaged." She woulda been fine had I just gotten matching wedding bands (which I did as well). But I found a really nice silver ring with a celtic knot on top that would be more of a "central/top dealie like engagement rings tend to stereotypically have a jewel of some sort atop, most stereotypically a nice African blood diamond, of course"... versus the perfectly round/same-width-all-around wedding bands for both of us....

And so you should. You're (nearly) a married man now!

FUNK DAT! I'mma suffer through it. HIGH PAIN TOLERANCE WIN.

And finally, thanks for the lv42 alt alt grats, folks. The fact that all of you said "gfox" means I don't have to EVER EVER POST WITH GFOX. Mwahahahah. Coop's regretting not putting "gfoxcook" on that line of his grats list now, I guarantee you all. #;-}>
Wait, what?

Well, you'd made your comment about how gfox had his level 42ness but the damned bastard never posts. And that bit earlier you replied to in this post where I kinda said "hmmm, maybe I should announce my gfoxclock achievements with gfoxclock and my gfox achievements with gfox, thereby finally posting with gfox... to avoid the confusion that people sometimes mix up my account names.".... but then no one confused gfox with gfoxcook like they confused gfoxclock with gfoxcook (probably just due to name character-length).... so gfox seems free and clear in the "not needing to post EVAR" department. #;-}>

Had you put gfoxcook "accidentally" instead of gfox when congratting my alt alt on level 42, then the perfect record my gratters had on that level 42 congrats woulda been shattered, and I couldn't point to that and say... woot! Free and clear.

It's a giant gradient scale from the "perfect non-participation" and the impossibly-infinite participation... with shades of grey in between. Everyone fluctuates up and down in their activity amounts. If the level you're at gets to be "too much" or "gets to you" or whatever, then just dial it down. As I have in various ways (portal and BBS-wise and modding-wise as well, I suppose) over the years at multiple times. Yet still I'm here. You don't have to leave completely to reduce yer time spent here/stats collected. Just try slow reduction in both departments before you shut it all off at once. Wish more people would try that slow reduction first... ;_;

People who used to be active when I first came here too, like X-Naut (the imposter ;P), Casualty, Shanus, Sterockicy, and others (who I can't remember right now) have all disappeared too. At least some of you guys are still here, and by the looks of it we have a lot of fresh blood around too.
Some names on that list I'd completely forgotten about. I only ever remember X-Naut when I do a Saves or Blams update (By the way, rain is forecast for tomorrow, so I'll try to get the saves done then, I promise) and Shanus was tied in quite majorly to the Review Request Club. Other than that, it made me think what mark I've left on Newgrounds as a whole. Not much, so I'd better do more!

I miss BOTH X-Nauts. Sad, I know.

Sorry for not putting this all in one post. I wasn't expecting to do any years besides 2004.

Is your current connection speed really 36k? ay-yi-yi.... ;_;

Then again, at my parents' house out in the countryside, they can only get 23k or so on a 56k modem, due to the crappy phone lines and the distance to the dialed number being used to connect to the internet, so.... 36k > 23k, at least. #;-}>

In a store?

I was gonna reply to that part of his post and say "Steam is all the store you need!" but then I reread the start of his post, and when he talked about the free TF2 weekend, he mentioned that once it was over, he couldn't keep playing because he no haz teh credit cards.

So he's trying to find it in a brick & mortar store to buy it with cash, presumably, since he has no credit cards.

Sir Nuts, if there's no stores there in Brazil near you that seem to have TF2 or the Orange Box (you did know it comes in that, right? Maybe you've been seeing that at various computer game/software stores and just didn't know it had TF2 in it? ... I kinda hope this is the case, since it'll mean you can pick it up real soon! #;-}>).... I might also suggest trying to find it (in the Orange Box, or by itself, whichever... but Orange Box is a great investment--7 games for 1 price, never more than 2x the cost of TF2 on its own, from what I've seen) on a website (maybe amazon.com?) that offers payment methods other than just credit card. Maybe there's a (reputable) site out there that'll ship you the Orange Box if you write 'em a check? Or if you have no bank account, then turn your cash into a money order? They do that at Post Offices here in the US, dunno where you'd have to go in Brazil.

Also, I second Bahamut's "wish you'd let us know you were gonna play on the free weekend" thought, Sir Nuts.... woulda been neat to break yer TF2 cherry among friends!

And lastly: what's your Steam username? Even if you'll only be playing TF2 on free weekends for the foreseeable future, that's still better than nothing. Let me and Bahamut know it either here or privately via PM, and we'll friend ya!

'twas unclear to me which of the above you meant because Coop seemed to indicate that either Nijsse or biteme wrecked their perfect retirement numbers.... once I hit MY 2nd set of perfect retirement numbers, I shant be wrecking it. Evar. I've made it.... nearly 4 years without gaining a single blam on this account, why would I ever screw up... ever? I did wonder about that before I retired at 24k/36k, but my track record has set even my paranoid OCD mind at ease about future things.

Using opera ONLY for gfoxcook and using firefox ONLY for gfoxclock/gfox helps a lot, and it's why I started that system when I retired in October '05. If I ever make a mistake, it'll be getting a save or blam for gfox by accident instead of gfoxclock, and that I can live with. The only reason I don't b/p for gfox is that I need to blam for gfoxclock and save for gfoxcook, but once I retire my main at twin 36ks, I won't mind the occasional accidental sharing between my two alts. #;-}>

And if you meant how long will it take me to get to retirement... well, not too long. I was predicting 2010 some time ago (mid-2008 or so), but based on how close I am now, and if Clock Day '09 is as good for me as the last two CDs were, then I can see myself getting there even before 2010 hits. Quick note: damnit, I had saved posts 1, 2, and 3 in a text file earlier... and then reopened them to finish the catch-up... I believe notepad put in linebreaks where my window size is.... which causes the damned LINE WRAP ON NG to fuck up. I've done this before, but I'm not sure I ever realised what the CAUSE was. Today, finally, I realise what happened. Yay.

