Addressing the whole meritocracy thing:
-You can't have it that you don't benefit from past generations. It would remove an entire set of motivations (working for the sake of your children) and leave only the most selfish people to get involved in risky business (high stakes corporate jobs).
-Of course no meritocracy is essentially financial monarchy and I don't have to explain why that's bad.
compromise: I think it would be great if America had a giant 18 year tax for all citizens born in USA or lived here for at least 10-15 years of their childhood (to be flexible). When you reach 18, the government takes that money and pays for your college fee, if you choose not to go to college, your family gets all the money back so you or your family can spend it however you want. This way, everyone can afford to go to college. This might piss off some rich people who have to pay a bit more to support the rest but America would be so much more competitive in the global scene if the entire country got guaranteed college education.
Of course it's all an ideal and it would be near-impossible to implement -________-
I'd just like to see fewer ignorant people roaming the earth haha xD

Capital punishment with a little twist? Just wondering whether it would be feasible if it could be implemented on a large scale and efficiently.
First of all, if you don't like anime don't be bashing on this topic, it's not a topic about anime/manga.
I thought of a few issues while reading this manga
Death Note (%u30C7%u30B9%u30CE%u30FC%u30C8, Desu N%u014Dto?) is a Japanese manga series originally written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The series primarily centers around a high school student who decides to rid the world of evil with the help of a supernatural notebook that kills anyone whose name is written in it.

I was just considering, what if governments gained custody of the death note. Surely they'd use it for war, like a weapon of mass destruction. Then if two death notes existed, it could in theory result in a 2nd cold war.
-What would the government use it for if the world was all one country though? Would it be organized into the legal system?
-Would it be beneficial to society if there was some sort of organization for mass instantaneous capital punishment?
-Would this keep crime down and promote a healthy lifestyle or would this simply create further mistrust in government and a general breakdown in society?
-Is it worth a few innocents in order to indefinitely punish scum?
-And of course, can the human race ever come into a consensus on what is just?
((btw I highly recommend this anime as an intelligent thriller))
rofl so much DevArt bashing XD
I think the guys before have some sort of a point though, it's much much much much more "positive" in terms of critique compared to NG where people spam junk like "crap crap crap crap crap don't work harder just quit you loser" heheh
as for the animating I'd probrably join in the contest if it were more open ended. Not too open ended where I'd have to sit in bed thinking up what to do but open ended enough so I can make it how I want ^_^
(oh and if you wanna pay me a visit my DevArt is http://aixrotciv.deviantart.com/
There were WMDs, but don't worry Saddam was using them on his own people, not us
lol the UN's power is skewed
Note the name: United Nations, it's all the nations united but not all nations are equal so obviously some nations are more powerful than others. And because it's all the nations jumbled there can almost never be an agreement and it leads to bureaucratic inefficiency
Democracy- If democracy is so great it fixes itself and spreads itself. You can't force democracy on others, or make other countries become democratic. Don't you all see the hypocracy of such an action? Forcing (deciding for someone else where they don't have a say) a person to become Free (having the liberty to make your own decisions)
Wait why is this "liberal myths". @_@
I think you should call this "Opinions I Don't Agree With"
I don't know a lot about this topic but I do know the power of Japanese nationalism. Even till this day they won't even admit to the atrocities they did to China during WWII, that's how proud they are even 60 years later. If USA invaded the island there would've been one hell of a body count on both sides.
I'm against people who think there's equality in this world (because it's never true)
I'm against people who try to impede the oppurtunities of others
I'm against people who use their own heritage as an excuse to recieve pity or compensation
I'm against people who try to impeded upon other's freedom of speech with "politically correct" words
I'm conflicted ^_^
lol poor guy (meaning your friend). I hope he gets well soon.
hooray for non-voters! (like my mom) we have opinions about each candidate, we just don't agree with either of em :P
He could be dead for all I care. Catching him won't do much for us at this point. It might give the troops and bit of a morale boost and give Bush a +2% in his approval ratings but other than that it won't stop terrorism. It won't stop Iran's nuclear weapons program. I won't stop religious fanatics. I won't stop muslims from hating jews. We can take Osama and rip him into 10000 pieces and scatter him on the moon but his spirit lives on in every single anti-Westerner terrorist in mid-east.
