Response to: how much did you pay for flash Posted June 24th, 2006 in Game Development

I think the mods really need to crack down on shit like thins. I've seen at least five threads recently with people suggesting or even encouraging piracy, and the posts seem totally overlooked.

Dude, do you have any knowledge of AS? You don't just use tutorials all the time.

I actually quite like the charrecters. You need to give each individual his own shade of green-blue.

I agree. Alan got exploited and ripped off. It's a shame that eFag can manipulate people by simply throwing small parts of his ill-gotten gains at them, and that noogai is worst off out of all of this.

Apparently he's sending the money back now he's realised how royally cheated he is.

BTW, Manta is with a capital letter, because it is an hover vehicle from UT2004.

It's considered bad form to start names with capitals in scripting :P

Response to: 2Questions Posted June 23rd, 2006 in Game Development

The first code didn't work because AS is case sensitive. I'm suprised that none of these other pro scripters picked up on that. It's play(), not Play(). As for the second one, RBC's should work fine.

Nothing about cache as bitmap :(

It should be under an optimisation topic. It basically saves Flash from having to redraw complex vector based images over simple movement.

Response to: Protecting Flash from Theft Posted June 23rd, 2006 in Game Development

The problem is that none of the important parties relating to stolen material are particularly supportive of the animator. You have:

1. The dirty, thieving eBaumesque file snatcher.
This guy doesn't give two shits about what kind of laws your software is protected by. He's found a way to get real well known and make quite a bit of money with minimum effort or risk, by taking other peoples work.

2. The unigue visitors.
A lot of these guys may be simply unaware that the work is stolen, but a large proportion consists of assholes who just don't care. In a modern setting where creative works are acessible to everyone, be they songs, films or flash works, few people spare a thought for the creator who's losing out any more.

3. The legal side.
These guys are realists. In cases of online theft it's almost invariable more trouble and expense than it's worth to take serious action against people who steal content. Untill laws relating to this sort of stuff get a major tightening, few will be willing to make an effort to pursue such action.

You see, people who actually care about copyrights and junk on the internet are in a minority, being mainly the creators or the actual content and people who are capable of some sort of empathy. Because of this, even such a blatant warning in the work probably wouldn't do a lot of good.

Do it about a magical penis and his eternal quest to find the mystical melon of ejaculation! On the way he is helped by many friends, including the enchanted Y-fronts, and the infinite hair gel of smexiness. You could call it: Lord of the Penors; Fellowshp of the Cuntmelon. It would be swell!

At 6/22/06 03:27 AM, -Mogly- wrote: I like it, but heres some things to maybe think aboot:

- Colour of the background, bright blue is rubbish

Yeah, because the sky is never blue :P The background looks fine - it reflects the time of day and is perfect for an opening shot.

- Make blade fall IN grass rather than on like someone else said

That's a good idea. You should make it so the blade sticks in the ground a bit so people don't notice the 2D-ness of it so much, too.

- Maybe lower the blur amount. It looks a bit over the top. Or put it on higher quality.

I agree with that. You should use blurs sparingly.

I hope people don't start posting there two seconds too now, please dont let it be the next fad :(

Glark.

Naw I don't think so.

You don't think so because you did the script wrong. I think Moggers was onto something.

on(press){
_root.gotoAndStop("Scene1", Math.ceil(Math.random() * #Number of frames in scene);

The scene name and frame number could be the other way around. I don't tend to work with scenes because they suck major donkey balls.

Fuck, I need to go play some Oddysey and Exodus now. Those were such class games! The golden era of gaming, that was! Tomb Raider was good, Final Fantasy wasn't old and people didn't care that they didn't have half of their little consoles devoted to shading! Ahh, memories.
