Yes.

People have a problem with that too--
This was especially a big thing for Bush... Sam T does a parody of it a few years back where bush says, "9-11"-- and the ratings go up.

But I guess people get more vocal when it comes to terms with money. A tragedy needs, really, enough time where it's not so "direct".

In that way people could enjoy the movie without 1.) wondering where the money goes, 2.) for what puposes it's being created.

Titanic was a sad event, but nobody made a big whoopla about it was made into a movie because of the lapsed time.

Is it just me? Or is it just that no one cares that the people who control our country (in both politics and entertainment) have free license to exploit what ever tragedies they would like to in order to advance their goals because we have given up caring -- and the only time we give a damn about it is when money is involved?

Isn't that just a little materialistic? A bit?

Actually--
Not completly true.

There is a lot of incentives to pay taxes.
And immigrants can pay them without fear of deportation by getting a tax ID number. They can report their earnings, and keep whatever records they recieve.

The incentives:
easier to get citizenship.
easier to buy a house.
easier many things...

And there are substancial illegal immigrants who pay taxes.
New stastics are supposedly coming out for this year next year.

you say that you are third generation immigrant. I am fine with you here. Here's my problem:

My great-great-grandparents left Europe for the same reasons that people are leaving Mexico today. Because it was bad, and the life they were living was no to their liking. My great-great-grandfather was send back to Europe twice, and yet he returned LEGALLY, and managed to make a name for himself in this nation, when Jews were hated. He started one making nothing and today we are fine. He payed the taxes just like the children of those people who came here on the Mayflower. That is my main problem. That these immigrants are not contributing to this nation. We have to pay for their health care, children's schooling, food stamps (if they need them) and other things. That's not fair. They should have to work their asses off like my ancestors did to succeed here.

That's peachy to know-- however, I haven't said anything about immigration in the US. I don't even make a stance in my post if illegal immigration is positive or negative.

However,
thanks for contributing... maybe someone else will respond to you since I didn't write anything about on the issue. However-- there are several threads out there already on this.

However, he tried his hardest to learn English, he wanted to blend in as much as possible because he knew that that was how he could make it here. He learned English, spoke Yiddish (or Spanish) in his home, and he lived the "American" dream. Yes there were Irish gangs, yes there was and is a Mafia, but their initiations weren't kill some people and then get high. They were "classy" killers, and didn't shoot people on the highway. Yes I know you will mention the KKK and what not, but they are 1in 10000. That is the same with the Mexican gangs. They are only 1 in 1000, but it still is not okay.

I really don't know why were getting into gangs...

The rallies:
Here's all I can say: If you want to stay here and be "normal" don't not go to school and work and don't carry around a Mexican flag. Because being wrapped in green, red, and white doesn't scream out "I'm an American"

And being forced to wear red, white and blue unwillingly, or to be forced to sacrafice one's cultural identity is... American?

And now today's big issue:
Nuestro Hijo:

"Himno". Hijo is 'son'.

Sing the anthem in whatever F***ing language you want. Just let the English version be sung at our baseball games and at our schools. Sing the American national anthem in English and the Mexican or Cuban in Espanol.

The song wasn't being pushed to replace anything.
People are upset it's was created-- period.
Which is very stupid.

Basically, all I can say is...it's not fair that Mexicans can sneak in and be illegal. When 260 million of us had to do it legally. Just a tid bit of info...Roosevelt turned around a boat full of Jews avoiding the Holocaust. He turned it around and when they arrived in Germany they were shot. There was a quota. Personally I think that Roosevelt made a horrible mistake. Now I think if the American people turned that boat around, we can have the guts to turn around the ILLEGAL, not the LEGAL immigrants sneaking in today.

Roosevelt also had men round up several thousands of Mexicans and Americans that looked like Mexicans... and deported them-- very often illegally.

It didn't matter if they were natural born citizens. If they looked Mexican, they were rounded up with Brazeros and shipped out.

And there are several that are still alive today to remember this. My adoptive grandmother for one, who was a little girl who didn't know any Spanish when she was shipped to Mexico without her family.

But.. why are you bringing up Roosevelt, when I wrote about peoples' discontent that Mexicans translated the Star Spangle Bannder?

Do you think this would get as big as this if the premise was that?