I don't keep up with canadian politics, what's happening?
(too much mid-term BS 4 tests a week X_X)
Morals= unwritten human laws that are established to end or at least slow down unecissary barbaric violence towards one another. (my definition) Most well-known moralists are probrably Jesus(respect each other and love god), Moses(respect each other and love god), Confucious(respect each other and love your family) (you get the idea)
Morals are there for a reason. To simply keep us safe from one another. But some morals go further and are more complicated because different people have DIFFERENT morals (such a pain). This creates arguements over who's morals are correct and whose are wrong. Then people start forming groups based on these two conflicting morals and then the meaningless debate begins. I say just stop it, it's not worth arguing over. Morals are just there to make sure we're not stabbing each other's children. Arguing over gay marriage and abortion is futile. Wasting your time and your energy, go do something productive. Like reading a book or exercising
so worked up over a government. As long as I'm happy I don't care, I'm a true selfist XD. Make money, work hard, care for my friends n family, care for no one else. As long as I'm fed, I have a television, and I have people to keep me company, I won't complain about the government. :P
But please don't see me as an ignorant bastard who lives in a box. I watch news and understand our government inside and out. There's flaws I admit (my mom being an immigration lawyer tells me about em all the time) but everything in this world has flaws. The way I see it the positives outweigh the negatives so I think the gov. is fine. I mean if the gov. is still keeping you alive enough to complain about it on web forums then it's doing a decent job.
Absolute Democracy= anarchy
Absolute Power= tyranny
Perfect Balance between the two= will never exist
because? perfection doesn't exist, no such thing. I personally think the constitution was well written and provides just enough flexibility for change and democracy but still makes things strict so that corrupt officials can't abuse their power and twist the law to their own advantage (though it has happened, but hey it's not perfect).
ok evolution is a T H E O R Y
we don't know how life got started? it's just an educated guess! So why not teach it. We don't know if Machiavelli is right or not, many people think his ideals of ruthlessness and real politik are evil, but that doesn't stop us from teaching what he thought. So why are we banning evolution? It's just what Darwin thought. We're not forcing children to believe in evolution, but they should at least know that the theory of evolution exists. People are so stupid nowadays.
I treat girls with respect because I was raised that way and it's hard to break from something that was deeply integrated into your thinking.
But the thing I hate most was 3rd-5th grade when the girls would constantly bully the boys and the boys weren't allowed to hit them while they were blamed for everything. And when a boy actually gets the guts to fight back the girl would just cry and he would get the detention. Such injustice! but it all ended with puberty ;D

With china growing faster and faster due to the "walmart effect" would it be safe to assume that pretty soon they may decide there economy needs japan and they will try to take it? With all that america is still left in the charge of being responsable for japans safety and military. What are the chances that our own lust for cheap goods could accidently send us into war?
WOW. I have to absorb the stupidity of this... Wait... ok I'm done. This is the dumbest thing I've heard. Sure China's a rising power and their military is strengthening. But before they even think about Japan they have to finish off Taiwan. They seperated from China and are hiding under the curtain of American support. Japan has nothing to do with it! American ties with Taiwan are more likely to send USA and China into a war than anything else. Lust for cheap goods? Forget that if a war breaks out USA can easily become self-sufficient. We have loads of mexicans and people out of jobs, if a war breaks out the factorys of america will re-open and we will make our own shit. And China's not stupid enough to mess with their trade partners. If China declares war on USA or USA's allies (Japan, Britain, France, etc.) then the entire Chinese economy will collapse because most of their economy depends on foreign investments. I could probrably type 5 more paragraphs about this but you get the picture. bottom line is JAPAN is largely irrelevant, Taiwan is the main problem, and economics are more complicated than you think.
There are different ways of calculating worst. There can be wars that did not have a just cause, there are wars the effected the people of the world most negatively, there are wars that were started based on a shitty reason (Troy). Then there are also wars that effected the most people. If u want the war that gained the most casualties and effected the lives of the most people of any war, then of course it's the World Wars. But there are many other wars that have been just as bad in their own way, such as the crusades and the wars against native americans carried out by Europeans.
