That Illuminati pyramid symbol on the back of American dollar bills??? That's my first guess when taking that 'one-seeing-eye' into account... and the fact that this riddle supposedly has to do with politics.
I guess the organization that concieved it might symbolize a "non-traditional" movement that "lies deep within"... as in a secret movement that lies deep within American society, politics, etc. The secrecy behind that organization might correspond to "can only be viewed at certain times"... or the fact that you're usually not always looking at a dollar bill...
I guess the four-sided pyramid of that symbol could correspond to "four legs"???
Well... that's probably way off from the answer you have in mind... but I don't care... I love working on riddles.

Seriously e-mail one of them. Seeing as how Tom posted that Sugar Industry article a long time ago on the front page, he might post this.
Ugh. Why did I have to be born in this day and age?
Advice to all of you: Don't ever have kids. The world only gets worse from here on in.

You got it, slizor.. Once long ago I wanted to go work as a journalist because I thought I could change the world by making people see what really happened. Then I got in touch with real life and said fuck it, I am going to go work as a policymaker in the government instead because it is the only way other than being extremely rich and buying my way into politics that I can ever make a difference. I am so disgusted with the mass media most of the time. But then again I really really don't want to get my news from "independent" papers and magazines at either end of the spectrum, so I try and pick the most neutral sources I can find.. the BBC, the Economist, and NY Times. Ok ok many people would call those bastions of the far left, but come on people, what else are you gonna read??
I used to dwell alot on that question... but then I came to the realization that the only successful, mass produced news sources around these days are by necessity 90%+ lies. Why? Because the "truth" simply does not sell. I'll usually read whatever I see lying around... right-wing, left-wing, or whatever... but I take it ALL with a grain of salt.
In my opinion, having ideological bias in your choices of news media is nothing but choosing certain half-truths from a sea of half-truths....
Thoughts?

Warning labels are ok which say dont show this to your 5 year old son because it includes pornography, but editing commercials, films, etc just for the american sensibility is just paying ridiculous homage to america's puritan roots. Grow up already, jeez.. I want to see those hilarious ikea commercials on network tv. Besides how is it that ocuntries like norway and sweden get to see all this "naughty" material and they have way fewer problems with sex crimes in their countries? hm?
Ditto. (I'm too lazy to express it in my own words. So sue me ;) )
Probably one of the WORST cases of censorship I have heard of is where some public schools are not allowed to have reading materials that depict extensively the existence of dinosaurs. Proponents of the move claim that having children read extensively about dinosaurs might create future bias in their views on the Evolution vs. Creationism debate.
When I hear about stuff like that, I find myself strongly compelled to do the following:

You're talking as if "they" don't have any self-restraint. You're talking as if "they" are just a bunch of horny animals ready to have their way at the first available opportunity. You're talking as if the "men" you don't think are not "comfortable" with "them" could never learn to adjust and become more tolerant.
Would you also advocate a law that says men and women shouldn't work together in the same occupation for fear that they'll succumb to temptation?

Have you guys heard about the industry's plan to unleash computer viruses intended to infect the computers of music "pirates?" Here's a link in case you're interested:

It's pre-meditated. Thirty years for the first offense, life for the second.
I somewhat agree with you.
I guess the general extent of physical trauma could be one determining factor... since a greater punishment could be inflicted upon someone who gives their victim an STD... or makes them pregnant and forces them to deal with the question of whether they should have an abortion...
As for mental trauma: If the victim is raped repeatedly (either by the same person or by others), held captive for an extended period of time (weeks, months)...

You just helped clarify my own point. What's the point of witholding help if they're going to to do it anyway and it's ultimately "impossible" to stop someone who's determined enough from doing it anyways?
If someone... anyone... regardless of mental of physical state... wants to die, it should be so that they can do it as quietly, cleanly, and painlessly as possible. I for one could care less about clinics offering to kill you for a nominal fee... or better yet, suicide booths on city streets.
Now, I may seem very cold and heartless to you but... when you get to be a little older... you'll understand what I'm saying... and why I would say it.
Cheers.

I guess mine are more or less the same as Ted's. Except, in cases where a fine can't be paid: hard labour. Oh, and nothing for Cannabis drugs as I don't think they're worth the law enforcement resources.
Except, you know what a *really* good punishment for especially heinous crimes against specific victims would be? Through some invention of virutal reality, make them re-live the crime through the victim's eyes/mind.

You can't run away from such a commitment as childern.
Some parents will do it anyways. What difference does it make whether it happens in a hospital or in their own bathtub?
Who are we to deny someone the right to kill themselves simply because they cannot do it themselves?

Even Dogma? What didn't you like about that one? The gutter humour? His views on religion? Alanis Morissette?
Even if shit-demons and sexist jokes aren't your thing, there's still plenty of genuine social critique...

Hmmm... don't think I've seen that one... but a great (and misunderstood) movie I've seen that adresses the field of existential philosophy (and so many other things) is _Breakfast of Champions_, based on the Kurt Vonnegut novel of the same name. It's basically a post-modern view of western society and it's many, many, *MANY* problems. I recommend reading the book before seeing the movie; I've never seen a single movie that does any justice to the book it's based on.

I'm sure that if you just stick to forums limited to certain topics you'll have a *MUCH* easier time moderating the BBS.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking as I typed my idea. Except maybe when the people who post topics like "OGM MY COK IS HRD" see that there is no longer any forum that allows people to post anything they feel like, they won't post it. Now, I *know* that's a far-fetched assumption, but the spammers/attention-whores situation will not get any better when you have a board that technically allows people to post "... or whatever!" ...

Here's a suggestion:
I think this General board should be scrapped all together. Or even just cut down its volume. It's become bloated, boring, useless and a waste of site resources. Apparently, when some people read the "... or whatever" part of the General board description, it translated in the minds to "... be an attention whore and spam to your heart's content."
(BTW, that wasn't targeted at this thread, just topics such as "i'm not a n00b!" or "i h8 u all" that make me question why the NG mods haven't already gone insane and thrown themselves off a tall building already.)
I don't know about you guys, but I'd be more than willing to give it up if it meant an increase in overall site performance...
Hey Ted, you're a mod so I'll ask you:
Are there any plans whatsoever to increase the functionality of the BBS? I think we could use some EDIT and DELETE buttons for our posts. Now I know such features wouldn't likely be used by people who's entire posts consist of something like "OGM BSUH!"- but I think they would be really useful for those of us who want to correct stupid mistakes or delete posts and threads that we later decide were dumb.
