I never expect people to review my stuff back because it might be biased depending if you gave a good or a bad review that's why I don't really like the "review and ill repay the favour" etc. in a perfect world people would review just to share knowledge but we all know the world isn't perfect, far from it :D

Maybe it would be better to say: "man, you should try to do this..." , instead of saying: " this sucks / that line is bad, etc..."
It's important to understand too if the guy is serious about his music or if is doing music just for fun. I think that this afects the kind of review that we are writing.
And usually its easy to understand if a guy is serious or not about his music judging by the quality of his sound...

I have to disagree with you here. Many of my friends are either musicians in band or just hobbyists and the quality ranges greatly. My drummer would just write weird electronic-y songs just for fun and the quality was great although they were short, and then my other friend wanted to get into covers and the like and his sound wasn't very good. That's just my experience of course and I always find it hard if someone slapped something together in 15 minutes for fun but is skilled (or got lucky) or if someone spent a few nights but is only starting.

This is starting to be annoying, cuz everytime i check the audio forum there's always someone complaining about this issue.
It's true that this system it's not the ideal one, it's true that some reviews are shitty, and i don't even want to talk about the rating system...
It's important to write reviews, it's important to help newbies with good reviews.
I'm not saying that it's easy to write a good review (specially when we may lack experience and knowledge about music / music production) but at least it's not difficult to point something good and something bad in a song as EvilJellyMan990 says.
This kind of simple and direct review helps as much as a pro review. At least it helped me a lot when i started posting my first songs at newgrounds.
I believe that we need to have some delicacy when reviewing newbie songs too.
EvilJellyMan990's your last review man...Ouch! you shaked that poor guy's world.
You shouldn't be so rough because your music's not so great. (Personal opinion, based in taste...)
Anyways, it's important to make reviews!
We need to spread this habit somehow!

And i like turtles too...
Cheers guys!

Yeah i felt kinda sorry about that review :( I actually pm'ed the guy apologizing for it lol (was a little angry at the time) You were spot on about the "you're music is not so great" I totally agree with you there. That is the one thing that i think stops people from pointing out faults in other people's work. Everywhere you go on the internet there are some very sensitive people and most of the time (in this case) the reviewer doesn't want to hurt them. Its easier to assume that someone is bad at taking criticism than otherwise. Thank you for your opinion

There is a form that talks about this very subject here http Let's talk about audio reviews

Yes constructive reviews are pretty rare from what I've seen. I try my best to help out the musician even if I despised what they posted. I feel that getting a reply from the guy (or gal) who posted is really cool and rewarding

Its usually a shitload of hard to explain small things that makes ones music suck. So rather then typing out a gigantic review, I click a number that rates the song out of 5. Fun how that works eh?

Yeah i get you but it still leaves the writer hanging usually without a clue on what to do and to that guy anything would be better than 3 stars

Checking out new songs sometimes makes cry a little inside, there are some songs, which maybe aren't the next Fur Elise etc. but are decent. They get a bunch of views and a rating but poof no review. Are members of the Audio Portal that lazy? it doesn't take that much effort to write a few words if you liked the song and I don't mean "cool song" that's not a review but point out one thing that you liked and one thing that you didn't. Simple as that. It gets even worse if the person didn't like the song. Sometimes when I upload a song I am waiting, excited for the first rating, review anything. Some of you probably guessed what happens its gets something like 1-3 stars. I wouldn't mind something like that happening if I wasn't left wandering what did I do wrong. And I know that im not the only one experiencing this. I for one never rate anything poorly without stating why and what could have been improved.
Unfortunately I haven't seen much people posting full, quality reviews on the not-the-best songs and those are the songs that need them the most. So that's my rant over, I'd like to hear you're guys opinions on this topic and maybe how to encourage people to post "helpful" reviews. Peace.

Hey all, I'm pretty new to posting on newgrounds but i wanted to ask for advice regarding electronic music. I am more of a metal person than anything else but I love writing electronic music (retro-y I guess) and i want to start listening to it to improve my writing/creating/mixing skills. I LOVED the soundtrack to Hotline Miami (M.O.ON <3) and Zweihander by Logan from TekSyndicate. However I feel that i need to have a bigger variety (I NEED MOAR). Any suggestions are welcome :D
