Can I just say that it would really help me out if you could post in this thread instead of PMing me directly, just so it's easier for me to find you all, my inbox is a bit of a swamp at the moment. *
And also be prepared to read your emails on the 8th of January, if I don't get a speedy response back from anyone I pick I may have to go with someone else :(

Thanks for your PM @real sketchy I'll just pop your details here for my own reference

Multiple male Voice Actors needed for a High Quality production for early 2015
Hello good people of newgrounds VA forum!
First off I'll just tell you a little about myself and my project.
I've been hatching an idea for a personal project for the past 6-8 weeks, and in my opinion it's going to be the best thing I've ever produced. My mentality is that each animation I create must be better than the last one, and this project is the amalgamation of everything I've learned in the past 10 years of dicking around with animation including the last 15 months where I have been seriously focusing on freelancing as a career possibility. I am hoping that with this project I am going to land myself a junior position in a animation studio.
So far I've got the bare bones of the script and storyboard but I'm going to spend a little longer refining it, I've also got a composer on board for the original soundtrack, in the meantime I thought I would start the search for voice actors now so that when I've landed on the right storyboard I can get things going right away.
I am looking for about 4-6 passionate, talented and expressive voice actors for this.
Ideally you will need to be able to do a slightly older male character, although specific roles will vary depending on which character I want you to do. I will send each successfully applicant a full script, the animatic (animated storyboard), and character designs for their character. The roles will vary from rugged warriors, to drunk old armchair critics, to brash entitled aristocrats, I'll go into more detail when I send you the script.
Successful applicants will be contacted on - THURSDAY 8th of JANUARY, so I guess that will be the deadline for anybody submitting their demo-reel. I may be lenient with this date if their is a poor response / if there are any unexpected delays.
I'll be online to check this thread every couple of days if there's any questions, look forward to hearing your lovely voices! Good luck
All the best,
Sam

Very weird... because changing to Stream will 100% fix your problem. What version of Flash are you using? Maybe update the version you have or do a re-install? :/
Just passing by to say SadistMonkey is a bigoted, sad angry wankgoblin.
I'd go into further detail but I have better things to do.
who's the bigger idiot, the idiot or the man who tries and reason with the idiot...?
Everyone else have fun :) x

You need to change the SYNC settings in your Properties tab from Event to Stream.
I'd also reccomend going into your Library, getting into the properties of your sound file and changing the compression to ADPCM, unselect converst stero to mono and put everything on the highest sample rate and ADPCM bits. This should help the export quality of your audio.
Hey gang,
I'm just starting to learn Maya Autodesk, and I'm sure anyone familiar with it must know how complicated everything looks to a novice!
If you've got any good basic tutorials / exercises you found useful then send them my way pretty please!
Cheers xoxox
I like your work.
And I am working on a personal project which I plan to finish by the end of Febuary, and I would love to have you on the team as a composer.
I will send you a proper proposal when I have finished the storyboard animatic.
Hopefully we can work together

If he's just starting out I wouldn't want to confuse him with what 1s and 2s are. Jazza is okay, but from my experience of watching him he just seems to be a parrot for other animation material that he's read, unless you really hate reading I'd recommend going straight for the source.
The Animation Survival Kit is the bible for most start out animators it's by Richard Williams and you can probably find a copy online. There's also the Illusion of Life by Ollie Johnston and that's a little more about disney and its history but still a good read. Also people like adam Phillips jonny Utah and happy harry from newgrounds all have done a few good animation tutorials, cba googling them for you but if you're interested you can find it.
Aaaaaaand if you want a good primer animation software than you can't do better than flash, simple and intuitive, and you get a months free trial

I hope this isn't genuine, but if it is you really need to stop yourself doing something incredible stupid, I know that life can be hard sometimes and you can feel isolated and lonely. But trust me it DOES get better, your emotions can be like the weather, you can't control them but it always gets better eventually. Try and find some family or friends you can talk things out with, and if you don't have any on hand right now please feel free to private message me, life has so so much to offer, so don't throw it all away in a moment of misjudgment :(
I've just started researching and designing characters for a gladiator / Roman based animation project.
I'm playing with ideas at this stage, and am looking at what styles sell commercially within this genre. And what designs I like.
So far I've only got the 1997 disney film Hercules, and the asterix and obelix comic book character, I'm drawing a blank thinking of any other examples.
So halp? Anyone think of any other gladiator or Roman animations / cartoons / comics or films that they like?

Basically nobody wants to read a wall of text, and although your idea isn't terrible you aren't providing much in terms of structure, project brief, style requirements, storyboards or budget, I'm guessing you're not paying?
Believe me absolutely every animator who is serious enough to animate this project properly for you already has a million potential ideas that they do not have time to work on themselves. Coming up with an idea is about 5% of the creative process, the real hard work is the animation and the refinement, so you aren't offering a appealing opportunity to most people on here.
The flash trial is free and there's everything you need to know about how to animate In tutorials available for free on YouTube, I suggest if you're passionate about the idea then have a stab at making it yourself

Nice to hear something from the heart red, I don't think we conversed much back in the day but I recognise your name. It's nice that newgrounds has a soft spot for you too, and I agree it feels like 'home' to me in as much as any website can feel like home.
Since you shared, I'll tell you abit about my relationship with newgrounds. I don't think I'd be where I am in my career now without newgrounds. The only reason I got into animation was because I had an old friend on here who got a daily 5th place award in like 2004 and when I was a teenager I guessed I was trying to one up him and make my own crappy movies. And now I've been freelancing professionally for 15 months and have landed work experience at a studio that makes Disney/Pixar content. I know that without newgrounds I would have never come close to doing that with my life.
It hurts me to see newgrounds wilt under the monopoly of youtube, this site is an important part of Internet history and it fucking deserves to be bigger and more respected than it is. In no small part due to the amazing supportive community we have here. <3

Hey OP, I think I know what your problem is, but you've been very wordy with your query! Would you mind posting an example of your work so we can see what your problem is?
The most common way of animating a character full motion is to have separate layers for body, arms, legs, hands etc. but hand-drawing everything fbf does make the whole thing hold together better for certain styles, there's no right or wrong way of doing it.