Not only did my own words get messed up, but so did quotes (which I can't remember if that happened the last few times this happened or not)... There's a chunk of Coop's post in catch-up 2 that isn't quoted... and there's a chunk of someone else's post that isn't quoted in catch-up 3. After a "+" in the text, IIRC. etc. etc. ANYWAY...

Anywho:

Do you think ol' Mistah James will be your final pass BEFORE you hit #50, though? Are you actually claiming you'll be #51 to his #50 and then FATALITY him all over the cobblestones of NG's exp road? #;-}>

Oh, I see now. Still, 25 isn't that effective considering it's not a prime number.
Oh and I contrar 35 is 5 (prime) times 7 (prime) it is a primetime number boy.

But two primes multiplied together are no longer offensive to me, except in that they thus always produce an odd number, which means the resulting number is... odd after all, and by gfox definition... not as good as even numbers. But nothing exceptionally horrible about them as a matter of course.

35's a solid number. One of the better odds. But still in my bottom half of numbers, yes. It'd have to be. It's odd. #;-}>

The real question is which EVEN numbers are in my bottom half of numbers (since there are some odd numbers, like 25, or say 1111, or 12345, or such... falling under my category #1 of the above post, pushing out a few of my least fave even numbers from the top 50% of all numbers).

Then you don't know gfox well enough. ;_;
I know him well enough he is a Houston Rockets fan wait I hope they beat the 76ers, my Pistons lost in the first round to Lebron James, first time Detroit didn't get into the Eastern Conference finals.

Why would the Rockets have been playing the 76ers, anyway? O_o

I just wish the Rockets had beaten the Lakers. So close to another title. Oh well. Doesn't hurt anywhere near as bad as the year the Cardinals won the World Series (the Astros nearly passed them for the division/a postseason ticket in September of 2006... and had they done so, I have complete confidence they would have beaten the same teams the Cardinals beat that year, and won the WS the year after they made it to the WS but lost to the ChiSox, which would have been epic).

I plan to count medals, not medal points.
okay, I don't think they should be counted, imho.
No, medals makes it more fairer while medal points would have been chaotic.
Uh okay I said that because I don't have any well I am around 50 so it will be like a small flash review boost just as audio reviews are so is Byteslinger going to logify them.

I don't care to count either medals OR medal points in with all the other stats, personally, but since I don't make lists anymore, my word is not even partial law.

That said, as a list appreciater, my vote's for counting just medals themselves, not points.

Probably because I'm a bigger fan of Steam achievements (where you just get achievements, and the total # of them is what you can see as a stat) more than I am of MS Windows Live/Xbox Live achievements, where not only is there the achievement count, but that silly ol' Gamerscore.

Medal points count is too much like Gamerscore, and as such I don't care for it too much, other than not wanting my total to sit at 3700 or something in the future.

At 5/3/09 09:01 AM, Bahamut wrote: I would, but I'd rather save the effort to getting all YouTube Poops off the site.

(clarification: I love the concept of them, and there's a few that make me laugh. The rest I just don't watch/close as soon as they irritate me... man, it's like a bad TV show, it's existence doesn't have to pain you!)

Oh and I contrar 35 is 5 (prime) times 7 (prime) it is a primetime number boy.
Multiplying numbers and such doesn't really work on gfox.

If by "doesn't really work" you mean "doesn't carry the negative shit about the numbers forward to affect the product of two numbers being multiplied, for example"... then yes, indeed.

After he is done I will give my Nihont%u014Ds to him when I get the scythe soon.
Your Nino-what?

I have no idea what iscrulz meant exactly due to the weird crap there (looks like trying to paste in characters that NG doesn't support in its text), but Nihon means Japan, and I'd assume the word he used has something to do with Japan or Japanese... something.

Yeah, but not many many regs from 2003 are still active nowadays at all. And that number is even lower when it comes to alts.

Well, the top 50 exp list says there's plenty of people from BEFORE 2003 that are still depositing. Unless by active you meant "doing more than just depositing."

Otherwise, I'd already be in the top 50, instead of sitting at #51, waiting for my shot at the big show. Or hell, maybe the top 10 by now. O_o

Or laggy in a "the framerate isn't high enough to really enjoy this" laggy?

There's plenty of games on Steam far less demanding on computers than TF2, also. So... anyway, you're already on Steam if you played TF2 for free, so you HAVE indeed joined the

Oh, I see now. Still, 25 isn't that effective considering it's not a prime number.

Not only that, but I LIKE 25.

It's 5 squared. Remember how much I like squares.

There's four types of numbers, really, in my "gut reaction the moment I see a number" internal judgement-o-meter brain section:

1. squares, repeated digits, ascending/descending number clusters, cool things like that
2. even numbers
3. odd numbers
4. prime numbers (which are also odd, of course, so this is a detestable EVEN-LOWER subset of #3)

25 isn't even, but it's a square! So it's actually cooler than most "normal" even numbers. Mwahaha!

It's not a prime number. Therefore, it's ineffective.
It is truly effective because it balances out the 37 to a 36, prime or not.
Then you don't know gfox well enough. ;_;

Indeed. BAHAMUT WIN.

Also, 25 is a quarter of 100. What could be bad about that? 75 rocks due to being 3/4 of 100, even though it's odd AND not a square, actually. So my above 1,2,3,4 list is clearly

incomplete, but anyway... it's kinda #1 meets #3, which puts it below most #1 category numbers, probably on par with most #2s (evens in general).
