Why do producers prefer macs? I know it's a stupid question, probably. But to be totally honest I'd like some opinions on the matter.
Thanks.
Here's my opinion on the matter: I don't really have one. If you enjoy everything about the operating system/computer you use, then stick with it. I grew up most of my life using Macs than any other OS/computer, and thus is perhaps the reason I use one to produce my music with.
With every OS there will be only certain music-making software that it will support. Two well known extremes in the case would be Logic is only supported on Mac (after Apple acquired eMagic, of course), while FL Studio is only supported in Windows (I have heard however that a particular version of FL Studio could run on a Mac under certain conditions; Image-Line without a doubt had to program their mobile version of FLS on a Mac).
I think my support of Apple, especially when it came to music became strong, after visiting Apple Stores/Guitar Centers multiple times playing around with GarageBand.
I still have use for PC/Windows software from time to time, which is perhaps why I have Bootcamp (XP) on my MacBook. Though, I have "cheated" on GarageBand a couple times checking out the FL Studio demo, I still strongly prefer using GB (just hope Apple builds on its mastering engine in the future).
SoundTeMP is a prime example of diversity among music producers. In an interview from one of the co-founders, it may have been debunked that the music producers in the SoundTeMP team, could be using both PCs and Macs, though games they worked on like Ragnarok Online are Windows-only games; Pro Tools, Cubase, and Sonar 7 were mentioned, while he also said that there were other MIDI-based digital sequencers they used as well; some songs were even done live.
Listening to the OST of RO, I couldn't tell you what DAW they used for each one (could be multiple at times!), as I haven't used any of the ones he mentioned.
I say all-in-all, it depends on what you like the most about whatever computer you use, and I do take some exception to the titling of this thread. iMacs have been great, but I think it'd be more appropriate to just say "Mac".
Choose what you're used to, bottom-line. Just because some rising stars use FL Studio, or that super awesome beat you heard was done by a demoscener on The Ultimate SoundTracker, doesn't mean you'll abolutely like using the computer/operating system, yourself.

Garage Band... meh.
You don't have to use an Apple computer. Really, I do apologize if non-Apple users feel alienated by the title of this thread. It's personally how I wanted the thread to lead itself in.
Any music making software (FL Studio, OpenMPT, Sibelius, etc.) will do, just so long as you attribute the song to Steve Jobs.
Certainly, this type of question would matter most to this lady.
It'd be between Crazy Taxi and Blue Stinger.
Crazy Taxi would be awesome! I mean so many laws of physics would be broken in that world, yet I wouldn't die, no matter what the cab driver did. I'd just love to go check out all the places in Arcade or Original (Pizza Hut, KFC, Fila), because they all seem to be awesome places to go.
With Blue Stinger being one of my most favorite games of all time, I'd get access to some of the most original and unique weapons of any game out there, perhaps get drunk at Rat's bar (though, I don't like drinking), perhaps help clean up the mess around the island, and finally get to find out what a Hassy tastes like!
I come across a thread on this forum with the title "I'm a Producer", and think maybe this person could help ME out, not the other way around; I do know that I may be of some help here.
Before any of us, let alone myself, can offer any realistic help, it'd be good to know the answer to a question or two:
1. What's your budget?
2. What type of computer will you be using (PC, Mac, Linux, etc.)?
3. Is your studio/work space going to be mobile-ready or just at home?
Heck
...or. really anyone whose felt touched by what Steve Jobs (of Apple Inc.) had accomplished in his life, here's your time to express how you felt about his life and legacy. By making an audio tribute.
I originally wanted to post this thread on the day I heard about his passing, but my selfish old self chose not to make the thread until I had made a tributary song, that would be included in this post.
I understand that a number of Newgrounders here, may think that I'm beyond absolutely crazy to make such a thread, and perhaps I am, but I just know that for us musicians with Macs, if it wasn't for Steve Jobs choice to make the transition to Intel, we'd never have Bootcamp, or even know how good FL Studio/Mixcraft/other Windows only DAWs users had it (or not, :D).
In his heart I think he somehow actually wanted to unite PC and Mac users, though he might not have publicly shown it (I don't know).
Just know, that this thread is specifically dedicated to what he'd given us musicians, let alone technology consumers, to work with. Without the hardware, the software would have nothing to drive it, and vice-versa!
So I'm now finishing this post with an audio tribute, I made, in almost a weeks worth of time (did about a minute per day):
-
The Apple of Our Eyes <-(FTA)> by FaeryTaleAdventurerClick to listen.
- Score
- 2.00 / 5.00

Note: I'm not trying to have anyone feel obligated to submit something here, but if you would like to maka tribute, please make sure in its title that it relates to Steve Jobs or Apple itself. That is all
If this type of thread is against the rules.....I really don't want to finish that sentence.
See you on the other side, Steve. You will be missed, and remembered.
You know, I thought about the same thing today, after learning of Steve Jobs' passing.
What impact would Miyamoto's departure from life have on the gaming world? He, along with people like former president Hiroshi Yamauchi, the late great big N innovator Gunpei Yokoi, and game music mogul Koji Kondo, helped shape a more stable experience of what quality gaming should be like.
His "upend-the-tea-table" development tactics seemed to have really paid off over these years, not to say everything produced under his name was a godsend, but he has been a real inspiration for everyone in the gaming world.
I would personally miss him, and what he's offered, for sure.
consider the source...it's over.

