It's just hard to thing of suggestions when you already said you don't have a huge amount of monthly bandwidth to work on. Anything fun you could do has either been done before or needs to be on a new site with plenty of room to grow and gain more users.

A flash portal is fairly ridiculous. And besides, why would you want to make one when there's so many sites (including this one) that have something like that?

Either use your site to showcase your own work or friends' work or... I dunno. Just don't make a "lame forum with nobody posting" like so many people do and you'll be fine.

I don't think anyone has gold besides her right now. NGling used to, but he's been inactive on NG for months now.

At one point, Joe, ramagi, and NGling were in a free-for-all for deity and 2 gold spots. I don't think we've ever seen more than 2 or 3 golds at one time, but it's likely that it's not a limit to the number, but more just an issue of scaling due to how much whistling/abusive review marking the current deity has done.

These things are far from clear, as the whistle system remains as enigmatic as the popularity system once was (perhaps moreso, because at least there was a top 50 popularity list... there is NO top 50 whistle power list, clearly).

You could say that a stat topic (As the NG rules talk about it) is a subset of spam topics... in that they waste space, waste time, and are pointless.

But the difference is that a stat topic is someone self-promotion their stats, and the commentary on that is that we have profiles for a reason (IOW, no one needs you making a topic telling them "OGM I JUST GOT 5000 EXP" when if they cared, they could have checked your profile... and even more importantly, no one needs a topic telling them "OGM I JUST GOT 2000 POSTS" when postcounts are listed right next to posts, so it's extraordinarily redundant and pointless).

But spam topics are generally a bunch of character spam or nonsense or blatant trolling to get a bunch of noobs in general to start running up the reply count in a topic... and they have nothing to do with advertising a stat from your profile on the BBS.

I'm not saying they're apples and oranges, clearly a topic could be both, but there are SEPARATE terms for them, just as there are SEPARATE rules for them in the NG Rules.

I don't know about what he was saying. I think he's accept my categorization as much as yours anyways. Possibly 3,000 posts, but I've been posting less of recent, so 6,000 blams looks the most likely. 2,500 saves doesn't really count, it's not a round enough number. Top 400 of experience is coming up as well, could be reaching the top 70 of b/p but everyone's fairly active just above me. I'll just keep plodding away I guess :-)

6,000 blams is a good goal. My blams passed my saves at 6,000 apiece. Ahhh, back when I had 12,000 points... so long ago.

Indeed. And since you already feel there are more than enough Sergeant ranks as it is, I'll bet you're glad it doesn't go up to 30.

My guess is that they didn't really think about how many there were like they did with levels. With levels, they probably had the number in mind, or at least a rough number, and just made enough level icons to go with it.

Whereas with the b/p ranks, it's all based on Army ranks, so... they probably didn't notice how many there were and then label them with numbers, until they'd designed all the badges. Who knows, there may have been more originally, and some got cut (like extra sergeant ranks).

BTW, I believe I said something on the last page like "OH NO! If Pimp gets to Police Captain I'll drop from 25 to 26 in VP rank" or something. For some reason, I was confusing -bomb- with Pimp. -bomb- has 10.50, and indeed... if he ranked up, he'd pass both fixit (who's just passed him for #26) and myself in VP... but Pimp has 10.99 (HT has 11.00), and if Pimp gets the 4 more b/p he needs for Police Captain, he will be passing HT and a few other people, to around where HAQ is, not quite to RyoHahn's rank.

yeah, a lot of post totals have been dropping in the past few days, I've noticed when I'm updating people's postcounts (I keep track of the people ahead of me on the top 50 list in between Dobio's updates for myself). But it's rare that I specifically notice ONE topic where a huge shift happened. And this one, like I said, got hit by at least 6 or so deletions. I wonder if it was all from one user or several...

that's another way to look at it. but if you'ld use the old system with these amounts of crap maximum half of it would get blammed. 2/3rd blams was something exceptional in those days.

Finally? Things have been this way since like September. Ever since the summer ended, crap has been way up in quantity, with the possible exception of some Halloween and Christmas related periods where we had some good holiday flashes for awhile. Ever since Clock Day in August, in fact, there's been a definite shift. I had more saves than blams last year from March till July... then in July my blams caught up at 6000/6000... and look at me now. 18000+ blams and almost 14000 saves. All of that is due to the past 8 months and a lack of enough protectable stuff in ratio to the blammable stuff.

But anywho, as far as final blam votes (and final save votes), it would be nice if there was a stat in profiles for that, yes... but you can always just keep track of it yourself.

Taste is subjective. Some people like some things and some people don't. But it has about as much to do with whether they have movies on NG or not as it has with whether they're black or white.

I just wanted to clarify something: You make think it's unfair, but author responses to reviewers are NOT covered under any NG rules.

The reason we can and are encouraged to mark REVIEWS that deserve it as abusive is because abusive reviews can scare off good authors, and the administration does not want that. Abusive responses TO reviewers are not considered a big issue, as whether reviewers get "scared off" from reviewing is less of a concern than keeping flash artists on NG. Besides, reviewers have the option of being more careful with what they choose to review and how they choose to review it, while authors are open to criticism from everyone no matter what they do when the submit flash here. Reviewers have to reviewer in order to be respondable.

And in any event, how is voting a movie down an appropriate response to abusive responses, anyway? All you could do is hope that Hice reviews one of the NG Army member's flashes so you can be abusive back to him in those responses to his reviews. That would be more appropriate.

Special Ops isn't to blame, before it was restructed 2 weeks ago it was a dead section of the Army.

The logs showed hit list stuff going on for the past 2 months. Maybe there was a "lull" prior to 2 weeks ago, but a month ago and back there was talk of lowering flashes' scores.

Dude, what the hell. You guys can tell your own NGA members to stop talking about these issues or they'll be demoted (although many of them seem to insist on continuing to talk about it anyway), but you can't mandate what goes on in the NG BBS in general. That sort of attitude was part of the reason this hit list stuff got so many old CC members pissed off at the NG Army as a whole, as it looks quite arrogant. Stop trying to control things about NG, you're not an admin here.

Now, that said, if you want to ensure no one replies to this portion of my message, then I will suggest anyone wanting to continue this discussion with me e-mails me and we can hold it in private (albeit even slower than it would be here, as I check my e-mail less often than I come to the NG BBS). In any event, an atmosphere of secrecy is the last thing you guys need to continue to uphold in this thread. Forbidding people their freedom of speech doesn't look good considering what's happened.

What SPG meant is that he and other members WANT it to be a thing of the past. I wouldn't call last weekend the "distant past."

In any event, I am happy to see that most/all of the NGA forums are now visible. That shows you have nothing to hide anymore, and that's a good state to be in when it comes to coexisting with Wade's rules. A good start indeed.

That info (both the point amounts and the % bonuses) is almost a year out of date, SPG. Ramagi guessed it before she (or anyone) got to those ranks last spring.
