Okay, this isn't some thread geared towards having a flame war so put away your flamethrower's and Molotov's and read on.
So there seems to be a lot of disappointment surrounding the game, but I personally couldn't agree with that for a simple reason. Upon playing Prototype I felt something was odd. Something didn't seem to quite fit in, yet it seemed to work at the same time. After spending a while pondering what this was, it hit me.
It was the fact, that I could charge across a city, thundering along busy roads, leaping over cars and bolting up vertical walls and just....not stop.
Okay, so you don't have to stop, whats the big deal? Games such as Assassins Creed appealed to me because of the freedom they seemed to offer, being able to scale buildings and pull off matrix like "parkour". But looking back it all seemed so slow. You would charge, and make a desperate jump for a ledge, only to miss it and fall miserably to the ground. It makes the game feel so.. slugish.
This is why Prototype feels so much more superior, no painful falls and no walls deciding they want to be in your way at the most inconvenient time. Just freedom.
Some may disagree with this, and rightfully state that once you master Assassin's Creed and have the skill, you can avoid these sluggish encounters. And maybe that is what keeps you hooked on games, to get that much better so you can enjoy it that much more. Perhaps this could be the reason for the disappointment with prototype, you are given everything you want immediately, so there is not much new (apart from obvious upgrades etc) to engage the player.
All in all, the novelty of almost complete freedom will probably ware off in a day or two. But until that golden time ends, in my opinion, Prototype is fucking awesome.