^ZOMG THIS!^
As for my uname, it may have to be released in the States under a different name (like the whole Resident Evil-here-Biohazard-everywhere-else thing), as the developers of The Faery Tale Adventure, may still claim rights to the name. If they're actually the people behind the flick, though, then that's cool.
My uname however will put a hurting on the "competition" that would've existed if they decided to go with "Adventure" instead of "Adventurer".
With "Adventure" I think both female and male (including gays, mind you PB) alike would be equally dissapointed, as that was about three MEN who were BROTHERS that....wait for it.....NEVER MEET EACH OTHER in the entire game!
I never actually played the game, but I'd totally keep my uname, and wonder which character (if they decide to pick one from the game) was chosen to be the lovely lady's knight in shining armor /cliche; It'd be a real thrill for me to see if the character has to confront the Necromancer, that I've heard was the final boss, again.
I guess if you have a knack for [stereotypically European] medieval times, watch it! I just hope it doesn't tick off any gamers that played the series (there were two games).
(that includes MINE!)

Never enjoyed seeing the option of going "the easy way out" by just creating an account on any site with your FaceBook info.
Thankfully I never opted to choose that option, unless it was non-adult of course, but even then rarely, as I actually feared that something like this could happen.
Quick-fix for those in this scenario?:
ELIMINATE YOUR ACCOUNTS ON THE ADULT SITES YOU CHOSE TO USE YOUR FACEBOOK INFORMATION TO MAKE AN ACCOUNT WITH! And if you really like that site, USE REGULAR SIGN-UP INFORMATION NEXT TIME!
thank you, and God bless.
lost an entire page of posts
Anyone notice that here? Ah well, Chronamut's day's long gone anyway.
Heckuva lotta spam for there to be a whole page worth gone (or was it 2?)!
If you have a Twitter account, search the title, and stay informed (and Tweet about it, even!). This may not be a big deal to the mainstream [TV] media, but the Internet is on the case about this.
It is now reported that 700 have been arrested in total in the protest in NYC, known as Occupy Wall Street.
This is a grand revolution, and if you're an advocate for true freedom and justice, follow OccupyWallStreet wherever you can. Corporations should not have control over our elections/politics or how we live for that matter. Fight on!
Hey, Chrones! (no pun intended)
You're being summoned to the General forum!

It did, EoD696, it did. Thank you for your thorough response to my main inquiry(ies).
To be more simplistic, as SBB suggests, I really wondered if Mac and Windows users, given this intel, may have complained about sound levels, in having to significantly change the volume on their computer when they listen from song to song on the audio portal (we're not all 1:1 you know).
Yes, I do like to keep my volume settings maxed, yet at the same time, maybe its just my computer, but I personally (starting to go a bit off topic here, perhaps) have felt a bit irritated having to go from the Mac side to Windows, if I wanted to share something I found interesting with my friends and whatnot, because the volume is "stronger" on the Windows side. If there is indeed a driver out there, that could put my Mac side on a much more familiar playing field as my Windows side, I'm all for it!

At 10/1/11 12:06 PM, SBB wrote: I'm sorry but what in the name of the lord are you talking about. What is "wave"?
Wave is a feature in Windows' volume control panel (double-click) the volume icon on the Windows taskbar, and wave will be the 2nd control from the left (between master volume and SW synth).
By now some have already noted that I own a Mac with Bootcamp. Because of that fact, I can run both Mac and Windows on it.
After reading numerous threads on headphones and mixing/mastering quality, there's something that's been on my mind for some time: the "wave" feature setting.
Mac's sound control lacks this feature as far as I know, but with Sigma Tel Audio's wave feature, it looks like the scale of the master volume can be altered; for example in my Sea of Separation song, the Mac's audio has to cranked up to 4 notches before you can hear the first note, despite (because it starts with a fade-in), whereas in Windows (given you have wave all the way up), you can hear the first notes played at the very first notch
I think it's a factor for people, who may own a Mac and say that the song sounds to soft, or in Windows some people may say the song's too loud (be it "soft" classical or "hard" electronica). What is your take on wave? Is it significant? Is there a proper setting for it (you can't hear anything if it's set all the way down).
Note: this measurement of sound was taken with headphones on.
