high cheek bones usually look pretty asian. your style really doesn't allow much for non-stereotypical asians. try do draw the eyes like rounded parolellograms leaning outward from the center of the face. that's the best advice i can give, hope it helps. you could always google image pictures of asians if you don't mind using porn as a reference for faces.

i'm not sure if you're commenting on the rough edges it has right now or the inward curve of the sides. the rough edges are there because i'm still working on this and haven't gotten to smoothing everything out yet. the inward curve is there to give it a surreal look. the road has to look very, very long and straight edges just didn't do the trick. i might even deepen the curve before this is done, i'm still not entirely satisfied with it.

my problem was making the shading on the back of the rocks distinguishable from the shadows on the ground, which i believe i've solved now.

nice art, i especially like the journal. you could sell that as a sticker, i'd put them on everything.

aging can be done using textures and off colours... making a monotoned / gradient colour is a good start then adding textures and shading ontop to show cracks, dirt and weathering...

please don't criticize an unfinished piece, of course it's not perfect. i still need to add texturing to everything and there are several things that aren't even in this draft yet. i believe i've solved my shadow problem (there's a difference between shadows and shading, btw) but it's still open if anyone has any more suggestions. my only problem now is the road lines, which you addressed but didn't quite answer. you said what makes them look old, i need to know how to make them look old.

btw, here's an updated version. i lightened the shadows and i think it looks much better. my sand still has no depth, but the shadows look much more defined from the shading. please let me know if you think the same, i've been staring at it for the past day and a half so i can't really trust my opinion.

thanks for the tips, i tried to give the road a bit of a texture with the dirt spots and they get smaller as they get farther away. i have been trying to do an asphalt texture, though.
i see what you mean about the sand, now that i look at it the sand looks like walls on the side of the road. that's probably what's making my shadows look wrong, the rocks are really far away and the sand looks like it's really close but there's a shadow on the sand from the rocks. it's kind of hard to give the sand depth, i'm using charcoal to give it the grainy texture and the size of the little holes aren't adjustable as far as i know. maybe increasing the pressure of the spreader would do it...

i've been working on a piece for the past several hours, and i've come to shadows. usually my light source is in front of the object being drawn, but in this one it's behind. i can't figure out how to make the shadows on the object look different than the shadows it's casting on the ground. also, i'm trying to make road lines look aged and worn and i'm having a bit of trouble. any tips?
here's what i've got so far. this one is with the screwed up shadows, if you want to see it without let me know and i'll post it. a note to the mods, i won't be able to put a different picture in every post because i only have two or three finished ones. if that's going to be a problem then please direct me to a place where it won't.

i've been waiting more than a day now and my song still hasn't been approved by the mods. songs that were submitted after mine have, though. do they usually do them out of order or have i been accidentally skipped? if i don't get approved, do i receive some kind of message letting me know or does the message about my submission not being approved yet just stay there forever? i know this is going to be locked in like 5 seconds, but please answer first :(

and what powers will these new mods have? will they be able to instantly delete any flash submission on the portal? just those that are under judgement? or simply have louder whistles?

if the first is true, the DD could simply hack one of the mods, as they have done to the forum mods. we can't give them that kind of power. imagine all of the good flash that could be lost. they could even delete classics submitted by currently inactive users and they would be lost forever. if this kind of power is given to the mods, other mods should have the power to recommend things for resurrection to prevent the permanent loss of good submissions. also, every mod should have an hourly deletion limit, although this would make DD deletions less noticeable. i think there should also be some kind of age limit and anything past that limit cannot be deleted by mods. possibly a week or so.

as for under judgement, this would require much fewer limits than for the first one. a deletion limit wouldn't be practical, as any submission to pass judgement would have to be deleted by an admin. with the short time flashes are under judgement, if a mod met his limit a bad flash could get past before he can delete it. this poses another problem however, if a mod is hacked the DD can delete every new submission to the portal instantly. this is not as serious a problem as if classics were delete as mass deletion would make the mod stand out and the flashes could simply be re-uploaded.

if flashes can only be flagged for later deletion by an admin(not flagged by an admin, deleted by an admin), it would make it much easier on them as they wouldn't have to watch/play every submission, only the ones flagged by the mods. this would limit the power of the mods a lot, though. if a submission is stolen, there is about as much chance of one mod blowing the whistle as there is of enough users blowing the whistle for it to get reviewed.

whichever way this is done, it will take a lot of thought to make sure a hacker couldn't cause too much trouble.

I want to start a ShamWow collab. i recently bought a pack of them while standing in the checkout at walmart and found out that they actually aren't as bad as everyone says they are. hell, they're pretty damn absorbent. anyway, i want to start a collab about the shamwow. please post ideas here or message me with them. you have to be able to animate them! i'll message you if i like your idea. i don't want this to be a massive three-hour flash so the top 20 will be selected. three of those spots are already filled by me so it's only 17 now. i hope i see some really funny stuff from this :)