I got paid about $1000-$1500 for this - Music video (I forget how much £/$ conversion rates are).
Tbh as soon as I heard the offer I snapped it up because at that point I'd never been paid that much for a animation before, ever. But looking back on it I definitely undercharged them because it took me months and months to finish, not to mention I had to make characters and storyboard. It was a good learning experience.
In terms of pricing I guess what's most important is to know your quality level, a guy like Jazza can get away with charging $700 - $5000 per minute (depending on complexity) because his standard is quiet high and he's got the demand for it. If you're a novice animator working from a home studio in your parents basement then you're probably going to have to take on smaller jobs for less pay.

You need to look at it from the studio's point of view, if they are any good then they will be busy working on projects, and they won't have time to waste training a novice animation when they might not pick it up quickly or may even not be very good.
By making them a showreel it shows you are serious, and have a passion for being an animator, it also shows them where your skill level is at. By doing work experience anywhere you're basically saying 'I want to peruse this as a job', so you need to be sure that's what you want to do, if you've never seriously animated before how do you know you really want it?
I've just been accepted to do some work experience in a studio that makes Disney / Pixar content, and it took me about 15 months of freelancing and a good few years playing with flash to get to this stage :)
Thanks guys, stay tuned for my follow up thread, 'does anyone have any good tutorials for maya?'

Sorry for bugging but I have a few more questions if you can help a brother out.
Sometimes when I'm drawing in frame 1 there are random red dots on the screen, what the fuck are they doing?
Also, generally I like to draw with the freehand tool, but when it comes to colouring in a shape often AS doesn't understand where the boundries are meant to be and it won't colour anything in. Is there no 'close small gaps' tool like there is in flash?
After this project I don't see myself working with AS again, it's such a ball ache!
Eurgghh even copying keyframes and pasting them seems needlessly complicated!
At 11/14/14 08:15 AM, Celshaded wrote: Tips:
Make all your assets and pieces in a different program and then import and assemble them in Anime Studio instead of trying to use the terrible drawing tools. You can sort of "model" characters in AS using the shape tools, but it takes so long, I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you absolutely need your characters to be vector.
Completely agree, I'm having real trouble drawing what I want and being able even colour it in easily. It seems to want me to use their templated 'character wizard' tool with 1. takes all the creativity out of being an animator 2. which gives results that look awful.
I have post it note above my computer about what order to do stuff when rigging--
1. Make bone layers
2. Add character parts to bone layers
3. Make bones and bind parts last
There are tutorials on youtube where people go into further detail about rigging, but it took me a while to learn that if you don't follow that set of rules in that order, your rig won't come out right.
I'll try that method in my next scene.
Here's a test thing I did in AS not too long ago:
http://youtu.be/poGj-7RY0QU
Nice, looks good!
Was there anything else you wanted to know specifically?
I'm having problems with a bunch of things, one thing I'm finding annoying is when Iook at the timeline I don't see all the layers I want so I can't adjust them. I've got 6 bone layers that are moving different pieces of a body, but I can't adjust them all in the same timeline view, I have to click on each one individually to adjust :( which means it's hard to get everything animating together smoothly. Any suggestions?
Like I said, I'm a big noob, I've only been using this programme about a week, If you have any basic primer tutorials for AS from a proper experienced animator I'd appreciate really that. So far I've got by using this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8aC6YYlwjE

At 11/13/14 05:16 AM, RobertTaylor wrote: I always thought of Anime Studio as a program made for when westerners look up how to make anime. Is it actually any good?
So far I've not been struck by any anime related preferences, it's alright as a programme but it's taking some getting used to. They have a very powerful bone tool, a good shading option, a good lip sync tool anddd a button that sprays randomised shapes which I quiet like.
It's just that often it isn't as intuative as I'd like, and so many times I'm sat there going 'I wish I could do X' and not knowing how to. Simple things like filling in a colour or locking a layer :( I was hoping someone on here could point me in the direction of a decent animator doing a full tutorial
At 11/12/14 05:21 PM, SokkoTM wrote: Hey is anime studio for anime (manga-style)?
It doesn't even seem to be specifically geared towards Anime ? Which I found weird.
It seems to want you to rely more on rigging a 2D object with the 'bone tool' and animate by moving those around, rather than working frame by frame which I what I'm used to.
Hey trusted and beloved friends
I'm just starting a new project in Anime Studio, and to be honest I'm finding it hard to rewire the way I work coming from a mainly Flash / Toon Boom background.
Does anyone have any good tips tricks or pointers they could show me? So far I'm just getting by with trial and error and the odd youtube tutorial :(
Love you xxxx

In my opinion I think the institution of further education has changed massively within the past 20-30 years, these-days it's less about the pursuit of knowledge and more focused around education as a business model. It's saddling our generation with unprecedented amounts of debt, even if you end up dropping out or not attaining the qualifications you need.
This is happening alongside the boom of information and tutorials online, where you can pretty much educate yourself on whatever subject if you're so inclined, unless you want to go into Law or Medicinal or something similar. The only reason I can understand for why so many people opt to go the traditional College / Uni route is because of networking or 'the experience'.
