Time is nothing but a dimension. Which one? I don't know. But in the book Flatland, there is an interesting tidbit on the Time Dimension. If time is the 4th dimension, then a 4th dimensional being would have the power to manipulate the flow of time...

Ok, wise guy. If we raise the price to $3 a gallon, then what? My dad was investigated for raising his station's prices 2 cents during the Gulf War. If we do what you are asking, we would have angry mobs starting riots. Riots usually are not environmentally friendly. Also, gasoline taxes that exist now already go to road maintenence.
We won't run out of energy anytime soon. We need to drill in more places.
