Here is my obscure problem:
I am running Windows XP SP2
----------
On startup the monitor displays the usual Packard Bell logo but with thick purple/blue lines spaced apart running vertical through it.
Then it displays a screen full of exclemation marks ! all over the screen.
After that it will give me the choice of how I want to boot the computer (but with letters replacing other letters and the screen still filled with exclamation marks! ...Windows becomes Wiodows?).
I had it sorted the other day by using system restore to revert back to wednesday's settings, which worked up to today.
Then today I noticed a yellow glow round the cursor made of thin yellow vertical lines - very similar to the packard bell logo during the problem! I opened a few programs and noticed almost all had some decolouration(?) or vertical coloured lines somewhere.
So I restarted the computer and yet again back to square one.
I originally thought it was a hardware issue due to the monitors odd output but now I realise it proberbly isn't due to a system restore mending the issue. I think it could be a virus but Norton hasnt picked anything up (well theres a supprise!). We bought the computer from PC world so we do not have access to the windows xp disk to recover the computer.
I am currently restoring it back to wednesday again which will, atleast , buy me sometime to fix it.
I would really aprechiate some of your knowledge in how to resolve this issue because, as you know, it could cost money to fix!! - Which will not please my dad!
