That appears to be a horrible movie, yes, especially awful considering the talent level of the actors the horrible writing ended up wasting... but I feel like the 23 minutes I just spent watching his review were possibly just as wasted as 23 minutes spent watching 1/4 (I'm assuming it's ~90 minutes long) of that movie.

I don't enjoy his reviewing style. He's one part Mr. Cranky from 1990s internet fame, and two parts MST3K, but with far less charm and funniness than either. And he mispronounced Julia Louis-Dreyfus. It's not "Lewis," it's "Louise." Jeeeez.... Where was HE during the 90s, anyway? Seems to know about Seinfeld's characters, but never heard one of the main four actors' names pronounced out loud before? O_o

Well, Portal is judged upon different merits than most games. Does MGS4 have as many fun, challenging sidegames/minigames as Portal?

Do they really matter? What matters is the game itself.

Of course they matter. Sidegames and minigames and other such things add to replayability, add to potential challenge/difficulty, and add to the variety of gameplay styles present in a game.

If they're in the game, they're in the game. They ARE the game itself, dude. The game is more than the sum of its plot. Come on, now, surely you know that.

A game is not a book. Portal is not just the storyline of the main SP mode. It is also the wacky shit you can do without following the plot, the crazy things you have to do for some of the tougher achievements (that aren't gotten automatically by playing the game "normally"), and the challenge/puzzle modes you do (usually) after you've finished the plot mode!

I refer to the least-time, least-steps, and least-portals challenge modes, plus the advanced maps. If you add in all of those things, I'll bet Portal is longer than MGS4, from the sounds of it. Without need of any cutscenes to pad the length. #;-}>

That's just comparing them in a different way. If it were games themselves, MGS4 would be longer, even if you cut all the cutscenes.

Anyway, I've only played MGS1, and it felt long enough to me, but I wasn't skipping cutscenes. If I were to replay it and skip cutscenes, I might change my view.

Have you ever replayed MGS1? I'd say that game has great replay value since every time I want to play MGS4, I'm always beating it at least twice to view both endings.

Yes, I've replayed MGS1 once. I've also replayed Portal once (the plot part, I mean). I enjoyed my replay of Portal more. :::shrugs:::

I should have mentioned in my earlier posts that I loved Ben's PEE MAN series most of all. There were only 3 movies in it, so that's probably why people aren't mentioning it anywhere near as much as they're now mentioning Stick Slayer or Pimp's Quest, which yes... were more famous...

Eh. It's not like it's a full game. It's like an ep 1 or ep 2 for HL2, only it's not even that important because you don't care as much about individual GTA plots as you do about Half-Life's arc plot. Or at least... you shouldn't, if you're a fan of both series. HL plot = matters. GTA plot = discarded when they switch cities again (which is often).

I still wish to get them nonetheless, but of course, I need to have a 360 in order to get them. I just like bonuses, that's all. Again, I'm still unsure as to which platform I'll get GTA4 on.

It is, it's even shorter when you skip all the cutscenes. Then again, so were MGS1 - 3. All fantastic games and longer than Portal (gameplay time-wise) nonetheless.

Well, Portal is judged upon different merits than most games. Does MGS4 have as many fun, challenging sidegames/minigames as Portal? I refer to the least-time, least-steps, and least-portals challenge modes, plus the advanced maps. If you add in all of those things, I'll bet Portal is longer than MGS4, from the sounds of it. Without need of any cutscenes to pad the length. #;-}>

Anyway, I've only played MGS1, and it felt long enough to me, but I wasn't skipping cutscenes. If I were to replay it and skip cutscenes, I might change my view.

Portal was plenty long, especially in light of the extra/more challenging side stuff I mentioned above... plus, it was part of the HL universe, and that makes anything cooler than the same length of gametime in another stupid gameworld. #;-}>

IIRC, a lot of those 32 submissions when you made that post were movies with 2.5-3.5 range scores. Meaning there was no way to get a blam off of them, they were removed by the submitters or by admins, not by getting blammed.

But this is getting a bit TOO low. Must try to pick it up a bit more in the coming weeks, get back above that 5-6 bppd range I seem to gravitate towards. Because with 5-6 bppd, it's gonna take me.... 466 days. And that means I'd barely get to 72k by end of 2010 when I'd rather get there as early as possible in 2010. So we'll see... but I think a nice 10-12 bppd range would take care of me just fine. It's a matter of trying to get the average up to that, though...

Me, I always have to do list AND catchup talk at once because I come by so rarely, but one of the great things I DO indeed remember about being more regular... was that often you could just do one or the other if you dropped by often enough, and then it meant less time invested at the moment, even if it was the same (or more) time invested in the end.

It's all about whether it's the time spend in a day or the time spent overall that bothers you more/you care about more.

This was a good update for me. Five ranks up is pretty amazing and with that I jumped right into the top 30 saviours. At the cost of gfoxcook, but he's probably glad that he gained a rank again instead of going down. Next update I don't expect to do so well due to summer holiday being over and all.

Well I still don't think you willl make it I assume 800 to 1,000 saves on clock day so you have 3,000 more to go in 5 months+ around 600 per month. I don't think so. I won't be able to 600 a month and if I get 900 on clockday I would need 340 per month. Well I can't tell I might get 100 or 700 a month I am not consistent.

I guess what I should have said is that I COULD make it by 2010 if I wanted to (also, I was expecting CD09 to be more like CD08 than it was, so there was nowhere many as saves to get as last year, even if I had saved 24/7 during it as opposed to just most of the time as I ended up doing).

Also, there was a TF2 update on 8/13, so I was still playing lots of TF2 on 8/15 and missed out on some during that, too.

But I still got plenty. Anyway, I will be retiring, HOPEFULLY, before I get married and before Clock Day 2010 at the very least, both of which occur in the summer of 2010. If I don't make it by the START of 2010, no biggie.

You get your runners into scoring position with 0, 1, or 2 outs. You score as much as you can with any sorts of hits, walks, errors, hit-batsmen, balks, WHATEVER it takes. Then with 2 outs, you clean off all the RISP with a nice home run.

Then one of your scrubs strikes out to end the inning with bases loaded. No biggie, right?

If you can do that often enough, at least 2-3 major scoring innings per game, always clear the bases when you're about to get out of an inning, you will have way more RISP and runs and way less LOB than an inferior team.

But it's tricky to do that consistently, and requires a team that is good at both smallball AND longball playstyles.

I will just buy the games I think my PC will handle it, if not tiem fer a naow campootah. Maybe Bethesda and Valve are competitors so its not on Steam.

Fallout 3 is the only SP game I haven't finished but still want to, thanks to me finishing Bioshock a month or two ago. HL2 and its eps I finished a year ago or more, but I replay them from time to time on hard now (I did them on medium the first time).

Well, there are other SP games I DO need to finish at some point (like Overlord, Warcraft III, Halo, Supreme Commander, etc...) but I don't feel much rush to do so like I did with HL2/Bioshock/Fallout 3. Those are the trinity of great SP games in the past few years, to me.

I'll settle for #42 at 36,000.
