It's always been like this, drug use is misrepresented in the media and sensationalised in our arts, as you mentioned, music, film ect.
As for weed. Everyone smokes weed, it's not a "bad drug" at least not in the same class as cocaine or ecstacy, it's much more like cigs or booze and hopefully our increasing trend of cannabis smokers it will be legalised :)
