This isn't a "big government" situation because I think non-smokers just got fed up when we couldn't savor our food because we're smelling nasty ass smoke. We want to go to social night functions without smelling like smoke at the end of the night.

However, I think we ought to be fair too.
Allow some areas designated for smokers, you know. Which need to be a wide open place that's far away from non-smoking areas. (An outdoor cannopied patio, or up-stairs smoke room are good ideas.)

Otherwise... I think the right for air is greater than the right to smoke.
I can't simply escape from a person who's smoking, at least not in the same room. But a smoker can always smoke at home, or other areas of privacey.

*eye rollie*

First off, ANY regulation can be deemed "unconstitutional." We don't have a seperation of business and government clause anymore.

If there was... then we would still have the Industurial Revoltion, child exploitation, loooooooong hours with no maximium, no pay with a minimum, and etc. Government regulates all those, and if they do... then why not smoking?

No.
It isn't unconstitutional to ban smoking at businesses.

Okay, that's agreed upon.
However, I think you're under the impression that bars = smoking. How horrible is not smoking at a bar is? Maybe if they allowed a back area for smokers. I know gay bars have BEAUTIFUL back door canopied gardens for smokers that's lush with green foilage and vines. The rest of the area is smoke free.

Why can't that be applied to other places?

If a non-smoker doesn't want to be exposed to smoke at a bar, then it's a simple matter of not going over to the smoking section. Allowing smoking in bars is much more unfair to people who want to avoid smoking. The most fair choice to keep bars smoke free, unless it's a place meant for smoking. Or have bars that cater to smokers.

In fact, those ciggarette club stores... why can't they extend the business so it can be a bar at night?

It sounds like horse pokey still because, for starters, there is nothing wrong in stating that there are more non-Christians than Christians. That statistic isn't being slanted in any way. What is more, you could google these statistics up from a variety of sources.

In the most likely conclusion it was NOT a "bogus" number that he saw. It was something that he personally didn't like... and the only supposed agendas that exist are his own personal one against Liberals... and the imagination one that says that Liberals have an agenda.

What's happening is that the poster is so hyper-sentive conservative that any mention of a topic that has a history of contraversy will make him assume it has to be in either a good or bad light. EVEN if it's nothing at all in reality...

It's pretty redicules to think that the GED has a Liberal slant because a question states that there are more non-Christians than Christians.

First off, I think that statistically speaking, there are more non-Christians in the world. I've seen and heard that several times in my life.

And second, there's nothing "liberal" about saying that.
It's positively nothing. What-so-ever...

Until you can some how prove that stating there are more non-Christians than Christians in the world... you can't say that the GED is part of the Liberal Agenda for World Domination and Socialization.

But this doesn't matter. The fact is kids are becoming smarter and smarter as the years go bye.
Is there anything stopping this one kid from not knowing what he was doing? Of course not!
Isn't obvious that younger and younger children are committing crimes? And quite often as well?
For example my brothers girlfriends younger brother at the age of 10 caught there house on fire knowing full well of what he had done and why he did it. At age 10 this kid also occasionally shoplifted, smoked cigs, and probably got drunk on the weekends.

That is a whole lot of poppycock--
You're talking about a highly improbable situation where a young kid... so tactful, evil, and smart that he has some sort of agenda.

Seriously.
Think about it. Yes, kids often play with fire but this is curiousity. Yes, we have kids who play with fire because they're exhibiting deeply disturbing desires BUT such fires are not even on the scale like nearly all of Southern California and upper Mexico!

Then what kind of kid has an agenda that involves with fire? Children who exibit pryomanic tendencies usually contain their crime within family and friends (they usually burn their own homes down.) Mass destruction is something that's realistic.

So, if this is Stewie Griffin we're talking about or Henry Evans... or even young Hannibal Lecter-- I'm gonna say that mass (beyond mass, really) pyromania isn't something that young children plan.

Generally, if a kid will do something bad, then it's usually the "common evil" that they will pick such as stealing, smoking, drinking, sex, etc. And even then... these circumstances usually reflect a hectic and unstructured life full of troubles.

Think Maury Povich Show kinda of stuff.

Do you not have a slant towards wanting the kid set free? Of course you do we wouldn't be arguing if you didn't.

No, but he ought to face an APPROPRIATE sentence... one that is free from HEAVILY OPINIONATED minds that aren't realistic. We can't make up motives and impose them on him, and expect him to serve a punishment that would ultimately destroy his life. I'm not talking about letting him go scotch free--

but let's not make this thing more complicated than it should. The most probable cause is that the kid liked playing fire and it got out of control. Beyond this situation, the only people who can diagnos him are psycologists.

Response to: Practical use for prisoners Posted November 11th, 2007 in Politics

Everyone, even the most despicable, ought to have their human rights.
How are we better if we deny theirs when they've denied them to their victims?

Work should be 8 hour days, 40 hour max.
And it should not be pointless... but work that's does something.

Making toys...
knitting scarves and sweaters...
growing food, farming...

etc.

And I don't think that excessively dangerous people ought to work-- light term prisoners, and those who are least likely to harm people. People with good people skills, and a WANT to work and earn money.

In that way,
they could afford some luxuries such as TVs and snacks if they've got the money.

I forgot which prison this was, but that's what they do. Prisoners work... and they buy their own flat screen TV. (Although-- they got to be clear and of a certain brand so that stuff can't be hidden in them.) Not only do prisoners get a sense of accomplishment, but they are generally more docile and thus easier and safer to handle.

Yet for some reason this attached capability of knowledge falls when the situation is different? Why is it this way? Sympathetic guilt on your part?

Ask yourself...
What kind of self interests does pyromania serve for a 10 year old kid? At that age, you know well enough to not play with fire. But kids still play someimes until... they get burned.

Some guys need to piss on the electric gate to know not to piss there...
