Well, I don't know why you were on it in the first place because it's required for you to have 500 posts, but you were removed due to inactivity.

changed accounts... I had 5000+ posts.

I'd appreciate it if you put me back on.

working on this currently, i dunno how much I should really tone down the shadows and highlights, i originally did them like that just so I had an idea where to place them, but i kinda like how it looks, obviously tidy it up and detail it more but what do you think

I know this isn't exactly an ideal place to ask this, but if given the choice what would you have on your jersey? I'm about to get a new jersey and cannot decide what to get on the back.

- My name and my number
- My name and a players number
- A players name and number
- Nothing

MW = MW2 = BO

I'll start buying call of duty games again when they take more than a year to make it. Battlefield is the future of the FPS gaming world, although even EA are releasing a bit too quick for my liking.

Are you so used to being mollycoddled that you can't handle it when someone offers a frank criticism of your work?

i am very used to frank criticism, however when people do it properly they arent assholes about it :)

if its about snowboarding then I'm 100% sure I know a vast amount more
The discussion was about advertising, not snowboarding.

the advert is for the snowboarding industry...

the full page ads are usually brand ads and not the retailer ads so showing their individual product being ridden by one of their pro team is how they usually work
the full page ads that are retailer ads usually put pictures of the individual products but still stick with the brand logos featuring

I also noticed some tapering on the "Lifestyle" toward the top, but nothing else tapers. It breaks the flow.

i was originally going to do the font as like a big stone effect, hence the tapering, but since I changed the design I did try to do it just flat but it looked wrong

yeah I printed a few proofs, the landscape layout is a 6cm x 9cm and the fonts are suprisingly clear at that size, that and its a 300dpi image so it should print just fine

Otherwise it's fine. The thin outlines (on the ears in particular) and large voids on the face bug me when the ad is small, but it's more a personal preference.

the voids on the face bug me too but I couldnt figure out how to get rid of them without otherwise destroying the image :(

and the outlines on the ears dont seem to bad scaled

the "fridge magnet" one has the logos of the brands on it, its obvious what all of them are.

stop being an asshole for the sole reason of you not understanding what you're talking about.

Response to: Layout Question Posted May 26th, 2011 in Art

-sigh-

It seems both of you are missing the point of where this is being advertised entirely. It is in the advert section of a national snowboarding magazine.

The premise of what the advert is for is obvious as it is on the page for snowboard retailers, I'd understand if this was going up on bus stations or in newspapers but it is not, it is going in a magazine with a specific reader demographic.

At 5/26/11 10:00 AM, Aigis wrote: One of what I assume are the golden rules of advertising is that you shouldn't have to work to find out what sort of place or product an advert is promoting.

No. The golden rules of advertising are to be attention grabbing and memorable.

The logos around the sides are secondary information to be viewed after the reader has noticed the advertisement. This is common practice in skate & snowboard retail advertising as it tells the consumer if said retailer stocks products relevant to the consumers needs / wants.

uninformative web address that I can infer that the shop sells... Skateboard stuff? Maybe? Uh... Shoes?

I doubt it could be any more informative, without being www.we-sell-snowboards-skateboards-cloth ing-outerwear-sunglasses.co.uk

so yeah. Thank you "Havegum" for actually giving me feedback that I needed. "Agis" you were just generally unhelpful and a pain.

well im glad I did my job properly then seeing as it does grab your attention ;) its advertised in snowboard magazines so its not THAT necessary to put a snowboarding image on there. That and all the other shops do that so to stand out on the advert page you have to be different.

I don't like how the number is just floating up to the top-right corner though.

yeah I'm not too keen on that either, I have to add a web address in too, so somehow I have to figure it out :(

Apart from that I think it's a pretty good layout.

cheers :)

Layout Question Posted May 26th, 2011 in Art

I am doing the design work for my local skate/snowboard shop's winter advertising campaign.

The larger image on the right was the original 12.8x9 layout I drew up, but was asked to provide a 9x6 layout to accompany it.

However I am unsure about how I ended up laying it out, does it look too cramped or does it look good enough to go to press?