CANNIBALISM
if all the smart and well-to-do people go around eating all the retarded annoying asshole homeless people, not only will overpopulation be solved, world hunger will be cured as well! less people = more oportunities for everyone else.
Alternative #2: DO WHAT THE CHINESE DO (more highly suggested than cannibalism)
one child per family law creates a slow and steady decline of population. It's much slower than chewing on some homeless guy's eyeball, but hell it works!
fireworks don't hurt people, people hurt people. This is the same shit about guns. If a person can be smart enough to have enough self control to NOT SHOOT SOMEONE, we won't have gun problems. If there are people going around shooting each other then that means the PEOPLE ARE UNHAPPY OR DISCONTENT, not because there are too many guns. All banning fireworks does is making people less content. It makes them go out and buy a gun and shoot people because they're bored out of their friggin mind!
FIREWORKS ALL THE WAY!
MICHAEL JACKSON ALL DA WAY BABY
(no im just kidding)
I think we should elect Howard Dean, cuz he's the only democrat brave enough to say what's on his mind no matter what others say.
USA can gain 50% more resources if we invade Mexico and Canada. And it's probrably going to be an easy victory cuz Canada has 1/10 of usa's military. Mexico has more men but they're probrably poorly equiped or poorly trained. ANNEX THE FUCKERS.
tell your parents not to vote for him next time. Not that it matters his approval rating is way under 40% anyways.
NO! arnold will not become governor again because he won with his movies, popularity, and funny accent. Once people realize that he is not capable they'll just get rid of him anyways. It's how californians are, vote for the shallow popular guy then realize their mistake and vote for another shallow popular guy.
Holy Shit!
Battle of the century!: AltaneseMIstress VS. TheMartyr
anyways it's just something I noticed, please continue ^_^
this has been popping up recently and I think i have to address it.
People say that video games are becoming excessively violent and some should be banned for promoting violence against policemen and the government in general. I find this distressing because the claim that violence promotes crime is ludicrous in my opinion. They base this claim on a few teens who happened to go on shooting sprees. I play GTA almost constantly, in 2 player mode I mow down police officers with my friends just to watch backup idiotically scramble to try and stop us. But I know better than to actually GET a gun and go outside shooting seemingly random police officers!
All banning violent video games will do is crushing the gaming culture. I can say with confidence that more than half the video games out on the market contain violence. Whether it be mild violence (mario punching kirby in Smash Bros.) or hardcore violence (Vercetti chainsawing a grandma in GTA). The point is most games revolve around some form of violence. And banning violence won't stop insane children from shooting each other. We're human, we're animals, it's what we do. Plus most violence is brought forth by personal disputes, family problems, and internal troubles. I doubt anyone has played CS and decided to go join the army to shoot up terrorists. No one's that dumb! And the ones who ARE that dumb end up on the news and become perfect examples of why violent video games should be banned. This country's crackdown on freedom of expression is such bullshit!
It's true that you can't prove gravity exists. But there is definitely a force keeping everythiing intact. Or else we'd all be randomly floating objects. What makes planets revolve around stars? What makes electrons revolve around protons? And if you just give up thinking about these questions and say "god did it" then you're just taking the easy way out.

dude you have serious anger problems. You can't hate the USA because they're ignorant. Those who hold power are always ignorant of those who have little power. Look at English Monarchs in the medieval period. Most of them didn't give a rat's ass about the common folk, because the common folk have no power. It's only natural that people in USA are grossly ignorant of others. The only way to cure the ignorance is to kick america's ass.
whipe out the USA??? why bother. All great empires fall some day. Nothing lasts forever, and you can't prove anything lasts forever. Because no one LIVES forever, further proving that nothing lasts forever.
So why should the world expend it's resources and time doing something that doesn't need to be done? Tis a waste. Just let USA reach it's pique and fall in a downward spiral like all empires. The time will come for USA to fall. Don't try to rush things, only further bloodshed will come out of haste.