Seriously, to use the proverbial saying more or less, take it straight from the ass' mouth.

This isn't about citizenship rights--
It's about current legislation that would put literally whole families in prisons for several years because they're illegal immigrants.

At the same time, there is a strong push to reverse the nationality of those born here but have/had illegal immigrant parents. No bill passed as of late, but it's happened. (You can read a previous post on this attempt-- although the news link has been obviously removed since then.) So essentially-- if I fight-- I'm fighting as an American because my own government is attempting to literally rip my family apart by putting them in prison.

Again--

I don't believe this is a "taxation without representation" type of situation--
Gutierrez compares their struggle with that of American colonists against British rule more than 200 years ago.

"The great slogan of the American Revolution was 'No Taxation Without Representation,'" he said. "Millions of human beings today and for many years are being taxed, and they have absolutely no representation. In fact, they are being bashed every day and humiliated."

The anthem shouldn't be changed. If you want to do it ina different language, do it on your own time. Don't make America any less patriotic then it has become.

Changed?
Nobody is forcing the United States to adopt this spanish version of the song.

It was created for people by people who feel patriotic.
It does not make the United States "less patriotic" than "it has become."

The United States complain how immigrants don't want to be assimulated.
Immigrants have proven the contrary. Not only do they accept this country with open arms, they've been brave enough to fight for it. First person to die for this lousy war? Not American-- a wetback. Yet, his death is forgotten. Not even I can't remember his name.

But what the fucking hell do they want if immigrants are accepting America? That they lose their culture, language, food? Name their babies Billy Bobs? Eat Pizza and Beef Stroganoff? Show neither propensity nor appitude to learn more than one language?
Pfft--

It's just fucking amazing.
The only "less patriotic" that's happening in here is the America's need to meddle in peoples' way of life if it doesn't follow their own.

And yet--
These immigrants are still fucking proud enough to sing the anthem, albiet it's in Spanish. God bless them, the persecuted.

Why not call it "American Anthem"? That translates well, no? Also it would show how much they truly do want to be concidered American

Because it ceases to be "ours"-- but broken up to "theirs".
Latinos consider themselves to be Americans, although they don't fit the usual profile-- so it becomes much more important to emphasize that they're part of the culture too. Hence, "ours". Both sides are equal.

No matter the language or the musical arrangment of it, the National Anthem is the National Anthem. Being so bold as to try and claim a version as their own makes me feel even more like Immigrants don't want to try and fit into American culture.

I welcome all legal immigrants and I think it's wonderful to preserve their culture, as long as it does not get in the way of them fitting into US culture. I think this is a perfectly easy thing to ask.

Okay--
First it's like, "Illegal immigrants don't want to integrate! If Mexico is so great, go back then."

They overlook the fact that so many Mexican illegal immigrants do want to integrate, but maintain their own cultures too. That there were more Stars and Stripes flying during these protests instead of the red and green eagles.

Today a new Spanish song came out,
a Spanish version of the Star Spangle Banner. It's called, "Nuestro Himno". (Our Anthem). (Star Spangle Banner doesn't translate very well in Spanish...)

With distinctive "Banda" guitar and accordian dapple towns.
So fucking narly--

So wTf?
People are complaining.

Actually Grace-- that's like WAY too competitive for me... I'm really down to earth, and I've seen the ARS competitions a few years ago. I submitted a Queen Elizabeth bloom in the amateur category. Nope-- nada...

I know it sounds weird, but those guys are truly hardcore.
They wake up at six to water their garden and pick off bugs. They spray. They fertilize. They pick off nearly all flowers from a bush so that one bloom becomes huge.

And if something happens to that flower-- tough luck.

Nope... I'm like my grandma before she passed away. If it's pretty, edible, or nice-- and doesn't require too much attention-- then plant it.

Anyways-- I'm growing a jacaranda tree right now. It's six years old and it outgrew it's pot. I'm going to plant it on the lawn. It will be nice when I have children, I will tell them, "I grew that tree from seed." Or my grandchildren if I'm lucky.

I got the seeds when I went to Mexico, and the Jacaranda grew in front of my grandparents house. Now that they're dead, this is the only living thing I have from them that I will always remember. My grandpa took me to a place where he grew an apple tree by spitting a seeding into the earth.

I like these types of stories...
