No, because it's simply a number. Someone who judges you based of a few digits rather than what you say isn't worth the time and effort spent trying to impress them.
It gives your teachers and proffesors an idea of what level you are working at and what you can achieve, what your strong points are and what you can improve on. It helps them decide what they should be teaching the class and what method to use when teaching it, and it helps separate the hard-working students from those who don't put any effort in.
